Stripes are a classic, especially when it comes to menswear – think Riviera-inspired tees with simple shorts, long-sleeved Breton tops for easy looks with jeans and of course, the iconic pinstriped suit for a luxe twist on tailoring.

The humble stripe is a fail-safe option which is why the latest trend we’re seeing everywhere might just raise a few eyebrows…

Clashing stripes is the hottest look on Instagram right now with everyone from street style stars to celebs rocking the look. Hot off the SS18 runway, fine and chunky variegated lines are everywhere.

Now mixing stripes of different sizes and colors looks great but it’s easier said than done so we did a little of the work for you and put together an edit of ultra-cool pieces to mix and match.

Whether you’re heading to the office or stepping out for brunch, there’s a striped look here for every budget. Want to try the look for yourself? Shop our exclusive edit below…

Whether you're hitting the beach in an exotic location or just stopping by your local pool, looking your best is a must. So throw out the dad shorts, do away with those ill-fitting speedos and try these cool, casual swimwear trends for summer…

Tropical times

You can never go wrong with a tropical print but opting for the right style is essential with this trend. Opt for boxy styles that sit higher on the leg – too much excess fabric when paired with a print is never a good look. Go for blue and green shades to emphasize your tan and finish your look with a pair of mirrored sunglasses.

Riviera rules

Opt for a classic look with a pair of block-color swim shorts with subtle logo detailing at the leg or a contrasting drawcord. Pair them with a white polo-shirt, fedora hat and simple Ray Bans for an effortlessly cool Gallic-inspired vacation look.

‘80s statement

Infuse your summer swimwear line-up with a cool old-school aesthetic is by sporting stripes. Invest in a colourful design with a vertical stripe and add pared-down round sunnies for a vintage-inspired finish.

Playful print

Now’s your time to shine – whether you opt for a pineapple print, on-trend lobsters or a simple graphic design, a stylish print has the power to elevate your look to new heights. Opt for repeat patterns in modern silhouettes and avoid anything too long or loose – the secret to pulling off a print is tailoring. Pair with a neutral tee and you’re good to go. Now, which way to the beach?

It can be very easy to invest in your summer wardrobe at the last minute but in most cases, this will result in impulse buys you may regret later. We suggest taking the time to properly prep for the upcoming months and invest in a few items that will compliment your wardrobe. This month we’ve already witnessed an array of fresh new pieces that excite us and we’ve spotted  four major trends….

What are the key style trends for summer 2018?

Big statement hats

XXL hats are great for style and for UV protection. You've probably come across the iconic Jacquemus straw hat on Insta by now. The bigger the better is your main rule.

Basket bags

Wicker bags, baskets and woven accessories are here to stay. Try a white raffia style or a woven tote with an all-white ensemble and finish your look with a pair of  Camille Charriere's Mista pumps.

Rainbow stripes

Originally emerging as a winter trend, the rainbow stripe craze is set to brighten our summer holidays too. Invest in a few key pieces – from your bikini to your crop top –  and pair with white and black for on-point juxtaposition.

Fruity prints and patterns

Bright fruit-inspired prints work perfectly with a summer tan. This year opt for lemons or banana prints and embrace the sunshine.

Dressing up for Saint Patrick's Day is no easy feat. You could do something as easy as throwing on a few necklaces and a rainbow shirt, but it's difficult to feel chic in that apparel. This year we want to scrap everything that says Saint Patrick's Day holiday overboard and instead try something we could actually wear on any day of the year.

Here are a few of our favourite Saint Patricks Day Style Tips:

1. HAT ADDICTION

Since no Saint Patricks' Day celebration can evade the green hat, why not make it a fashionable one? Simply sport one of the season's favourites - the velvet beret- in a very fitting forest green hue. Now, you're ready to celebrate with elegance.

2. STRIPE ENVY

If you want to channel the party mood without looking like a green clown, go bananas for stripes. A unique blend of different sized stripes in green can infuse the right amount of celebratory mood. No need to go overboard.

3. GREEN NEUTRAL

If you feel hesitant about the deep greens why not go for a more natural shade? For example, try a neutral or khaki green hue and strategically organise the outfit around your main colour choice.

4. NEON GREEN

Go to the other side of the spectrum and opt for a neon shade of green which is a real head-turner. Don't go over-the-top, instead, add it in small details like your ankle boots or handbag.

5. MATCH IT

Stick to one shade of green and match it head-to-toe. Then, add a cool accessory like a leopard pair of heels or bag to spice up the outfit.

