The beauty industry offers up new products every day and increasingly, we’re seeing a trend for personalization. We’re now able to add boosters to existing products, custom mix our own foundation and day cream, fill out questionnaires about our lifestyle, or receive tailored recommendations according to our individual needs.

Even if you don't buy into filling out questionnaires or opt for DNA testing for your skin, you at least need to test a product before deciding whether it’s the best choice for you.

So how can you personalize your beauty routine? Well, there are a few ways to make a start…

Get a beauty box subscription

If you don’t fancy scouring the stores for a range of  different beauty products to try, you can simply subscribe to a monthly beauty box service. There are plenty to choose from and you can opt for plans that last three, six or even 12 months.

See an expert

Once you’ve found brands and products you love with the help of a subscription box, hit up the professionals that work for and with those products. Book in to see a skincare expert and make-up artists who know the products inside out and get their advice on what’s right for you.

Use an app

Tech is blowing up the beauty industry and there are already a ton of apps that make it easy to figure out which products are right for you. Search the app store and download anything from foundation shade simulators to skin scanners.

Benefit from a beauty routine that is designed for you by you without splashing your cash and discover our selection of the best affordable beauty subscription boxes now in the exclusive edit below...

When it comes to beauty products it's easy to get lured into buying the latest trend without ever knowing if it's for you. Many products end up forgotten at the bottom of the beauty drawer. At least, that was the story until beauty subscription boxes came along...

What are beauty subscription boxes?

Beauty subscription boxes are basically the perfect way to invest in and test out a range of items tailored  to your personal needs. A box full of goodies will be delivered to your door  each month and you’ll get to sample all new products and new trends without breaking the bank. Sounds pretty good, right? From lipsticks to body creams, nail polish to bath oils, you get to decide the best product for you after testing it out.

Each box is usually filled with five or six items from sample to full size. Some boxes come pre-filled while others you get to pick and choose what you'd like included. This means that you may be receiving full-sized products, but you don't have to drop a penny on items that you don't enjoy.

Are you ready to shake up your beauty routine and give these boxes a try? Browse our personal favourites from the exclusive edit below...

Tailoring is perfect for any occasion, as long as you know how to do it properly. We’ve put together a few tips on how to rock a tailored look and a helpful edit to ensure you can get the look, whatever your budget. With our help, sporting the right suit for your next event should be a breeze…

Layering

Although there's no formula per se, there are a few commandments you can easily follow to nail suiting. Generally, you’ ll want three pieces. Go for a shirt, blazer and a pair of light pants. With your key item in mind, play around with the rest of your outfit combining textures, hues and fabrics accordingly.

Pattern

Update your standard office look with a check jacket for smart-casual dressing at its finest. The finished look can be dialled up or down depending on your mood. Don't be afraid to try a mismatched fabric combo... It will lend your typical look an edge.

Casual

Reaching a fine equilibrium between a rigid suit and a slouchy weekend wardrobe is an art. Achieve come-as-you-are nonchalance by combining tailored pants with relaxed sweaters and sleek white sneakers.

Evening

If you can afford to, consult with a personal tailor for an expert fit. With the customised suit at hand, opt for a buttoned-down white crisp shirt and loafers. When it comes to fabric choice we say to go the extra mile and choose something luxe.

Having great style doesn’t necessarily mean you should be decked out head to toe in labels. In fact, women with great style rarely opt for conspicuous logos. Mixing high street and designer is an art and so is knowing when to splurge and when to save.

Looking amazing doesn’t cost the earth and our Editors are big fans of affordable brands, especially when they roll out a decent designer dupe or two. We asked them for their tips on how to elevate an outfit, the best designer pieces to invest in and how they make their line-ups look that little bit more polished…

Never underestimate the power of accessories

Can’t afford a designer handbag but can justify that silk scarf? Let’s not forget bag charms and clip-on shoulder straps by the likes of Coach, Fendi, Valentino and Prada. Maximalise your tote’s power to shine with a few high-end additions here and there.

The same goes for your outfit. Tie that silk scarf around your neck, rock a Chanel brooch on your high-street denim jacket and rock expensive jewellery with every look. Jewellery is one of the things worth investing in – you’ll never grow out of it and higher quality pieces will last forever. Plus, most styles are timeless.

Sunglasses are your best friend when trying to achieve that super-polished look and most frames look pretty high-end whether they’re marked with a logo or not.

Do look for convincing designer dupes

From Mango to Zara and even online exclusive brands like Chi Chi, a ton of affordable labels offer great designer dupes. So, if you can’t splash out on runway-fresh styles, rest assured you’ll be able to find a convincing imitation that suits your budget.

We love floral maxi dresses for summer days, chunky buckle belts for off duty, guipure lace for all our big events and cool boxy and boho bags; there are so to choose from this season and all at a pretty reasonable price point.

Buy clothes that fit – tailoring is everything

The most important thing to remember when trying to look chic is that you should be wearing your clothes, they shouldn’t be wearing you. The cut of an outfit makes all the difference so invest in pieces that fit you perfectly and get the ones you really care about tailored. Every woman should have at least one well-fitting jacket, dress and pair of trousers in her line-up.

Do you like the long line tailored blazers? These are my favourite, because I can wear them with a lot of clothes. These blazers are elegant, pretty and feminine. You can combine that with a skirt, jeans, an elegant short. These are perfect with high heels, sandals, sneakers, too. If you haven't got a long line blazer, get one now! Check my list out, you will find the perfect blazer for yourself. This blazer is a great choice for summer days, because this one replaces the coat.

