If you think metallic make up’s the reserve of festivals and Christmas parties, think again. The trend for shimmering skin and iridescent eyelids has blown up in the last two years with bloggers, celebs and influencers all opting for a beauty look inspired by precious metals…

As summer draws to a close and we start to think about autumnal looks – see berry lips and bushy brows – why not start working a little sparkle into your make up routine too?

A sweep of gold-toned eye shadow or a pearlescent sheen of highlighter is the perfect way to elevate your look during the day. Invest in highly-pigmented products in deep gold, rust and bronze tones and opt for highlighters with either a pink or yellow under-hue.

For after dark it’s all about drama so opt for dark black lashes with a pop of silver liner or a little glitter dusted across your brow bone. Go for fine glitter rather than chunky flecks as this will give your skin a bright, luminescent quality under the lights.

With so many festivals and big events taking place this summer, it’s time to supercharge your look. We’re talking cute pastel hues, metallics, glitter and statement accessories. But why stop with your outfit?

Festival hair is the biggest trend to hit Instagram this season and believe us when we say these mermaid and extra terrestrial-inspired looks are here to stay. Though they might look out of this world, they’re actually pretty easy to master…

Start with clean hair

Be sure to give your hair a good wash before attempting a festival hair look. Using a purifying shampoo, conditioner and scalp exfoliator will give you a great base to start with. Give your locks a simple blow dry with plenty of heat protector and style wavy, straight or curly, depending on your preference.

Get textured

The boho babe look is all about texture so use a texturizing spray, pomade or salt spray to tease and curl different sections of you hair. Scrunch, twist and even backcomb a few sections underneath to add volume. Next, style in braids or space buns and finish with a little extra backcombing at the front.

Just add glitter

Next you’ll want to add a little sparkle. Spray a little hairspray or lightly apply a small amount of gel to the area you want to add glitter to. Then using soft make up brush carefully dab glitter in layers and set with hair spray.

Finishing touches

Finally, take a little color spray or hair chalk and highlight sections of your bangs or the ends of your braids. Go for a cool blue or pastel pink to really make the glitter pop. Finish with a spritz of hair perfume to keep you fresh and festival ready and voilà.

After a decade of minimalism, sleek lines and simple colours, trends inspired by disco and the '70s are bringing bold textures back into fashion. From Gucci to Versace, designers reinvented the vintage trend with a modern twist, finding inspiration with IT girls Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber and eschewing the desire to blend in.

We love everything that sparkles and shines around Christmas and a sequinned number never goes amiss, but honestly, it's a shame to leave those glittering outfits hanging in our wardrobes for the rest of the year.

We're donning our sequins for spring, gearing up for a summer of festivals and long balmy evenings. We can't get enough of sequin embellishments on everything from heels, to clutch bags and evening gowns. Shop below and prepare to feel like the queen you are,...

Boho is set to be big this summer but if you’re not ready to go for full-on pom poms and prairie dresses, how about trying a hint of fringe instead? The sleeker, subtler sister of a full-length boho frock, fringed dresses take cues from tasselled garments from way out west.

Look to Christian Dior's collection for cowgirl-inspired pieces, Loewe for knotted T-shirt dresses and Bottega Veneta for ‘60s-style mini dresses adorned with rock’n’roll leather fringing. Want the look for less? Why not try a simple iteration from Mango, where you’ll find fringed panelling and hems for SS18 – perfect for festivals and sunny days.

An easy way to infuse your look with a touch of eclectic cool, designers are opting for fringes and tassels to elevate simple looks to new heights this season. Team yours with simple accessories like leather ankle boots, a minimalist clutch or a pair of barely-there heels to let the detailing take centre stage.

From swinging tassels on day dresses to glittering sequinned threads and flashes of eyelash lace for after dark, fringing is in and here to stay.

Shop our edit of the best fringed dresses, from high street to high end, below…

A face without freckles really is like 'a sky without stars' (Natasha Bedingfield was right!), and now your face can sparkle just like the night sky with the best beauty trend to come out of festivals. Glitter. Any decent Boots will carry reasonably priced pots of Barry M body glitter to carry your Year 6 school-disco staple into 2018 festival season, and no self-respecting tipsy girl will be dancing in a field without it this spring/summer. For a few years now the trend has been going strong, but new styles are always emerging to revive it. Application to cheekbones and under-eye areas are popular methods to boost highlighter brightness, but all-over speckled looks like the one above can be ethereal in their charmingly hap-dash appearance, perfect for weekends spent in woodland retreats. Experiment on big nights out to find your favourite glitter look before festival season kicks into gear. PS. A warning: you'll be finding glitter in places where glitter has never been before, months after the tents are packed up and empty cider bottles recycled, but the sparkle is worth it. Go forth and shine bright! [Photo cred.: Pinterest]

John Galliano's designs for the Maison Margiela couture collection were described by Suzy Menkes, Vogue's International Editor, as 'pure imagination. Indeed his polyurethane coats are not ready-to-wear pieces we will be donning for music festivals but will definitely inspire those on the high street. The glimmering garms are truly a sight to behold, fit for fashion wonderland. Image: Vogue.co.uk
