From modern Miami apartments to London’s art deco dens, metallics are back on our interiors radar for SS18. We love the precious metals trend and to be honest, we’re pleased it’s here to stay.

Filling your home with accessories that sparkle and shine can be tricky – you don’t want to go overboard and end up with Santa’s Grotto, nor do you want to go too low key and risk your luxe touches being overlooked.

We’ve put together a list of useful tips on how to work the metallic trend in your home – whatever your room size, taste or budget…

Mix your metals

More is more with precious metals so don’t be afraid to mix warm tones like coppers and yellow golds together. Similarly, cool colours like silver and white gold work wonders when paired in the same room.

A trick of the light

Elevate your shimmering additions by placing them near bright windows and cosy lamp-lit corners. This way, your metallic pieces will help to lend the room a wonderful sense of depth and texture. Copper-framed mirrors are great for this.

Perspective is everything

If you can’t quite commit to a copper coffee table, try grouping rose-gold accessories together to create the illusion of a larger presence in the room. If, on the other hand, you’re ready to go big, let your metallic furniture speak for itself and avoid crowding it with other metallic pieces.

Be yourself

You can find just about anything in gold, silver and copper tones so pick out pieces that reflect your personality and use our styling tips to lend your room a luxe touch.

It was just a year ago when Prada showcased seashell necklaces during Fashion week and we have to admit it's a very ambitious trend. Although other nautical-inspired themes have taken off it's difficult to take seashells seriously without making connotations with Australian soap operas.

However employed with the right outfit and the right style seashells work wonderfully and transition us to the new Spring/ Summer season. It's one of the biggest accessory trends of the season even though they might still carry some of that 2000s surfer vibe.

How to wear sea shell jewellery in 2018?

Avoid anything plastic and faux in colour or pattern. Instead look for delicate, and refined shells in gold or silver. There are a number of smaller brands that are driving this trend so don't be afraid to try them. Pair your accessories with boho-inspired dresses, striped tops, or simple white tees. The key is to keep a nautical, vacation inspired theme that will host your seashell accessories.

Editor's tip: For extra shine that lasts add a bit of naked nail polish on your accessory to prevent damage and tears.

Despite the fact that it is still forecast to snow it is nearly April which means I am ready to buy my spring wardrobe, literally come rain or shine. ASOS has always been my first go to along with the likes of Zara and Mango. As always I need a new bag and I've had my eye on this Aldo cross body bag for a while. I love the bold mix of colours and I think the text is really fun. Adding to basket. Image: ASOS

Living in as unpredictable a climate as we do in the UK, its hard to know how to dress for the weather. But one thing is for sure, the trench coat is an all year round winner when it comes to style! As far as cover ups go, the trench is excellent for rain or shine, layered in the winter or worn in the summer as a light cover up.

Perfect bridge between winter and spring, the trench coat is undoubtedly a fashion favourite and has been ever since it was invented in 1850. Aquascutum claim to have been the first fashion house to design the classic coat, followed by the famous Burberry trench when Thomas Burberry used garbadine fabric and designed it as an army raincoat.

This hardwearing raincoat has evolved into many different forms since the early 1900s. SS18 reinvented the classic transitional staple, when we thought we had seen it all. Layers, corsets, fringes, Céline, Christian Dior and Valentino amongst others proved that this must have was far from boring. From the classic beige garbadine coat to satin and leopard print, the evolution of the trench has exploded from corporate to casual. Shopcade has some excellent styles available, from a classic trench to a more rogue design.

With Spring finally here, there is no better time to invest in a trench. We are all looking for that back to sunshine uniform and the ideal coat for milder months ahead. Find your perfect trench coat below, dress it up or down and wear it day in and day out. It will remain a pillar of your wardrobe forever.

As spring inches in day by day, daffodil by daffodil, the weather gets a little lighter and a little brighter. It’s an exciting relief from the oppressive cold of winter, but poses new problems for our wardrobes, as the fluctuating temperatures of this transitional period have us choosing outfits in the morning sunshine which by lunchtime are shivering, inappropriate messes under afternoon cloud. The answer to this issue, however, is simple: layering. Now I don’t just mean adding a chunky-knit jumper to a minidress, but layering at base level - so perhaps add a jersey turtleneck under that dress. Wearing a striped long-sleeve tee under a short-sleeved block colour or graphic tee (very in right now) ensures that you’re covered for rain or shine, and protects against those pesky random goosebumps. Styling like this even works for night-out looks, like blogger Megan Ellaby’s above, as mesh tees provide a slightly dressier alternative without causing overheating in crowded bars. Try a shimmery, high-neck mesh top under a loose, black cami, or a band tee for a grungier vibe. Day to night, winter to spring, you’re covered for all occasions and seasons with a layered tee. The disco ball-esque dress was well loved over Christmas. It is a classic getup for the festive party season. Personally I hate to let go of the glitter as we bring in the new year - and I very rarely do. That's why I was overly excited as the Paco Rabanne models hit the runway. This look is beautiful. It oozes glitz in the large silver embellishments chained down the dress. The baby blue is perfect to offset this metallic shine. I also love that underneath the metal in a crisp shirt. It's much smarter than its costume yet they work so well together. The metal is a fusion of metal masculinity and feminine glamour, emphasised by the floral detailing on the shirt collar. The festivities continue. Image: Indigital

As Paris Fashion week unfolds, we have already spotted a few trends on the streets that have made us swoon, especially when they decidedly combine style with comfort. An evolution of the XXL scarf, the poncho is making a come back. Ponchos are amazing for layering and a great piece of transitional wear from winter to spring and vice versa.

A jacket may feel a bit confining with too many layers, and as we move through March we want to stock up on looser and more versatile options. That's why if you're tired of the blanket scarf you can change it up with a boho-inspired fringed poncho.

Look for inspiration at brands like Chloé, Burberry and Monse for a dramatic flair. Go for rainbow prints, Scandi patterns, oversized silhouettes and sequin embellishments like sparkly broaches. Try an all black poncho and let a few details shine through of your favourite knit or shirt (weather permitting) if classic is more of your calling.
