It’s no secret that in the world of interiors maximalism is set to be huge for FW18 and well into the New Year. We’ve bid farewell to minimalist Scandi style and settled our sights firmly on a more eclectic, cozier set of trends for the seasons ahead.

You can interpret the maximalist trend in plenty of ways but one of our favourite iterations of the trend has to be the luxe rock’n’roll look. Think dark and vibrant tones with flashes of color, print and texture thrown in.

Animal prints, gallery walls, plush velvet and nods to your favourite artists are all encouraged as are hints of gold and silver to add depth against tonal black, grey and deep-blue walls.

The perfect mix of glam styling and home comforts, try mixing and matching your artworks and accessories and always mix vintage with contemporary designs for a considered yet relaxed vibe.

The maximalist home décor trend isn’t going anywhere so we’ve created an edit of the best pieces to help infuse your space with the spirit of rock’n’roll…

A playful mish-mash of vintage finds and ironic ‘bad taste’ objects, kitsch embraces bright colours and retro silhouettes. Certainly an acquired taste, when done right kitsch can be a real crowd pleaser.

This eclectic trend is the definition of maximalism and is certainly not for the faint of heart.
You can dial up the look as much as you like for maximum impact or simply dedicate a corner of your home. Whatever your choice, it’s worth bearing these three golden rules in mind…

Mix and match

This goes for everything – colours, styles, patterns and eras. Don’t be afraid to pepper a vintage sofa with bright modern cushions or mix up your artworks.

Cluster objects

Your kitschy items will be far more impactful when grouped together. This way, your ornaments, artworks and furniture will play off each other far better and work much harder.

Be personal

Pick out items that make you happy, represent you or evoke memories. The beauty of kitsch is that it’s a totally celebratory décor trend and the perfect opportunity to showcase your creative side.

Maximalism is set to be big this autumn and whether you’re revamping your wardrobe, your accessories line-up or your home, the eclectic trend is here to stay.

Now when it comes to interior design nailing the maximalist trend can be tricky and there are a few rules to follow if you want to get it right. Basically, it all comes down to clashing prints…

Power of three

When you’re clashing prints to create an eclectic, maximalist feel in your space, be sure to pick out no more than three strong prints. Whether you use these sparingly or cover an entire wall, be sure to limit your choice to two or three designs to keep things looking chic and considered rather than messy and out of control.

Colour code

Picking out prints from the same colour family – like neutrals, pinks or monochrome – can really help to bring a space to life and character while still sticking to your chosen theme. Try an autumnal palette for the new season or channel 2018’s punk-inspired vibes with clashing animal prints.

Accent and accessorise

Rather than adorning every surface in your home with print, carefully select smaller statement print pieces to make the most of them. Opting for accent pieces and cool accessories will mean you can not only mix and match but this also gives you the option to tone your maximalist interior up or down depending on your mood.

There are few greater pleasures than entertaining friends and family over a home-cooked meal – or a takeaway, if that’s your jam. The warm fuzzy feeling that comes with hosting the perfect dinner party is a hard one to beat, especially when your décor’s on point…

Creating the ideal ambience for a meal with your favourite people is easy, if you stick to a few simple design rules.

Colour scheme

Pick a fresh colour scheme like green and pink or white and navy and throw in metallic accents for an easy yet luxe look to rival the top tables of Pinterest.

Eclectic vibes

Accessorise the table with colourful napkins, ornaments, place card holders and unique glasses. Mix and match your flatware and invest in cool pieces like cutlery in brassy tones or tinted glasses. Turn your table into the main event and have fun with it.

Add foliage

Fresh flowers, succulents, sprigs of eucalyptus – greenery makes everything look better and makes for gorgeous table setting options. Experiment with seasonal plants and flowers for the perfect summer and autumn-inspired aesthetic and garnish your drinks with fresh herbs for a fresh twist on the botanical décor trend.

Light it up

Create a chilled atmosphere with candles and twinkling lights. Opt for a mix of chic candelabras and chunky scented candles for the perfect ambience indoors or al fresco.

Whether you’re lucky enough to live by the sea in a light-filled beach house or not, there’s no denying the coastal boho trend is a big deal this season…

The beauty of home décor is that, no matter where you live or the size of your space, you can channel just about any atmosphere if you know how. Nailing the bohemian beach house trend is easy, provided you follow a few simple design rules...

The first is the most important – keep things light, bright and minimalist. You may be tempted to overcrowd your space to achieve that eclectic feel, however, to achieve the perfect sea, sky and sand-inspired look, less is more.

Keep your color palette neutral and play with accent tones of blue and green. Opting for natural materials is also a must so think richly-grained wood, seagrass, linen and breezy cotton.

If you’re not ready to remodel your whole space, you can channel the look just as easily by being smart with your accessories. Mix up your scatter cushions or throw pillows and clash fabrics and patterns to nail that hippy-inspired vibe.

Opt for driftwood accents, candles and cool framed prints of the ocean and complete the look with neutral bed linen and textural rugs.

If your living space is looking a little unloved but you don’t have time for the major task of redecorating, we have the perfect set of summer home hacks for you…

Opting for nature-inspired prints and earthy accents is a great way to refresh any room in your house. Plus, the beauty of the botanical décor trend is that it can be repurposed and reinvented for every season – leaf prints and florals are always in.

