One fashion week down, three to go. If New York Fashion Week felt a little bit under-the-radar this season, maybe it’s because designers largely eschewed fanfare for fanfare’s sake in favour of ultimately very wearable clothes for every type of women. From the Tom Ford’s glamazons and the modern minimalists at The Row to the arty sophisticates that Nanushka and Rosie Assoulin colourfully cater for, this sentiment was backed up by the diversity of the FROWs (Cardi B seated next Anna Wintour was one memorable moment) if not necessarily the models. Even the streetstyle set seemed less dramatic in their looks, turning to the tried-and-tested winning formula of a statement coat and bag, with jeans or skirts just seen, and boots (teeny-tiny sunglasses optional) as they paraded from show to show. Caroline Issa, Lisa Aiken and Susie Bubble pulled together some of the most notable. After sifting through countless runway pics, the five shows with the looks we’ll be adding to our wishlist and Pinterest boards pronto are below. In no particular order.

As none of these were ‘see now, buy now’, shop our edit of their current collections below! The collections mentioned are in the gallery above.

Frankly we could eat pancakes any day of the week, not just weekend brunch, so we’re super happy Pancake Day rolled round a little earlier this year. Traditionally known as Shrove Tuesday by Christians, the day before Lent (a period of abstinence that’s supposed to mirror the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert) starts on Ash Wednesday; using up all the good and luxury food products in your cupboard is the rough idea behind it. So eggs, milk and flour which create a basic pancake batter when mixed together.

Obviously things have gotten a lot more sophisticated since the first Pancake Day, whenever that was. You can now go gluten free, dairy free, and even add protein to meet your dietary needs without missing out. First decide whether you’d prefer a thin, French style crepe or the fluffier American kind, then go wild with toppings. What your favourite? Some just stick to a sprinkling of sugar, or a drizzle of lemon juice or a few dollops of jam. Others drown theirs in syrup (maple or golden), chocolate, berries and cream (sometimes all together) to really indulge their sweet tooth. The alternative is going savoury and swapping the above for cheese, vegetables and ham.

We’ve found a novel way to be two or even three faced this season via instagram: face earrings. Jewellers are moulding metals into graphic outlines of le visage, with or without features and stones, that dangle from the ear and pop against a background of hair in really lovely ways. It’s the next phase of statement earrings that Mango, and the #mangogirls by default, have taken up with gusto, as the arty accent feels progressive and sophisticated. Those with a designer budget can look to Celine and J.W.Anderson for more conceptual pairs that’ll be a little less ubiquitous. The latter’s blue pair, done in collaboration with the now default Style.com a few seasons ago, was spotted on Yasmin Sewell, Pandora Sykes and many a editor/streetstyle star.

We guess they’re popping up again now, mostly in gold, as an interesting alternative to the gold hoop. You can choose your art movement: cubism, surrealism, abstract etc and find a pair in line to add to your jewellery box. They’re the tasteful twist that makes any daytime outfit worthy of a second look or compliment and after dark they’ll steal the spotlight. Don’t shy away from coloured styles, as they’ll only increase the impact without compromising timelessness, or wearing them one at a time to stand out in a crowd of face earring wearers.

Find styling inspiration in the gallery above then shop your favourite pair(s) in our edit below.

Gifting chocolates and roses on Valentine’s day is standard. Something sweet for your sweetheart makes sense, although they may be less than impressed if they’re religiously watching their waistline. Ah well cheat day it is. Because if you’re lucky enough to be gifted a box of chocolates, it would be rude not to try any (and finish the box to eliminate any further temptation). Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with us. And isn’t it so lovely to receive a beautiful bouquet of red roses? Especially at work with an audience even though they're are unlikely to last more than a week. They’ll add a splash of colour and a lovely fragrance to your home, conjuring visions of springtime ahead.

Never fear, we’re here to help you flip the script if it all sounds a bit too cliché. Chocolate-wise, rather than buying a generic box last minute from a nearby supermarket; spend a little bit more for treats from a chocolatier and widen their horizons with an unusual flavour among their favourites. When choosing their flowers consider this: do they actually like roses? If they do or you don’t have much time, fine and consider adding different colours and species to jazz it up. But don’t add fuel to the ‘Valentine’s day is nothing more than a hallmark holiday’ brigade if you could get them a bunch of different flowers they’d prefer. Peonies are pretty popular.

