Sun exposure, salty water, chlorine and frequent washes can make hair dull and brittle so summer can be a tough season for your tresses. We looked to our panel of beauty experts for a few tips on how to protect your hair during the warmer months.

Fancy having stunning holiday hair all summer long?...

Trim on the regular

Having your hair cut on a regular basis means preventing split ends before they can move up your strands. Book your hair appointment as a preventative measure even if your hair is already in a good condition. Every four to six months should do the trick.

Moisture locked

The sun can have a drying effect on your hair so it's essential to begin a regular regime of deep moisturizing. Apply serum on a weekly or fortnightly basis that will restore the moisture levels. For extra protection apply a hydrating mask for fine or dyed hair.

Wear a hat

Invest in cool fedora hats that will protect your hair and scalp as well as your face from the sun's harmful rays. This season we absolutely love a wide-brimmed hat with a cute bow or boho embroidery.

UV spray

Opt for a generous spritz of UV heat protector before you head out the door in summer. This seems like a small measure to take but it’ll make a ton of difference to your hair and scalp on sunny days.

Now go ahead and enjoy the summer sun with reckless abandon. Shop our favourite haircare products from the  edit below...

Now that the weather’s finally a little warmer, we’re switching up our haircare routines. Hotter days mean more potential damage and those pesky spring and summer showers mean humid afternoons and the odd downpour, leaving our strands frizzy, flat or just generally difficult to manage.

If you have curly hair, these warm damp climes can be your worst enemy but luckily, our Editors have a few secrets up their sleeves. When it comes to keeping your curls in check – we’re talking shine, shape, volume and definition – you’ll want to keep your hair nourished, moisture-rich and styled to perfection.

Browse our edit below for the best warm-weather products to keep your curls looking on point in the heat – come rain or shine…

It's back. The festival that created its own unique dress code is returning this weekend and if you're one of the lucky show goers we have a few tips for you. Packing for Coachella doesn't have to be a daunting task. You don't need to acquire a Native American headdress to impress. In fact, avoiding fancy dress and going for a chicer approach will make more of a statement. So assuming, you’ve already sorted out your luggage, we’ll help you with the packing.

Do's and don'ts when packing for Coachella…

Don't bring a one-piece

Jumpsuits and bodysuits look cute but they’re a no-no at a festival, as you'll be stuck in long toilet cues and you'll have to change in and out of your one-piece. Instead, go for the simpler version with a bralette, cut-off jean shorts and western-style booties.

Do light layering

Considering you'll be faced with the adverse weather of the desert, see-sawing between high and low degrees it's best to resort to layering. Wear your swimsuit top, with a flowing skirt or denim shorts, your booties and a kimono or denim jacket for after dark.

Do practical bags

Backpacks and cross-body bags are your safest bet come festival season. You can store larger items with ease: say your water bottle, SPF, phone and deodorant while leaving your arms and hands free to fist pump and dance the night away.

Don't do sandals

We know the model pack often strolls the California polo fields in sandals which looks adorable during the day but not so practical during the gigs. Instead, go for cute white sneakers or ankle boots that will elevate your outfit and keep your toes safe at the same time.

Do glitter make up

Add some extra sparkle by adopting the festival look without going full unicorn. Some stick-on gems, glitter eyeshadow and shimmering lip balm will leave you looking fresh and ready to party. Avoid heavy eyeliners and dark eyeshadow as they tend to smudge in the heat.

Editor's Pick: Add a dab of self-tan before you hit the festival for an extra glow. Just remember to wash your hands immediately after applying it and stay away from stain-prone clothing like your whites and crochet bikini tops.

Now you're done and ready to party the weekend away! See you in the fields…

In case you did not know, socks will be one of the leading trends of this season . Surely you think that it is something illogical and contradictory since in spring we try to avoid any garment that gives us much heat. Credits: Pinterest

One of the main problems of hair is dryness, due to everything we do with it on a day to day basis. Heat appliances, hairstyles and many other factors make the tips dry out, and we urgently need to hydrate the hair. Before reaching this point, we should also think about using a moisturising mask for the hair.Credits: Pinterest

Backstage at New York Fashion Week, amongst the clicking of heels, swirls of hairspray and flicks of mascara, hairstylist Anthony Turner said 'the blow-dry is back'. It's time to turn of the hair straighteners and give the tongs a miss too. The only styling tool you need this season is your hairdryer. Sleek, glossy hair is where it's at. I am loving this look. A blow-dry always manages to look glam even if it's a done yourself. I've recently started to get more into haircare and my top two products for keeping it healthy are coconut oil and a heat protection spray. To get that perfect at home blow-dry head over to YouTube to find your ideal style, there is a tutorial for everyone. Image: Rex Features

If no amount of hair masks, leave-in conditioners or DIY-egg-treatments are working to revive your dry, damaged and brittle hair, it might be time to reassess how you style and care for your hair before accepting you'll look like a one-hit glam rocker.

Try changing up these six things that you might be doing wrong:

1. Heat styling too often - Over-styling on high heat can quickly damage your hair. Wind it down to low or medium-low heat and always use heat protectants.

2. Using an old hair dryer - Using an old hair dryer or not cleaning out the air vents can clog up your hair dryer, making it work less effectively, and making you use more heat to achieve your hair style.

3. Not using UV protectant - Don’t forget your hair when it comes to sun protection - look for hair products with UV protection built in or find a hair sunscreen.

4. Using heat for every style - Give your hair a rest from heat by using heatless options to create your desired hair style - leaving your hair in braids overnight creates beautiful curls and waves.

5. Using the wrong products - Harsh chemicals such as alcohol or sulfates can strip your hair of its natural moisture. Instead, go for sulfate-free formulas and use coconut or jojoba oil products.

6. You don’t change it up - Wearing your hair in the same way every day can cause your hair strands to weaken, particularly at your parting or where your hair is most stretched. Switch it up to help keep your hair strong.
