Harsh weather, fumes and the stress of city life can weaken our defences and dry up the skin so protecting it is key. Luckily, anti-pollution beauty has arrived. So, for all you city dwellers, we've prepared a list of hacks and products to save your complexion, fight free radicals and get that much-desired glow. Anti-pollution beauty consists of purifying the skin and then  reviving it with great skincare and nutrition...

Begin your routine with a great cleanser. Wash your face and then exfoliate to slough away dry, dead skin; you can use an AHA for this or a gentle scrub two or three times a week.

Follow this with a charcoal mask charcoal is great at purifying the skin and ridding your face of city grime and dirt. Next, apply defence-boosting oils and glow-activating serums for that extra luminous effect.

Finally, make sure you invest in a quality SPF and a daily moisturiser that will protect your skin against damaging UVA and UVB rays. Make-up containing an SPF is great for an extra barrier against sun damage too.

Boost your inner beauty by indulging in a diet full of antioxidants like citrus fruit and berries, nuts and delicious avocados for Vitamin E. Vitamin E is great for fighting free radicals and promoting healthy cell reproduction.

Be sure to incorporate lots of Omega 3 and fatty acids into your diet to help with this too. These are typically found in salmon, tuna and other oily fish. These vitamins and minerals are great for boosting your collagen production, giving you that healthy glow.

Although we’re loving the sunshine and are doing our best to enjoy it while it lasts, we always put our wellbeing first. UV rays can cause phenomenal damage to the skin so we never leave the house on a sunny day without sunscreen.

Beauty editors everywhere will tell you it’s worth investing in a quality sunscreen, or at least a decent face cream with SPF, especially during the summer months. There are tons of great options available so if you’re not sure which brand to try, take a look at our list of favourites and their benefits below…

A nourishing SPF 30 body spray, Mimitika’s sunscreen offering is super lightweight. While providing broad spectrum defence against UVA and UVB rays, it also contains a natural active ingredient to aid melanin production for a natural healthy tan and antioxidant-rich Vitamin E. It’s not tested on animals and is free from parabens, alcohol and allergens.

Infused with hibiscus, fig, aloe and chamomile, this non-greasy sunscreen is made with specially formulated sun filters offering protection between 20SPF and 30 SPF. With regular application it keeps skin feeling moisturised and protected all day long. It’s fragrance free, paraben free, PEG free and vegan.

Specially formulated for the face, this SPF 50 sun lotion shields skin without causing greasiness or staining your clothes. With an 87% natural formulation with Zinc and Titanium Oxide, Green Tea and Jojoba Esters, this sunscreen is free from denatured alcohol and won’t irritate or clog your pores.

Using a combination of zinc and titanium dioxide, this UV shield provides SPF30 broad spectrum protection without blocking pores. Omorovicza uses light-reflecting minerals to blur imperfections and give skin a matte finish. While some mineral-based formulas have a reputation for being thick or chalky, Omorovicza's uses silica spheres of titanium dioxide to smooth over the surface of the skin.

A moisturiser and sunscreen in one, Jurlique’s UV Defence High Protection Lotion is a lightweight cream that offers SPF50 protection. Blending botanicals such as Chamomile and Echinacea to soften, smooth and hydrate skin, this non-sticky formula works very well under make-up and is suitable for all skin types.

A lightweight, oil-free cream offering sun and pollution protection, this lotion is best applied over your usual day cream and under your make-up. Containing antioxidants and organic cantaloupe melon grown in Provence, this sunscreen protects with SPF50, guards against bacteria and fights harmful free radicals too.

You've planned ahead and made the guest list, booked the venue, the photographer and picked out the cake. But as the big day approaches and the planning piles up, the stress kicks in and your skin suffers. Of all the special events in your life, this is probably the one where you’ll want to look and feel your best so we’ve put together a guide to help you. The pre-wedding skincare guide…

For your face

Kick things off by establishing a routine. Start with a deep cleanse that meticulously cleans and helps soften, liquefy and wash away dirt and debris. Then it's time for exfoliation to remove dead skin cells from your face and start work on smooth, fresh skin. For a professional exfoliation treatment, try microdermabrasion or use gentle exfoliating scrubs, peels and acid exfoliators at home. Follow with a Vitamin C-infused serum and then a moisturizing cream that induces collagen and elastin production, calms inflammation and stimulates your skin's blood flow. Editor's tip: Massage your face in a circular upwards motion every day when applying your moisturizer for better results.