New York Fashion Week starts today and will run until next Wednesday 14th February (aka Valentine’s Day) following the Men's collections held between the 5th and 8th of February. However, there are a host of changes, initiated last season when Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra and Thom Browne moved their presentations to Paris. Tome's Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo crossed over to the French capital as well, and even more, designers are shaking up the fashion system.

THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS

Tomas Maier is celebrating the opening of his Madison Avenue store and is visiting his Bottega Venetta show from Milan to New York for one season. Maier's move makes sense since the fresh air being infused into the collection abides by the city’s urban edge and youthful sensibility. Esteban Cortazar, the boy wonder from Paris and formerly creative director of Emanuel Ungaro, is moving his show from Paris to New York.

THE DEPARTURES

Ever since Alexander Wang announced that he's moving #WangFest to a June/December schedule, more designers have followed suit and evaded the conventional Fashion Calendar. Wand staged several street parties in September and will present his final show on the official schedule this Saturday before executing his plans. After filing for divorce from disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein, Marchesa's Georgina Chapman and her co-founder Keren Craig cancelled their runway show in favour of a more low-key event. Delpozo and Victoria Beckham are switching New York for London ( the former this season, the latter next), and there will be no Fenty x Puma show (making a Rihanna a little less likely). Others like Public School and Baja East have switched to a straight-to-consumer format, Burberry and Mansur Gavriel’s collections will be see-now-buy-now, while Rebecca Minkoff and Lela Rose have opted for Instagram shows instead of IRL ones.

FASHION WEEK MAINSTAYS

But one of NYFW’s biggest names Marc Jacobs, whose latest collection was featured on the cover of American Vogue, is closing the week as usual. Raf Simons is presenting both his third collection for Calvin Klein and his own menswear brand; while Tom Ford is eschewing co-ed shows by showing his new menswear and womenswear separately a few days apart. We're looking forward to seeing what Coach, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta and of course Jeremy Scott have come up with! And keeping a close eye on Monse, newcomers (to the NYFW runway at least) Eckhaus Latta, the powerful subversive duo, and Rihanna’s favourite denim aficionado Matthew Adams Dolan.

THE FROW

As with designers, there has been a thinning of big celebrity sightings too. This time last year Katie Holmes, Jennifer Hudson and Lucy Liu sat at Zac Posen alone, for example, and by September, the significant celeb snaps were confined to those of a pregnant Jessica Alba and Jessica Seinfeld. And all for a good reason. According to The New York Times, in the practice of pay-per-pose, an A-lister like Angelina Jolie could command close to $1 million per show. As expected Tom Ford kicked off NYFW AW18 with a guest list that included Ciara and husband Russell Wilson, Pusha T and Halsey. Jessica Alba is a Tory Burch veteran so she’ll probably be there, ditto for Zoe Kravitz at close friend Alexander Wang’s show. Rashida Jones is a fan of  Rachel Comey, actress Chloe Grace Moretz has been a COACH regular in the past and may even show up to the Victoria Beckham show (she’s currently dating Brooklyn Beckham). Olivia Culpo and her New England Patriots player boyfriend Danny Amendola are scheduled to make an appearance, according to E! Online. And from the music scene: Solange Knowles Tinashe and Teyana Taylor may all show up. As far as street style trendsetters are concerned: Yasmin Sewell, (heavily pregnant) Leandra Medine, Lisa Aiken and Linda Tol are all safe bet sightings and women to follow on Instagram if you’re not already. Stay glued to Shopcade for more #FashionWeek updates and speaking of sticking to that New York aesthetic, shop our favourite NYFW designers via our expert edit below!

Denim has historically been one of the most flattering fabrics for both men and women. It's also surprisingly versatile, adored by the high street and the high end alike. So it came as no surprise that for AW18 denim is super playful unexpected and comfortable. This means no skinny jeans in the horizon, lots of cutouts, embroidery, patches and variety in hemlines. Here are our top picks!

