Makeup has the power to make us feel put-together and more beautiful than we already are, which is why we love it! But sometimes, even expensive cosmetics can't quite help us to get the effect we desire. These tips and tricks will help you get the most out of your makeup!

Use an opaque eyeshadow base for popping colours
Even the best eyeshadow won't perform to its fullest potential without a good base. For bright colours, use a white base. For deeper shades, use a black one. You need not go out and buy an expensive eyeshadow base either—simply use gel liner or kajal, and blend it out with a flat brush!

Baby powder = fluffier lashes
Add a little baby powder to your lashes between two coats of mascara to make your lashes look super plump!

Make any lipstick matte with translucent powder
Do you have a lipstick whose colour you love but hate that it's too creamy/glossy or doesn't last long enough? No worries. After you apply the lipstick, place a thin sheet of tissue paper on your lips, and put translucent powder over it on to your lips, using a fluffy powder brush.

Use tape to get the perfect winged liner
Winger liner can be hard no matter how good you are at makeup! But you never need to fret about your wings being uneven if you simply have some tape on hand. Simply apply it to the corners of your eyes carefully, and use the tape as a guideline for the perfect wing! Just remember to stick and unstick the tape a few times on the back of your hand before using it, so that it's not too sticky.

Festival season is right around the corner, with Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali coming right up. And that will closely be followed by wedding season!

So we figured, what better time to share our best makeup tips with you for these events? Here are some tips and tricks to help you look your best during festivals and weddings!

Pick a long-wearing foundation
Who wants to worry about their makeup melting off their face when there's so much running around to do? Pick a waterproof foundation that you know will last long. Our favourite is the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation and the L'Oréal Mat 12H Foundation.

Use waterproof mascara
Weddings can be emotional days, and the last thing you want is two black streaks down your face! Go for waterproof mascara. We love the L'Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara and the Faces Ultime Pro Gel Mascara.

Make sure to carry blotting paper and setting powder with you
Keep a pack of blotting papers or tissues in your bag to blot excess oil and sweat off your face. Doing this before going in with the powder will help to avoid your face getting cakey with too many touchups!

Go for a matte lipstick
Creamy lipsticks tend to fade away easily when you eat and drink throughout the day, so avoid them when you need your makeup to last long for a busy day of celebrating. Your best bet is a liquid lipstick or a matte lipstick. We love the matte lipsticks from MAC, and the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour.

Use a setting spray
These are underrated but super useful in keeping your makeup in place for hours longer than it would stay otherwise! We like the LA Girl Pro Setting Matte HD Spray a lot.

Coachella, Coachella, Coachella! Recently, we’ve been bombarded with news of this music festival everywhere.

Even though Coachella’s a music festival, what makes it so fun is seeing the uber cool looks on display. Here are same Coachella beauty and fashion and staples that’ll help you rock the music festival aesthetic effortlessly.

Sunscreen
The most basic but most important when you’re gonna be out in the sun! Make sure to choose a minimum of SPF 30 to protect your skin.

Bronzer and Highlighter
Who doesn't want to look like a glowing summer goddess in the sunshine? Make sure to bronze yourself for a sun-kissed look, and finish with a luminescent powder on the high points of your cheeks for a glow.

Matte lipstick
This one’s super important if you want your makeup to stay put all day long! Leave the creamy lip glosses aside, and go for a matte lipstick as it’ll last way longer through all the action.

Colourful prints
Printed maxis, asymmetrical skirts, tops, and scarves add to the festive mood!

Ankle boots
Combining comfort and style, black or earth-toned ankle boots are the perf choice for a music festival. Bonus points for cute embellishments and/or tassels!

Accessories
Coachella is not the place to be minimal, ladies! Layer necklaces, and stack several bracelets together. Head jewelry and body chains look super hot and on trend too. Make sure to stick to either silver or gold for a more put-together look!

Short Shorts
Of course, no summer music festival would be complete without short shorts in every colour and print imaginable!

Pucker up, it's time to pick a new lipstick for spring, but whose side are you on- team glossy or team matte?

Stuck on what to select? Here's the lowdown on the difference between the two to help you make your decision that little bit easier!

Matte lipsticks have a suede-like finish and the best ones tend to be both highly pigmented and moisturising. Matte lipsticks are notorious for drying out your lips, so the latter factor is a must-have for happy matte lips.

For best results with matte lipstick, exfoliating the lips beforehand is crucial, as this prevents the lipstick looking cracked.

Glossy lipsticks are designed to catch light, which means they tend to be shiny and give a lip-plumping effect. The best glossy lipsticks are ultra-hydrating and have a non-sticky formula.

While most glossy lipsticks tend to be sheer, you can now find deeply pigmented formulas as well, for bright pops of colour.

If neither of the finishes above sound quite right for you, there might be a solution in the new semi-matte trend. Brands are increasingly introducing semi-matte formulas that are not quite matte and not quite glossy.

These lipsticks tend to be highly moisturising but are pigmented and tend to be slightly more sheer than matte lipsticks but not as sheer as glossy formulas.

Heard enough? Then get inspired with our matte and glossy lipstick picks below!

Dressing for Christmas Day tends to depend on two main factors - what your plans are for Xmas Day and what fashion goodies you received from under the tree!

Whether going out for Christmas lunch or staying in, dressing down in casual chic is best for Xmas Day, leaving you free in the evening to rock a more dressed-up look.

To that effect, our top five tips for dressing on Christmas Day are:

1. A comfy but stylish (and sparkly!) Christmas jumper is perfect for a wintery Christmas Day.

2. If you’re in the mood for something more girly, try a simple dress paired with thick tights and boots.

3. Tone down your accessories, choosing a few key pieces to make a statement. We love the Rose Gold Swiss Ladies Watch by Rodania.

4. When it comes to make-up, why not opt for nude lips with winged eyeliner for a low-key look?

5. Don’t forget to top off your Christmas Day outfit with a stylish coat or jacket.