For your body

Even if you're not interested in shedding a few pounds, exercise will help you tone up and boost your endorphins which helps to fight stress and promote a healthy glow. Pilates, and personal training are great options, but if you're looking for a fun inexpensive way to lower your cortisol levels, put your running shoes on and head outside. Indulge in a weekly bath with salts to relieve muscle tension from your workout. Exfoliate your skin with a luxe sugar scrub and apply a rich body moisturizer or oil.

Editor’s tip:  For the perfect pre-wedding glow, add a few drops of self tan to your moisturizer. Just remember to wear gloves or wash your hands afterwards.

Voila! Your pre-wedding beauty routine is complete. Shop our edit of the best beauty tools to use below…

It's a rare that bad lighting, the odd pimple or an eye make up mishap will keep us from uploading a selfie to Instagram. Thanks to an ever-evolving array of transformative filters and photo-editing apps. we’re able to creating perfect images in an instant. The latest craze in makeup is attempting to bridge the gap between the edit and reality. Your fave beauty bloggers are creating natural, luminous looks that can definitely get away with the #nofilter hashtag.

Here's how to create that Face Tune result minus the photo-editing app…

Customise your base

In order to create a natural base all you need is to add a little moisturiser to your foundation. For an even dewier result add a cream with a lighter, luminescent tone and enjoy the glowing finish.

Hold back on the concealer

It might be tempting to go crazy on the concealer considering you will not be applying much make up, but this will probably not help with your desired result. Avoid ashy under eyes and apply concealer sparingly.

Go for natural shades

Build up an army of neutral shades with alternative uses. Employ your eye shadow as a bronzer and smudge a glossy lip balm to give your cheeks a healthy glow.

Enjoy the natural look

Invest in low-key lashes and frame your face with bushy, boyish brows a lá Cara.

Fluff your lipstick

Matte lipstick in a natural shade is a huge trend. For a softer finish dampen a small fluffy makeup brush into your powder and use it to create a long lasting matte lip.

This such a simple but stunning makeup look.  The pink healthy cheeks, the big twiggy eyelashes and that lip color that is natural but light ups the complexion at the same time.  I really want to find a lip color like this that looks natural but it's not a nude just a pink soft lipstick You girls have any suggestions? . photo credit: @byrdie on twitter. #beauty #makeup #look #lipstick

Spring is all about dewy skin, barely there shimmers and healthy glows but knowing how to help your skin look its best can be tricky. Protecting it from pollutants in the air is tough and layering up on make up doesn’t always help either. We enlisted the help of some of our favourite beauty bloggers and editors to put together a list of tricks and tools to help you get glowing skin in next to no time. So ditch the foundation, put a cross on your calendar and prepare for a night in dedicated to skincare and spa-like relaxation.

How to detox your skin…

Drink more

It sounds obvious but staying hydrated is the key to great skin. Water and tea are best for flushing the toxins out of your body but avoid black teas and stick to a green tea or a brew made from nettles, dandelion and other detoxifying ingredients.

Work out

Raising your heart rate and breaking a sweat are great for resetting your system, your skin included. Sweating out impurities that build up from snacking on junk food and exposing your skin to pollution and dirt is great but just make sure you hit the shower after a work out to avoid sweat drying on your skin.

Try dry brushing

Brushing your skin helps to slough away dead skin cells and gently help your face and body to feel softer and look brighter. Massaging your skin also helps so investing in a little hand-held massage roller is a great idea too.

Exfoliate your skin and use a mask

Using a face and body exfoliator is a must if you want glowing skin to rival a beauty blogger. Stick with something gentle and exfoliate once a week. You can also use an electric exfoliator like a Foreo – these are great for when you’re in a rush. Using a face mask will also help to nourish and heal your skin, drawing out impurities and leaving it feeling renewed.

Steam your skin

Warm steam is great for your skin so take a cleansing bath or make some time to use a special beauty steamer. Your face will thank you for it.

