Whether you opt for '70s-inspired silk tassels or boho macramé, fringing is in and there's no denying it. Tipped to be a huge interiors trend for the coming seasons, this little detail pays homage to luxury vintage pads and cute beach houses alike.

The trick with fringe is not to overdo it. Artfully selecting a range of textured pieces can really boost a room's appeal and lend it a cool, eclectic edge but there are a few rules to follow.

Firstly, stick to a simple palette. Ensure your fringed pieces work as accents to the room and avoid massive colour clashes.

Secondly, less is more so opt for a fringed wall hanging, a few tactile fringed cushions or a textural rug but avoid going for all three in the same room.

Lastly, stick to a single look in each room. Love pink silk fringe? Work it with simple marble, copper and deep navy velvet. Into rustic artwork in neutral tones? Use it to offset a darker wall colour and pair it with similar natural fabrics like linen.

It’s no secret that in the world of interiors maximalism is set to be huge for FW18 and well into the New Year. We’ve bid farewell to minimalist Scandi style and settled our sights firmly on a more eclectic, cozier set of trends for the seasons ahead.

You can interpret the maximalist trend in plenty of ways but one of our favourite iterations of the trend has to be the luxe rock’n’roll look. Think dark and vibrant tones with flashes of color, print and texture thrown in.

Animal prints, gallery walls, plush velvet and nods to your favourite artists are all encouraged as are hints of gold and silver to add depth against tonal black, grey and deep-blue walls.

The perfect mix of glam styling and home comforts, try mixing and matching your artworks and accessories and always mix vintage with contemporary designs for a considered yet relaxed vibe.

The maximalist home décor trend isn’t going anywhere so we’ve created an edit of the best pieces to help infuse your space with the spirit of rock’n’roll…

2018 has been a huge year for trends - we've seen so many come and go and while we've been avid fans of some, others left us shaking our heads in bewilderment and disbelief.

Whether you're a fearless experimentalist or prefer to play it safe, there will always be a handful of fall trends that return year after year and boy, do we love to rely on them...

The brown leather tote

Everyone and their grandmother owns a brown leather tote. It's a fall staple and an enduringly cool and reliable piece. Whether you opt for a classic shopper or a more directional silhouette, a mini or an oversized style, this baby complements anything and everything.

A pair of statement earrings

Costume jewelry trends come and go but a go-to pair of oversized earrings is always a winner. Play with this season's resin and beading trends or keep things classic with statement gold hoops or a structural silver design.

Something velvet

Velvet and fall are a match made in sartorial heaven. Luxe, lustrous and the perfect way to jazz up your day-to-night look, opt for something in bright gem tones a lá the Gucci gang.

Something in animal print

Every year we hang up our spots and stripes for summer and get excited when fall hits and it's time to rock them again. Faux-fur coats are always equal parts edgy and elegant and who doesn't love a statement print?

Something studded

In fall it's entirely permissible to channel your inner goth and studded accessories are a must. Think embellished bags and studded western-style boots. Or if you're not prepared to revisit the fashion faux pas of your youth, toughen up your look with a pair of iconic Rockstuds by Valentino.

When it comes to injecting your home with color, purple probably isn’t the most obvious choice. But ever since Pantone announced Ultra Violet as the color of the year, the shade has been popping up on Pinterest and Instagram more than ever.

Described as a blue-based purple, Ultra Violet is associated with iconic musicians such as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, and this particular shade has always had a mystical or spiritual quality.

It's also a deeply calming hue. Purple-toned lighting is often used in meditation spaces, so it’s the perfect color to work into your everyday living space.

If you’re looking to add subtle hints of Ultra Violet, try cushions, candles and coffee table books throughout the room. Bed linen is also an easy way to try the trend – break up the color with pillows in different tones.

Incorporate the color in your kitchen by teaming purple chairs with a natural wood table, or invest in a single armchair in plush velvet – it will look great with gold and marble finishes.