Statement wallpaper

Bold wallpaper is a great way to infuse a room with botanical beauty. Opt for a lush green palm print for your living space, bamboo and bark for the bathroom and soft petals for the bedroom.

Mix everything

Mix up your couch, your cushions and your drapes by clashing your prints, tones and textures. Avoid matching pieces and opt for a cool gallery wall or surface of framed prints to achieve an effortlessly eclectic look.

Accessories and accents

Greens and earth tones look stunning next to bright tones like off white and copper. Contrast your printed pieces with metallic accessories and soft creamy-toned soft furnishings and walls.

Hot houseplants

What’s a botanical paradise without a few houseplants? Invest in a few faux options that will elevate your space and require zero time and effort all year round.

Not jetting off to an idyllic Mediterranean island for a month-long sojourn this summer? Don’t sweat it – make the villa of your dreams come to you instead…

When it seems like the whole world is holidaying and a staycation is on the cards for you, turning your home into a relaxing space in which to soak up those heady summer vibes is a must.

Channel the chilled ambience of the Balearic Islands with light tones, neutral touches and natural materials. Add bright flashes of colour and texture with unique accessories, luxe bed linen and throws or boho furniture.

Keep things minimalist and breezy by doing away with clutter and instead, grouping a few cool accessories together in an open space.

Sea blues, bright chalky whites and warm natural terracotta tones are all great for infusing a space with an island-inspired aesthetic. Use neutral walls and surfaces as your backdrop and layer a little colour for an eclectic finish.

There are a few age-old interior design tricks that always work, no matter what your home looks like or how spacious it is – see upping the cosiness factor in winter with twinkly lights or adding a little interest with a gallery wall. Changing up your space to suit a new season is easy, you just have to know a few of the golden rules…

One of the most important tricks is knowing just how powerful colour can be and knowing how to work a trend to your advantage. This season it’s all about yellow – sunshine tones, mustard hues, deep orangey palettes, yellow home decor is everywhere.

Now, we’re not saying you should rush in with the Dulux and paint all four walls yellow. On the contrary, if you want to work this bold tone in your space, you’ll need to be careful to balance it with the rest of your décor. The key here is using yellow as an accent colour. You can do this in three ways…

Opt for bright yellow accessories like candles, cushions and artworks to offset the rest of the room. A pop of colour will lend the space a cheerful, eclectic vibe.

Invest in a statement piece that will act as the only yellow focal point in the room. A velvet sofa, chair, a pair of yellow curtains or sunflower-toned doors, cabinets and shelves will draw the eye and pep up the room in no time.

Lastly, for something a little more permanent you can get creative with paint and paper. Invest in a cool roll of printed wallpaper from the likes of Cole & Son, Matthew Williamson or House of Hackney and bring the sunshine in on a feature wall or papered surface – this works especially well in the bedroom or bathroom.

Florence Welch recently made headlines all over the world as she sang tracks from her new album High as Hope at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Once again, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine proved her skill not only in song and stage presence, but with her signature theatrical boho style – something we’ve always loved about her.

During the Chanel AW2015 show she conquered the red carpet in a blush-pink pantsuit with eclectic accessories and a huge black fedora hat. While at Erdem she appeared in an emerald-green feather coat, complementing a pair of dark-wash jeans.

A gal truly inspired by the '70s, Florence isn’t afraid of bold print and rocks anything from psychedelic swirls to chintzy florals. Sporting gowns with billowing capes – like that gorgeous custom Gucci column gown she donned for Chime for Change – this singer always wows us with her maximalist style. F

or accessories, Flo seems to love a fringed bag or teeny, tiny clutches. She's a fan of silk scarves, unique headpieces and of course, dangling bohemian earrings.

It’s no secret that we’re fans of Alexa Chung. The model, writer, IT-girl and now designer is always ahead of the curve when it comes to her style. Her influences are myriad, from punk to Victoriana, and we love the creative references in her own collections too.

Alexa’s latest collection is inspired by Bloomsbury Set – a group of artists and writers – and the wild, eclectic decor at their Sussex country retreat, Charleston House.

Alexa Chung launched her eponymous label ALEXACHUNG this year and was keen to honour her British roots with the new designs. The label combines Parisian chic with a New York edge and a British sense of humour.

We’re head over heels for the dreamy images on the Alexachungstagram feed, shot at Charleston for SS18. The Virginia collection, inspired by Virginia Woolf, features white boho dresses, statement floral prints and illustrated silk scarves and tees in Alexa’s signature quirky style.

From ear crawlers to studs and classic hoops, the style set loves to mix and match their accessories. Rocking rose gold with silver, mixing vintage with modern design, cool girls everywhere are opting for the eclectic look.

The secret to nailing this trend is to wear delicate pieces together. We love silver moons and stars worn with slim gold hoops, or a mix of glittering studs that don’t quite match as seen on Kylie Jenner. Don’t be afraid to mix your metals and go for simple styles in gold, silver or our favourite for spring, rose gold.

If you don’t have multiple piercings in your ears, don’t fret. You can tap into the trend just as easily with an ear cuff or two. From diamond-studded rings to abstract spirals, layer different designs for an effortless look.
