There’s something delightfully old-fashioned and grown-up about owning and using a diary. A physical book mind, not the calendar on your smart phone. They hark back to an analogue time and your grandparents and maybe parents probably still use one. You actually have to write out your appointments or innermost thoughts by hand rather than tapping on a lit screen. And this welcome respite from our digital age keeps you organised and your handwriting skills alive. Those 2,000 word essays you scribbled out in school exams seem so long ago don’t they?

We’re bringing this up now because there are some fantastic diaries and planners to help you achieve your goals and record your dreams in 2018. We’re talking beautifully embossed or minimal, wall planners or small enough to fit into your handbag, with self-motivational tips and poetry lines thrown in for good measure.

Come hangover or shine, we’ve found that the sunglasses we’re reaching for are getting smaller and cooler. And although all of the Le Specs x Adam Selman double-take frames are at the top of our wish list for their futuristic yet classic feel; we’ve fallen particularly hard for the ‘Last Lolita’ cat-eyes thanks to the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner, Rihanna et el filling our feed wearing them. Sharper and therefore more graphic than usual, they’ve styled them with everything from summer dresses to jeans and trackies so there’s no doubt any more that sunglasses are essential all year round and utterly dresscode proof. They’re perfect eye-shields for (phone) camera flashes too.

What sets these particular styles apart, though, are the covetable colourways. You can literally view the world through rose-tinted lenses, and black and white frames with dark glass are always glamorously retro. The millennial pink on pink is achingly on-trend, and the way a pop of blue, shot of red or a flash of silver can elevate an outfit is astounding. So how much do they cost? Much less than you were expecting for a designer collaboration of this quality. They’re all under £100 so stockpile them quick for stylish years ahead.

Wearing a warming hat, scarf and gloves come winter is a no brainer so why do we still deliberate over it? Maybe it’s remembering to put them with your coat or in your bag when you leave, or the effort of taking them off and putting them back on again on the tube (no-one wants to be sweaty). And it’s so annoying when you find you’ve lost a glove as that pair is done- you can’t really wear a single hand.

Despite this, the saying ’It’s better to be safe than sorry’ is particularly true when it comes to these winter accessories. With the weather all over the place, although it’s been freezing this week, you’re likely to end up shivering and cursing the cold later on without them. A hat will heat your head and there’s one to suit every size and face shape; while a scarf can double as a comfort blanket if big and wide enough. And you don’t have to take your gloves off to use your touchscreen phone anymore as gloves have been developed to allow that. Choosing a colour the complements your most worn coat is a good tip and, as they tend to be unisex too, you can swap and share yours with your loved ones.

Guy Fawkes day is upon us and with it the anticipation of a million sparkles in the sky (better get your KiraKira + app and document the fireworks and festivities this Sunday! The weather reports do warn that we may expect a bit of damp climate but fear not as we have rounded up the best items you can sport to take full advantage of bonfire night with your loved ones!

THE Hard-Wearing Coat

No matter how badly you want to resist it, there's no real escaping from the chilly weather. Expect standing in the cold for a few hours - meaning you'll need a warm comfy coat and possibly layering of a few knits. A parka might be the best idea as it's both rainrpoof and warm, just make sure you choose one with many pockets for gloves, scarves and phone storage.

THE Knit

On any other occasion a simple knit or top would have been sufficient. But bonfire night may mean you might have to stand on a roof top for a couple of a hours and then head back to a warm flat for the rest of the night. So, you need options. Wear a nice blouse that can stand on its own and top it with a chunky luxe knit. Accessories with a necklace that will make your casual outfit look more evening chic.

THE Bag

On Bonfire night comfort is key and a cute mini clutch is probably out of the question. Conversely, go for a cross body messenger bag that can hold all of your essentials or a cute black leather backpack that is both elegant and oh-so- practical.

THE Accessories

As formerly mentioned this Sunday will be cold and damp so go for funky warm gloves, a scarf and a hat that will keep you warm. If you want to elevate the elegant status then opt for a leather beret and leather gloves.

A Touch of Glamour!

Just because you'll have to brace a few hours of chilly weather doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself of any glam! Focus on accessories and makeup for the glam factor instead of clothing. Go for a fuschia lipstick and bold eyeliner and finish the look of with a range of bracelets and chic chandelier earrings. Voila! You're done!

These days, most of us sleep with our phones near us but this is really a habit we should get rid of.

Whether it’s because your phone is the last thing you check at night or the first thing you look at in the morning, or because you use it as an alarm or even as a torch when you wake up at night, research suggests you should stop doing so.

The first and obvious reason for this is that receiving messages and phone calls could wake you and disrupt your sleep rhythm, but it turns out that even putting your phone on silent can have negative effects on your sleep.

This is because mobile phones emit blue-light which can hinder the production of melatonin (the sleep-inducing hormone). It is mostly thought that this is happens because blue-light is similar to daylight, which leads our body to think it’s day time and therefore that we shouldn’t be sleeping.

But even if you switch your phone off entirely, excess exposure to the electromagnetic radiation given off by phones might lead to cancers and have negative effects on reproductive systems. The exact relationship is not yet clear, but one’s thing for sure: the more you can avoid exposing yourself to unnecessary radiation, the better!

So try turning your phone off tonight, and make sure you store it away outside your room! Sweet dreams…