Ready to shop for the new season but overwhelmed by all the trends? Don’t worry – we’ve rounded up the best looks from London Fashion Week, along with our favourite AW18 pieces.
Modern military

It’s not unusual for military pieces to appear on the AW runway, but Belstaff’s collection was a fresh take on the trend. We loved the printed hoodies worn with double-breasted coats and zipped cargo pants.

Reworked classics

For AW18, Burberry gave its iconic pieces a contemporary update: see the oversized trench coats, rainbow logo-embroidered sweatshirts and checked baseball caps.

Tonal tailoring

Loved for its pared-back minimalism, Joseph’s autumn collection did not disappoint. A standout look consisted of clean brown tailoring worn with a sharp camel coat.

Utility cool

JW Anderson’s show combined menswear and womenswear, but each had an effortless utilitarian feel. We predict the graphic knit sweaters and relaxed khaki pants will be an instant hit.

Industrial outerwear

Not only were the coats and jackets at Christopher Raeburn incredibly cool, they were also constructed from recycled materials. Look out for the checked wool pieces made from Russian navy blankets.

Asymmetric shapes

Chalayan’s deconstructed designs made ordinary wardrobe staples feel completely unique – check out the cut-out trousers and cleverly folded coats in the line-up.

Heritage checks

You can always count on Margaret Howell to deliver timeless pieces that will transcend seasons – for example, the checked shirts and Prince of Wales tailoring seen on the runway.

Retro refresh

‘70s references could be spotted throughout Oliver Spencer’s show, but in the most understated way: see the corduroy and velvet trousers and shearling jackets.

Sports luxe

Sportswear has become a fixture on the runway, and it’s not going anywhere fast. Band of Outsiders mixed retro tracksuits with smart tailoring for a fresh take on the trend.

Go graphic

Bold logo prints are still dominating the street style circuit, and it looks like they’re sticking around for another season. Cottweiler’s final look was an oversized T-shirt embroidered with the Natural History Museum’s name – also the location of the label's show.

When you imagine the impossibly luxe decor of your dream home, there are no doubt a few brands that spring to mind. We all have our favourites for luxurious linen, sleek furniture and unique artworks for that gallery wall but when you’re on a budget, it’s not always easy to get the look you’re dreaming of…

We all know that Groupon makes it easy to enjoy huge discounts on activities all over the world, but did you know that Groupon also offers next-level discounts on homewares, furniture and accessories? The perfect brand to shop with if your home improvement fund’s tight, Groupon is our go-to for making a space look high-end on a budget.

We looked to our panel of experts for four fail-safe tips to help you transform your space and put together a selection of our Editors’ favourite pieces direct from Groupon, perfect for elevating any room in your home.

Trick of the light

Keep things light and bright to create a greater sense of space. With pale greys and whites in the mix, you’ll have a fresh foundation to build on. Add mirrors to increase the depth of the room and reflect the natural light from your windows.

Colour theory

Choose a simple palette and stick to it. Like greens or pinks? Go for muted tones and mix them up with your simple white and grey walls and pieces of furniture. Next choose a luxe accent colour like copper or gold and pick out a few accessories in this tone.

Texture flex

The secret to making a room look more high end is to layer textures while retaining a minimalist look and feel. Do this with textural fabrics, woodgrain, rugs and cushions. You can also opt for tactile bed linens, one-off pieces in rich velvet and smooth metallic surfaces.

Add greenery

A well-placed plant can make a room and sometimes fresh flowers, a potted houseplant or a tropical tree can really elevate a space. Consider the colour palette in your room and opt for plants that will complement it or act as a neutral component in the room.

With cooler weather just around the corner it’s time to start thinking about layering up. Obviously we’re not talking winter coats just yet but a jacket is always a good idea.

We recommend embracing the sporty, laid-back looks dominating the runway of late and lending your fall-ready ensemble an edge with a varsity jacket, a classic bomber or a baseball-inspired style.

Rolled out by Gucci and Chanel with luxe sequinned twists and cool monogramming and adopted by affordable brands here, there and everywhere in satin, velvet and crepe iterations, a boxy jacket is a guaranteed wardrobe hero.