Practicality seems to have been a winning trend for the past two seasons. Reaching a happy medium between comfort and elegance is not that much of a stretch and our feet thank us for it. Street style is no longer about stilettos; now the cool crowd is wearing trainers, brogues, loafers and mules –  a big relief if you ask us.

Sure, heels are great for parties but we must admit, we’ve been swapping our spike heels for chunky styles from designers like Gucci –  the perfect way to add a few inches without compromising on comfort.

When it comes to cool flats, why not opt for a pair of boho moccasins, or a classic brogue? Our personal favourites? Trainers with a chunky sole for extra height. Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo are proving the power of a well chosen flat for day and evening. Even Victoria Beckham – queen of the court shoe – has been spotted in spring brogues, sneakers and ballet flats.

How to wear flats and look cool?

Opt for an office-ready look by styling your flats with a tailored suit, a sleek leather backpack and a low bun.

Don a pair of embroidered slippers or embellished ballet pumps to put a fresh spin on your evening party dress.

Pastel power suits are the latest IT-trend to emerge from the streets. This unpredictable Miami Vice-inspired craze started during Fashion Month and quickly spread into our everyday wardrobes.

Pale greens, tender blues, dainty violets and sweet lemon are contesting traditional black and grey suits. Pastel hues, are taking over this spring both on the high street – think Mango and Zara but also the high end, with some incredible offerings from Tibi and Vetements.

How to wear a pastel suit?

Ice-cream chic tones can be paired with monochrome or clashed with other pastel shades in an array of styles; pinstripes, corduroy or knits, just take your pick.

A pastel suit also looks striking when styled with white accessories. Add a pair of white booties, an oversized white tote or a white jacket and elevate your mint power suit. Or why not go bolder and pair a lemon overcoat with a lilac suit and white sneakers.

Take Janette Madsen's Scandi-chic approach and mix tailored pastel pieces – imagine a lemon-yellow pants with a blush-pink sweater and blazer, pastel perfection.

Editor’s Tip: Don't be afraid to mix your pastel-hued wardrobe with shimmering metallics for a stand-out evening look.

Any fashionista worth her salt will know the name Emily Blunt but did you know? The actress made her stage debut back in 2001, five years before she appeared on our screens as Miranda Priestly's assistant in The Devil Wears Prada alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Emily Blunt's latest endeavour features her in the leading role in unsettling thriller A Quiet Place scripted by hubby and fellow actor John Krasinski. The film is a crossover between your typical bloodthirsty horror and a take on the fears of modern parenthood.

Emily Blunt's powerful performance gave us chills and has since been added to a long list of standout roles including appearances in Hollywood hits such as the Edge of TomorrowSicario, and Young Victoria. It seemed like all anyone could talk about was Paula Hawking's psychological thriller Girl on the Train in which Emily played Rachel Watson, and now the name of everyone’s lips is Mary Poppins – tipped to be the most exciting reboot of 2018.

As an actress that made a name starring in one of the most popular fashion flicks of all time, it comes as no surprise that we’re fascinated by her unique fashion sense. She's one to make a statement on the red carpet, by employing her sartorial savviness and opting to work with a wide range of designers. From choosing international names like Prada, Dior, Michael Kors and Elie Saab to rocking statement garments by British designers like Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and the late Alexander McQueen.

To emulate her evening look, opt for a long figure-hugging frock in a bold hue like crimson red or a metallic shade for full-on vintage flair. Complete your look with a pair of strappy heels, a sparkly clutch and a statement ring.

For daywear, adopt Emily's practical approach by pairing your black trousers with a simple pussy bow blouse and throwing on a tailored blazer. Add a pair of neutral pumps and statement jewellery to infuse your look with a touch of character.

Safari vibes are one of my favourite styles in fashion. The well tailored look of safari jackets combined with the flowy and soft fabric linen is truly spontaneous. As Summer is approaching, try this style with your mom jeans or denim skirts. It will give you the well structured look while giving you the breezy fabric you need for the warm weathers. Even though you’re not on a Safari, this jacket can give you the attitude of freedom and adventure! #safari #safarijacket #jacket #summer #trend #streetstyle #style #fashion

This outfit from the latest Victoria Beckham collection on NYFW it´s so chic. The coat looks so clean and well tailored and I really like how the pants have a touch of black right on the bottom to break what it could be an all-nude outfit. And the big sunglasses, Beckham signature. Makes the model look like a secret agent or spy. Definitely an awesome work appropriate look. The lust for velvet continues to capture our imagination with Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid sporting the trend that has pervaded the wardrobes of trendsetters and celebrities proving to be a red-carpet staple for Winter months - especially during Award season. From Amy Adams and Rita Ora in a lavish Tom Ford, Lady Gaga and Lily Donaldson in pure black and Nicole Kidman in a plunging velvet Armani Privé dress at this year’s BAFTAs.

Here’s why we’re still craving for that velvet touch.

Velvet massively took off in 2017 and is still going strong this season. This time the look is more elevated - less studio 54 and more uptown-chic. Think tailored suits, swinging dresses and grandiose skirts courtesy of Prada, Koche and Erdem.

You can go completely head to toe in sumptuous rolls of velvet, or select some velvet accessories for a touch of glamour: From quilted cross body bags to velvet embellished platforms, block heels and slingback shoes available both from designers like Prada and Rochas but also more affordable retailers like ASOS and Forever 21.

Velvet’s main characteristics are that elaborate look due to its complex and luxurious texture. However some hues on velvet can have an undesirable effect. When it comes to colour palette opt for shades of burgundy, teal, mustard, and crimson that dominate the Winter 2018 season.

Be the first to sport the velvet trend by selecting your favourite items from our exclusive edit below!