CUTOUTS

Take cues from Kendall Jenner and sport a sexy midi denim skirt with cutouts and style it with a silk spaghetti strapped top with detailing. Finish the look with a vintage pair of 90s inspired sunnies and an equally grungy pair of mules for an extra chic look.

MODEL OFF DUTY JEANS

The days of skinny jeans are thankfully pretty much over for our figures and most of all for optimum blood circulation. Yes, those things were tight. Bella Hadid, Gigi and the entire bunch are sporting a much more comfy solution: boyfriend jeans. For example, Bella opted for a red-hot appeal to a dated Canadian tuxedo while Kendall (going for denim again) wore a sheer bodysuit under a dark wash pant and jacket. Frederikke Sofie went for a polished jumpsuit and layered it on a duster jacket while Imaan Hammam went old school by pairing her baggy overalls with a plaid top.

STEP HEM

If you really want to nail the 2018 denim look then look no further than the step hem. You can thank French designers Vetements for the much needed innovative twist! If you don't have the Vetements budget why not try a little DIY and give them a makeover with staggered edges. Look below for other affordable options. The great thing about the step hem is that you can style it as you please, no rules apply here!

DOUBLE DENIM

Canadian tuxedo has many retro connotations that range from Woodstock, to Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears circa 2001, to Dolly Parton circa forever. But even if the trend seems dated, kitsch or unflattering it actually completely depends on styling. You can go safe, by throwing a chambray shift over your denim dress, instead of going head to toe dungarees and jacket. Try sporting a deconstructed denim shirt over your denim skirt shorts or trousers and it will instantly give a modern look to your outfit.

FRINGING

For the past 3 years, tassels and fringes have been put front and centre and they don't show any signs of abandoning the limelight. The great news about a trend sticking around for more than a few seasons is that it's been given a chance to evolve. So you don't have to stick to your frayed hem jeans, necessarily. Pick up a mini skirt with fringes, a flawless denim jacket or opt for a pair of uber cool denim sandals finished with tassels. One of our favourites is a distressed denim blouse with a frayed hem courtesy of Marcus Almeida. Thank you!

EMBROIDERED

This is the year to go for embroidered. The obvious option here is springtime florals but don't let that hinder you. From rock n roll roses, to funky pineapples even quotes make for a super stylish way to decorate your favourite pair of jeans this summer.

PATCHWORK

If you want to play with dimension design and personality adding uber cool patches is the denim path for you! You can try clashing similar blue tonal panels or play with different sizing by assembling large squares with minuscule patches on the jeans. Experiment with positioning pockets in unexpected places or colours. If DIY is not your calling don't worry! Just browse through our selected edit of denim items and shop your favourite items now!

You may be stumped upon what jewellery to get this Valentine's day and a piece of jewellery is always a safe bet. You may want to get a gift for your best gal pal or may even one to treat yourself to a little anti-Valentine's day gifting to celebrate your badass singledom.

T#fcfbfb">here's a certain personal element when buying a piece of jewellery for someone. It means that you're truly aware of their individual style that rarely follows trends. After examining the style of the person that will wear the gift choose between modern and classic. For a classic look go for minimal stacked gold enamel or raw earthy touches. For modern try maximalist colour, chunky silhouettes, layering and funky design.

STATEMENT EARRINGS

When it comes to earrings opt for tassel, chandelier or statement architectural earrings to be completely on trend for this season. The earrings are meant to be the main focal point so keep the rest of the outfit muted for immense effect. For a classic look go for drop earrings or a pair of pearl earrings and wear them with an evening look or a smart casual outfit.

LAYER HOOPS RINGS PENDANTS

Get a bunch of pendants to layer, including gold hoops in different sizes or statement rings that say something about you. The layering and the choice of accessory here will communicate your individuality.

MATCH THEM

For a black-tie event go for a matching necklace or choose a necklace with multiple layers for a nonchalant effect that is oh-so-chic.

