White accessories, especially those adorning our feet, are on track to be all the rage. I recently post a photo of some beautiful, buckled boots by Topshop and then stumbled upon these heels on ASOS. A cute, kitten heel version of the alternative chunky boot. These will be perfect in summer with jeans or midi skirts. I love that the heel and court toe are fairly feminine but the buckle adds a masculine edge. I have to have them. Image: ASOS

You've seen them on Kaia Gerber, the Hadid sisters can't get enough. It’s the ultimate winter staple and comeback item from the 90’s the era of grunge and tea dresses. It’s the easy way to toughen up any girly outfit and infuse it with some much-needed edge. Even before the Chicago grunge era of Nirvana and Courtney Love combat boots such as Dr. Martens, were causing head waves across the country with the punk rock of movement in all its vinyl, PVC and fishnet glory.

For 2018, the vibe is muted and nuanced. Although we may see lots of touches from the previously mentioned punk trends, the styling now has an amazing way of looking elegant and put together though maintaining that tough, rocker edge.

Combat boots are also surprisingly complimentary to all shapes and sizes. They come with that tiny rubber heel that gives a few cheeky inches to a petite figure. Also, it has a very clever slimming effect. The chunkiness of the boot actually juxtaposes to the calf and elongates the leg as a result. Nothing wrong with that!

Go for a full 90's resurgence look by sporting your combat boots with a frilly tea dress, minimal make-up and a knit cardigan.

Try a student look and style your boots with a pair of denim shorts, a trench coat and a cool red beret.

Opt for an 80's look by adding a LBD and fishnets.

For an up-to-date take on the trend, mix a slip dress under an oversized knit and finish the look with a pair of white Dr. Martens.

We’re definitely on board with British Vogue’s view that Valentine’s day gifts should probably be doubled up this year. And to compliment delicious chocolates or a beautiful bouquet, we’d recommend a fashion gift. Nothing too full-blown like a dress mind, this isn’t an anniversary or birthday; just a thoughtful, chicly thematic token they’ll love that reflects their taste and, if you’re really on it, current trends. Red and pink, together and separately, is so hot right now and forward-thinking heart motifs are all the rage.

Find out their shoe size in advance if you’re going for a sexy heel, fancy flat, shearling slide or heart-stamped sneaker they’ll open in delight and step straight into, whether you’re venturing out or staying in. An adorable knit that they’ll be able to wear to work and on the weekends without messing a beat is just the ticket too as it’s still pretty cold. And a new statement bag that they can use for special occasions (and showing off) is a great idea, especially with Lulu Guinness’ cult lip clutches available in so many colours. Sunglasses are now all year round essentials made charming with heart-shaped frames (which suit every face shape) and you can literally give them your heart- symbolically of course-with a key ring or bag charm.

Get your skates on and shop our edit below. Or feel free to forward this to whoever's getting your gift as there’s only a week to go!

It’s hard to decide what type of shoes to wear for work. The truth is everyone loves a good heel, but at the same time we want to be comfortable. The answer? Go for a simple black shoe with a wedge heel. They are more comfortable than a stilletto and they are just as classy. #blackheels #workshoes

Stockholm Fashion week just ended Tuesday offering us a glimpse of that all promising Scandi aesthetic both on the catwalks as well as the streets of the Swedish capital. With Stockholm Fashion Week underway we're truly getting into polar dressing boot camp more. There's something about those Scandis that can turn winter dressing into an effortless affair that's enviable. This time natives and visitors alike showed up in their best outerwear including bright pink cocoon coats and teddy bear faux fur creations. So ditch the high heel parade and opt for thick-soled shoes whether they're trainers, platforms or even brogue hybrids.

Even though Scandi fashion has long been associated with minimalism, and practicality locals took a different approach this year. We're almost missing those grey black and white tightly edited looks. This time it was mostly about maximalism.