Browse our pick of the best for men and women – remember a piece like this always looks cool oversized and layered – and shop the edit below…

Cool, cool electric blue, that’s the colour of my room. Well, it can be if you know how to follow a few simple interior design rules. Blue is a difficult hue because it’s a bold and sometimes brooding tone that has the potential to dominate a space…

The trick with any shade of blue is to opt for statement blocks of colour rather than small accents – like you might with pinks and metallic tones.

First, find your preferred shade of blue. Teal is having a moment right now but of blue-green isn’t your thing, consider a luxe navy or a bright electric blue.

Then consider how you’re going to incorporate a blue block into your space. You can paint an accent wall – this is great to making any room look instantly more high-end but be sure to stick to a single wall as deep blues can make a small space look smaller.

If you’re not quite ready to crack out the paintbrushes, opt for a swathe of blue by way of a rug, a decadent velvet sofa or a boxy armchair. In the bedroom, blue headboards, throws and curtains are winners too.

The belt bag is one of those trends that shouldn’t work but really does. Those infamous styles by Gucci and Miu Miu dominated Instagram last year and put hands-free accessories back on the map…

The ‘90s feels quickly took over the street style game with designers including Versace, Pucci, JW Anderson and Marc Jacobs creating iterations of the fanny pack and soon enough, luxe-looking affordable options were out in force too.

We decided to road test both designer and affordable belt bags to find out whether a Gucci bag is really worth the investment, or whether it’s better to save…

SPEND

Belt bags are not going anywhere so this will be an investment you'll enjoy for many years to come. Whether it's winter, fall or in the middle of summer you know you can wear this bag with anything in closet. The versatility is strong with this one.

Furthermore, an investment piece from the likes of Gucci or Prada is always a good idea because these babies last forever. The quality of a designer handbag is what makes it so timeless.

Our final reason for loving the high-end options? They’re all a little different. A Gucci Marmot is a Gucci Marmot but there so many iterations to choose from. Opt for embellished styles, a touch or velvet or classic quilting to match your wardrobe and your personality. There’s just something so great about feeling original.

SAVE

No matter how amazing the product is, it’s great to have options. Plus, with this accessory fixed to your waist, other people are far less likely to notice its lack of designer logo. This is an excuse to double up and opt for a few different colors and styles.

Why choose one bag when you can invest in three or four? Go for a heart-shaped version for date night, a boxy style for the weekend and a cool embellished piece for festival season and your summer vacations.

Sure these pieces might not stand the test of time in the same way as a designer belt bag, but you can be certain you’ll have a style for every occasion and no one will be any the wiser.

There are a few age-old interior design tricks that always work, no matter what your home looks like or how spacious it is – see upping the cosiness factor in winter with twinkly lights or adding a little interest with a gallery wall. Changing up your space to suit a new season is easy, you just have to know a few of the golden rules…

One of the most important tricks is knowing just how powerful colour can be and knowing how to work a trend to your advantage. This season it’s all about yellow – sunshine tones, mustard hues, deep orangey palettes, yellow home decor is everywhere.

Now, we’re not saying you should rush in with the Dulux and paint all four walls yellow. On the contrary, if you want to work this bold tone in your space, you’ll need to be careful to balance it with the rest of your décor. The key here is using yellow as an accent colour. You can do this in three ways…

Opt for bright yellow accessories like candles, cushions and artworks to offset the rest of the room. A pop of colour will lend the space a cheerful, eclectic vibe.

Invest in a statement piece that will act as the only yellow focal point in the room. A velvet sofa, chair, a pair of yellow curtains or sunflower-toned doors, cabinets and shelves will draw the eye and pep up the room in no time.

Lastly, for something a little more permanent you can get creative with paint and paper. Invest in a cool roll of printed wallpaper from the likes of Cole & Son, Matthew Williamson or House of Hackney and bring the sunshine in on a feature wall or papered surface – this works especially well in the bedroom or bathroom.

Want to try the trend for yourself? Browse our gallery for inspiration and shop the edit below for our favourite yellow homewares and design-led pieces…