ARM PARTY

Opt for an array of bold and colourful bracelets for your maximalist friend otherwise known as "arm party". The effect is a joyful blend of materials and colours that can easily act as one comprehensive accessory. Avoid adding any other piece of jewellery such as  drop earrings or necklaces and keep the attention to your bracelets.

Hands up if you only watch the Super Bowl for the American national anthem and the halftime show? Us too, and also for an annual real life sighting of the supermodel Gisele as she supports her husband, the record-breaking star New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady with their family. Although this year the 5 time world champions didn’t retain their trophy in Super Bowl LII as the so-called ‘underdogs’ Philadelphia Eagles beat them 41-33, with Brandon Graham's incredible strip-sack knocking the ball out of Brady’s hands. That’s a very rough summary of the actual American football played because we were most excited to see Justin Timberlake in his comeback gig, to crown the release of his new album 'Man of the Woods.' P!nk had wowed belting out ’The Star-Spangled Banner’ with the flu earlier on.

Timberlake had a tough task following Lady Gaga’s epic performance last year and Beyonce’s stunning politically-charged rendition of ‘Formation’ the year before, and the talented singer-dancer didn’t quite reach the same heights. His mandate seemed to be family friendly rather than forward-thinking and so Timberlake dutifully delivered: slickly dancing his way through a medley of his greatest hits including ‘Rock your Body’ (which he did at his 2003 Super Bowl show with Janet Jackson that lead to #nipplegate), ‘Señorita’, ‘My Love’, ‘Sexy Back’, 'Cry me a River', ‘Suit and Tie’, ‘End of Time’ at a piano and ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ to close.

There were no NSYNC, Janet Jackson or ‘Filthy’ robot appearances but plenty of backing dancers, a live brass band and a few sound issues; and Timberlake did pay tribute to the late Prince, as the game was being staged in his hometown Minnesota, by covering ‘I Would Die 4 U’. The late legendary artist was projected next to him as a video rather than a ‘demonic’ hologram and his fans weren’t happy as Prince reportedly didn’t like Timberlake. Unlike longterm Timberlake’s fans from his NSYNC and ‘Justified' days who voiced their approval on social media, but the whole thing did little to inspire a new generation, as the young man who got a selfie with Timberlake hinted by his actions.

What Timberlake wore also sparked plenty of debate and memes. Fresh out of Stella McCartney’s AW18 menswear collection (so not in stores yet) and in line with his new ‘country with R’n’b roots’ sound, he sported a deer scene shirt with a cameo splatter print and Prince of Wales check suit, a red bandana around his neck, a fringed leather jacket and chunky white Nike sneakers which looked like custom Jordans. GQ has full details/sketches and it was the most progressive thing about the performance- a fresh way to pull off clashing prints for men.

So if you want to, or you’d like your boyfriend to dress like Timberlake, admire his instagram shots in the gallery above, watch the halftime show here and then shop our edit of similar styles below.

Urban Decay is launching a brand new eyeshadow palette, who name is Here Comes Trouble. I'm loving the matte shades selection and the gorgeous jewel tone shimmer shadows that make the perfect pops of colour. And what really intrigued me on this palette, is the half white and half black eyeshadow it seems such a practical and cool idea. But it thinks that if you use it too much, the two shades can transfer to one another and create a little mess. What're your thoughts on this idea? Hung Vanngo it's just the king of makeup no makeup. This makeup look it's just magic to the eyes. When i first saw it, the first word that came to my mind to name it was "Bare makeup" And yes, even if the complexion looks bare. I still catch a glossy touch on the eyelids and a little mascara with a clear lipgloss. I just adored makeup that doesn´t look like makeup. The last look from the Grammys that I think deserves to be shared is Miley Cyrus. We have watched Miley grow up on our screens and in our magazines. Not only that but we've watched her style grow up too. A plethora of hairstyles and a lot of fabulous glitter has brought Miley to where she is today. This look was so simple but so stylish. Miley looks chic in black with a high neckline but fun - the line is chopped in patterns and the nature of the jumpsuit enhances the same feel. This feels like Miley saying she's a little more grown up, sophisticated even, but she's still the same in essence. Image: Vogue
