There are few greater pleasures than entertaining friends and family over a home-cooked meal – or a takeaway, if that’s your jam. The warm fuzzy feeling that comes with hosting the perfect dinner party is a hard one to beat, especially when your décor’s on point…

Creating the ideal ambience for a meal with your favourite people is easy, if you stick to a few simple design rules.

Colour scheme

Pick a fresh colour scheme like green and pink or white and navy and throw in metallic accents for an easy yet luxe look to rival the top tables of Pinterest.

Eclectic vibes

Accessorise the table with colourful napkins, ornaments, place card holders and unique glasses. Mix and match your flatware and invest in cool pieces like cutlery in brassy tones or tinted glasses. Turn your table into the main event and have fun with it.

Add foliage

Fresh flowers, succulents, sprigs of eucalyptus – greenery makes everything look better and makes for gorgeous table setting options. Experiment with seasonal plants and flowers for the perfect summer and autumn-inspired aesthetic and garnish your drinks with fresh herbs for a fresh twist on the botanical décor trend.

Light it up

Create a chilled atmosphere with candles and twinkling lights. Opt for a mix of chic candelabras and chunky scented candles for the perfect ambience indoors or al fresco.

Even though Pantone's 2017 color of choice was " Greenery", a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade symbolising new beginnings the truth of the matter is, the year felt like it was dedicated to millenial pink. Actually there's never been a year so chromatically in sync with Elle Woods wardrobe - Ever.

But, as all Barbie things come to an end, Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year will be "Ultra Violet, a "spiritual, cosmic" purple that "communicates originality ingenuity and visionary thinking that point us toward the future".

As predicted this already caused a riot with Ultra Violet’s relative hue Lilac causing a major craze. The fresh pastel shade was everywhere all over  the SS18  shows, from Victoria Beckham and Tibi at New York Fashion Week, before heading over to Emporio Armani at London Fashion Week and Céline in Paris.

So how do you wear the ice cream shade with confidence? This season it’s all about keeping it paired back with clean lines. Try it on a sharp boutique pantsuit, a see-through blouse and a simple slip dress. The head-to-toe look is very bold so if you feel a bit unsure opt for a few accessories here and there like strappy sandals, a statement bag or sunnies.

Are you ready to immerse yourself in head-to-toe Ultra Violet? Scroll down below and shop your favourite styles from our edit!

You may have missed the memo that Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017 was ‘Greenery’ in the mist of all the millennial pink. The influential colour forecaster picks a very specific colour every year that creeps into trends, interiors and wardrobes worldwide and this year’s refreshing yellowy-green supposed to symbolise nature and new beginnings. We’re bringing this up now because 2018’s colour has just been announced: ‘Ultra Violet’. Not be to confused with ‘Love Symbol #2’- iconic artist Prince’s official hue- this dark, blue based purple is brighter and more mysterious; signalling originality, forward thinking and mindfulness. It’s actually very close to Cadbury’s chocolate purple, which is as good an excuse as any to tote and try as many flavours as possible in the coming year. And both 2017 and 2018 shades are surprising easy to wear: whether head-to-toe a la Versace SS18 for Ultra Violet or teamed with other tones if you’re discerning about the shade.

Get into ‘Greenery’ for the rest of the month then pop in ‘Ultra Violet’ from January with our ready-to-shop edits below!

On Thursday our Creative Director Hoon flew to Paris to watch the Balmain show, read below his recap...

After Valentino’s parent company Mayhoola finalised a deal to buy Balmain (supposedly for €485Million), all eyes were on the runway on September 29, to witness how the recent merger has affected Olivier Rousteing’s creative direction for the fashion house. The anticipation was real - Mayhoola was aiming to recreate the same success with Balmain as with Valentino- Mayhoola boosted Valentino’s revenue by $1Billion in 2015 after acquisition.

Whether this was the reason behind the shift - when the new Balmain spring summer 2017 show hit the runway, it felt “modern, fun, but considered”. Rather than heavy, nearly military-esque fits with embroidery we were used to from Balmain, Olivier showed flowy, natural, and ethereal dresses and gowns with a revealing slit here and there. Against a lush greenery backdrop, models including Gigi Hadid walked out wearing very accessible outfits but with a Parisian edge, leaving an impression of lush inclusion for the viewers, rather than the hard “Balmain Army” concept we were used to.

There were more colours - also a departure from previously monochrome Balmain collections - desert tones, cargo greens, snakeskin prints, graphic stripes- everything looks more ready-to-wear, and more affordable than the high couture concepts of previous years.

The collection was a new type of sexy- modern, and more accessible, and complete creative success for Balmain’s new direction.

On a sidenote the big news also turned to Kim Kardashian, who came to the show in a mesh catsuit, underwear-free.

Looking for the perfect staple bag to see you through SS15? Tired of carrying 'round your year-old cracked leather satchel?

Look to Aspinal of London's beautiful Marylebone Mini in Powder Pink to brighten your style ;) Here's how you can work this bag THREE ways...

Working Girl: Got a head for business and a bod for sin? Dakota Johnson's ma Melanie Griffith may have given the perfect elevator pitch in the '80s classic, "Working Girl", but she'd have done even better armed with the Marylebone Mini. Paired with Reiss' Harlem leather pencil skirt, a Calvin Klein Waitlin sheer panel blouse and some sexy Soho lizard print court shoes by Lucy Choi London, there's no telling what your killer mind AND bod can accomplish.

Spirited Away: You might not meet any handsome shapeshifting dragons any time soon but that shouldn't stop you from dressing like you' could be whisked away at a moment's notice! With the Marylebone Mini packing all your essentials - you'd be surprised at how much you can fit in there! - glide through greenery in a Free People dress and some Ancient Greek sandals.

Some Like It Hot: Take a leaf out of Marilyn's book and dress to impress only the way a modern fashionista can - with a killer handbag on her arm! Wear the Marylebone Mini with Paige Denim's Ultra Skinny Leggings in black and a silk v-neck wrap top by Joseph. Slip on some sexy open toe heeled sandals with leopard print detail, a pair of Ray-Bans and voila! You're all set.

In the absence of greenery on the trees during the colder months, designers are stepping in this season. Dark, lefty greens were seen all over the Autumn/Winter 2014 collection – a shade that's ludicrously easy to wear no matter your style. Photo Credit: Pinterest #green #greenstreet #winter #trees