Chocolate highlights like the ones we see here on Claire Foy are the best one for women's that want to give a fresh and new touch to their hair without looking too made up.  I adore this kind of highlights because they can literally look like the sun is placing softly over your hair when you are outside. Making it look more healthy and radiant.  photo credit: @telva on twitter  #hair #highlights #hairstyle #celeb

Backstage at New York Fashion Week, amongst the clicking of heels, swirls of hairspray and flicks of mascara, hairstylist Anthony Turner said 'the blow-dry is back'. It's time to turn of the hair straighteners and give the tongs a miss too. The only styling tool you need this season is your hairdryer. Sleek, glossy hair is where it's at. I am loving this look. A blow-dry always manages to look glam even if it's a done yourself. I've recently started to get more into haircare and my top two products for keeping it healthy are coconut oil and a heat protection spray. To get that perfect at home blow-dry head over to YouTube to find your ideal style, there is a tutorial for everyone. Image: Rex Features

Maca's popularity has exploded the past few years. Despite being revered for its medicinal properties for years the maca root is taking over the health community as the latest superfood. Many influencers are adding it to their morning brew for an extra boost of energy and stamina.

The maca plant is a type of vegetable so powerful that it's sometimes referred to as Peruvian ginseng. It looks very similar to radishes and turnips with green tops and roots. Usually, the yummy tasting root is available in powder after being harvested. It has natural healing properties and has been consumed for years in the Andes as a safe superfood. The maca root powder is high in protein carbs and rich in a number of nutrient including vitamin C, copper and iron. It can also help the body adapt to external stressors like a busy schedule or illness.

RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

It has many health benefits mainly because it's rich in antioxidants meaning it can neutralise harmful free radicals fighting off disease and preventing damage to cells including ageing.

ENHANCES MENTAL ABILITIES

A regular maca intake can improve energy, mood and memory. People that have been implementing it in their routine admit that they feel more awake, energized and driven to take on the day without the shakiness of a strong coffee.

BALANCES ESTROGEN LEVELS

Many women suffer from estrogen imbalance levels including bloating irregular menstrual periods and mood swings. Maca, can control the amount of estrogen in the body and also can relieve the symptoms of menopause. Start with one tablespoon of maca powder daily and increase it up to two or three tablespoons throughout the day. You'll notice an increase in energy so it's best to take it before exercising or starting a demanding day. If you're already researching for the best maca powder, don't worry we have rounded them up all for you.

Fashion Week is so much more than style. During fashion week we get an inside look at the hair and makeup trends that we'll be sporting all next season. On a few lucky occasions like this years’ New York Fashion Week, it also reflects a shift in society on the very definition of beauty. This NYFW was bursting with a sense of change that was embracing activism, and celebrities that were more disrupting than your average celeb bunch.

From the breast cancer survivor Erica Hart, who walked at the Chromat show in a slip dress that was gracefully showing off her scars to the ten-year-old drag kid Desmond Napoles, who walked proudly at Gypsy Sport. To accommodate to this celebration of inclusivity and uniqueness, makeup and hairstyles were extravagant, rebellious and bold.

EYE FOCUS

The focus currently has shifted towards eye makeup featuring over the top looks such as black lashes and plastic bug eyes á la Gareth Pugh. There was gold glitter at Ulla Johnson and smoky eyes at Tom Ford or Alice + Olivia who traded the liquid eyeliner for a smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples. While Kate Spade opted for diamonds carefully glued on the models’ eyelids.

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS

When it comes to hair, the trend was all about spray products using all the essentials to create a  wet look. The accessories were over the top featuring 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent updos put together with an army of hair gel.

BOLD LIPS

Whether it's two-tone pink and red lipstick, a healthy glow so extreme you're basically applying moon dust to your skin, red was a constant. The classic crimson lip became a powerful pout painted in a carefree fashion of individuality, whether it was in liquid form at Chromat or matte at Bottega Veneta.

HAIR DYE

Objecting to the single hair colour trend of seasons past, bold as they may have been, this time it was all about strategically placed streaks. The models at Sies Marjan wore pinks and blues while green and blonde short dos was also a trend at Marc Jacobs. Which of the makeup trends will you be trying this season? Shop all the beauty and hair essentials from our expert edit below!