6. BLEND TRENDS

Throw on your perfect blanket scarf, or puffer jacket and give a fresh perspective to your basic Saint Patrick's Day green outfit. Add some athleisure for maximum effect. The combination of trend and celebratory items will result in a much more comprehensive outfit that you can wear anywhere.

7. ADD SOME TEXTURE

Experiment by adding some interesting materials that will give depth to your outfit like leather, velvet or corduroy. As a result, the look will be more relevant and less costumey.

A trend that seems incapable of going out of style, and one I doubt ever will be able to, is animal print. Be it a zebra top or some croc heels, it is the ultimate print and nothing can touch it. Not a polka dot or a stripe can come close to the empowerment or bold nature of the animal. Naturally I was ever excited to see it taming the runway this year. Tom Ford's take on leopard print was possibly my favourite in the herd. This red look is just insane. The trousers take me somewhere back to the nineties, paired with that classic low turtle neck and a larger than life coat nothing could strike down this outfit. I want it all. Image: Indigital

I'm having a moment with Chanel. Okay I am always having a moment with Chanel. This tweed suit is absolutely stunning. I love the fact that there is so much going on, particularly the structures, yet instead of drowning the model the tapering of the jacket pulls the tailoring together. The stripe down the leg is a trend I'm seeing everywhere at the moment and oh how perfect it looks on top of tweed. Chanel you get me every time. Image: Elle.com

We’ve got Scotland on the brain today because it’s Burns Night and it just so happens that the kilt is a key skirt shape for Spring Summer 2018. The former is a celebratory day in honour of Robert Burns, who’s regarded as Scotland’s national poet and the brains behind ‘A Red, Red Rose.’ Which is as good an excuse as any to indulge in a little haggis or a couple of hot toddies tonight. Take a look at the Balenciaga’s runaway show back in October. Iconic Scottish model Stella Tennant strutted out in an oversized stripe shirt, hybrid boot/leggings and the real star of her outfit? The tartan skirt in between, embellished with a silver charm belt. More polished than punk, even in Creative Director Demna Gvasalia’s progressive world.

The kilt is traditionally a menswear garment, made of a clan’s unique tartan, with a sporran (purse) on top and nothing underneath. But the skirt has understandably crossed over into womenswear with a few tweaks of its own and a rebellious attitude thanks to punks and grungers appropriating it. Now you can find a kilt in a range of fabrics, patterns and colours, and then you can pick your ideal length and placement of pleats/leather straps. Mini lengths do still bring Catholic school-girls to mind, but also cult ‘90s film Clueless; while midi lengths are look-at-me elegant. And with checks never really out of style, you’ll wear your kilt year after year.

Check out the gallery above for kilt styling inspiration and then shop your favourites from our edits of top picks below.

We’ve got to give it to Gap. Getting some of our favourite instagrammers to rock their rainbow stripe styles as part in their #12daysofcrazystripe campaign pre Christmas was a stroke of genius. Monica Ainley teamed her knit with white jeans and a khaki coat; @andfinally_ founders Anna Vitiello and Florrie Thomas’ cropped shots featured eye-catching jewellery and a beret; while the @belleandbunty girls wore theirs with mini skirts. Not only did the reinvigorated brand succeed in pushing rainbow stripes back on our radar with stellar styling inspiration, they also created this winter’s it pattern.

Sadly Gap’s crazy stripe styles are largely sold out but you’ll find that plenty of your favourite brands and retailers have been lining up to push this colourful trend forward. From trophy tops to dazzling dresses, standout shoes and even activewear and swimwear- there are so many ways to lift your cold weather wardrobe and your spirits. It’s worth noting that the description ‘rainbow’ has been used rather loosely to encompass all bold and kaleidoscopic multi-colour combinations. And despite that, these stripes are just as timeless as their classic Breton counterparts and surprisingly versatile too. Trust us.

Women have been wearing trousers for around a century. Largely due to increased responsibility after the war, we could finally take off our skirts. Feminism has been deemed one of the many words of the year this year on the back of #MeToo movement. I guess it comes as no surprise therefore that our trousers have got a little more powerful too. The side stripe is being thrown on luxe joggers and flares adding a little more structure to trousers. This look from #Topshop (image from their Instagram) is just to die for. Chic and fun and, well, powerful.

@gal_gadot on Instagram is killing it in this outfit. I'm not sure where she got these trousers from - I'd usually go to #Zara or #Mango for a piece like this. I love that she's made this totally casj with #Converse and a bomber jacket. Simple but effortlessly cool, the life of an Instagram girl.