Without a doubt, Scandis can turn winter dressing into an effortless affair with enviable flair.

As Stockholm Fashion week came to a close, natives and visitors alike showed up in their best outerwear including bright pink cocoon coats and teddy bear faux fur creations. Their practical and minimal nature was presented in footwear where the Scandis were all about comfort. So ditch the high heel extravaganza and opt for thick-soled shoes whether their trainers, platforms or even brogue hybrids.

I don't shop at New Look often. It has always been great for a night-out heel and a cute tee but that was pretty much where I drew the line. That was until last year I met my perfect dungarees - in the sale too, it was just all around meant to be. I opted for a dark blue denim pair but the brand is still enticing me with their new ranges. A shape for every leg. Every wash of denim. This black pair is particularly chic yet effortless. I think I need another pair. Image: Instagram @newlook

The search for the ultimate winter boots is over thanks to Dear Frances. Designer Jane Frances launched her luxury footwear brand in London in 2014 with a timeless-with-a-twist ethos and exquisite craftsmanship at its heart and it’s generating quite the buzz. Chances are you’ve seen the now cult Spirit boots, a classic, heeled ankle style, on the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Amal Clooney in various colours, highlighting their cross-generational appeal and unparalleled versatility. And there are the Float boots, Dear Frances’ take on the Chelsea boot, which have lucite accenting the wooden heel- a genius identifiable detail that is fast becoming a signature. Every elegant style has been designed with comfort in mind, to be easily worn all day, every day for years to come.

Dear Frances also deserves credit for its ethical production processes and partnerships with non-profit organisations. The boots are expertly crafted by artisans in Italy, at the same family-owned factory where London College of Fashion graduate Frances previously interned, and with only the finest sustainable materials- from supple leather and suede to decadent velvet are used. The theory is that by creating the highest quality boots possible at an accessible price point, waste and over-production will be minimised as they’ll endure. Clearly these are boots worth stockpiling and investing in, even more so when you realise that the brand sends a pair of shoes to a person in need for every pair sold. It’s part of Dear Frances’ mission to help people worldwide while creating shoes that make you look and feel amazing.

We would like to have the Carrie Bradshaw power and be able to kick the whole city up and down perched on a heel of 15 centimetres. But that requires practice, skill and a few feet bombproof. Do not give up the heights, but let's start with something more affordable: these comfortable high-heeled shoes.Credits: Pinterest

Take your cue from the priests and grandpas of this world by slipping your socked feet into an open toed sandal. There. How does that feel? Toasty we’d bet. Besides hiding un-manicured toes, or not depending on how sheer your socks are, you’ll be able to walk through winter in your summer sandals doubling their cost-per-wear ratio. And give your feet a breather from boots and sneakers. Street style stars have been doing this for a while and we can’t fault this subversive styling trick.

There is an art to tastefully putting your socks and sandals together though. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the heel, the chicer the feel and what a welcome refresh a coloured pair is for a monochrome look. Match and clash colours and you’ll need to make sure sock and strap thickness is in sync. A super thin strap will only get lost with a chunky sock ruining the effect. And for goodness sake show them off with cropped trousers and calf-hitting hemlines.

Topshop smash the party season every year and this Christmas has been no exception. These boots are sure to catch anyone's eye, a true statement shoe. The pointed toe and stiletto heel are completely on trend and I am just obsessed with the sparkles. These shows totally replicate a disco ball, what could be better? Image: Instagram @topshop

As the weather gets colder it's easy to aim for comfort more than style. And it's completely understandable. Who want to wake up before the sun has had its morning coffee and brace chilly temperatures in a skirt and stiletto heels? Not us. In the search for the most optimal shoe  option to strike the comfy/ chic conundrum we concurred that flat is not always the answer. To the contrary a little bump in your height by 3.5 cm is the perfect addition to give you a few extra inches a longer silhouette and let's face it some confidence without making you scream with excruciating back pain.
