There is nothing more ravishing than a desi girl in a sari, and Bollywood's brightest know it all too well! Over the decades, we have seen the sari turn into a timeless classic, making the actresses wearing them seem just a little more magical than usual. To celebrate throwback Thursday this week, we have rounded up some of the most iconic sari looks in Bollywood. Check it out!

a) Sridevi in Mr. India
The chiffon sari holds an eternal place in all Bollywood fans' hearts, as does Sridevi. In the 1987 classic film Mr. India, she looked incredible in an electric blue chiffon sari, paired with a matching bindi and the trademark glossy lip. We've loved it then, and we love it now!

b) Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
No Bollywood list is complete without a Kajol mention, amirite? Her iconic transformation from a headband wearing tomboy to a sari clad desi diva was absolutely incredible, and we must admit, that red sari made her look all kinds of stunning!

c) Kareena Kapoor in Chameli
Kareena Kapoor is carefree and breathtaking in the 2004 classic film Chameli. Even in a mismatched red and blue sari, she is all smiles and sass as she dances around a skeptical Rahul Bose. We don't know about him, but we were certainly floored!

d) Sushmita Shetty in Main Hoon Na
Even though Sush turns heads in her everyday life too, Main Hoon Na has to have been the reason we have violins playing in our hearts every time we think of her character, Chandni. Sporting colourful and billowing saris throughout the film, she is nothing short of graceful across the board. Definitely one for the Bollywood history books!

e) Priyanka Chopra in Dustan
Didn't think we forgot the desi girl trademark, did you? And how could we, with her being everywhere across the world right now? Priyanka Chopra gave the demure sari a sexy makeover in Dostana, and had us all feeling like the sexiest desi girls in any room! That beige sari paired with a smoky eye look is outfit goals even 8 years after the movie came out. Talk about making a mark! If you are inspired by these bombshells to get on the sari train yourself, then we have you covered. Shop the edit below for some amazing sari style options!

Who said a choli is the only thing you can pair with a lehenga? We say treat your lehenga more like a beautiful maxi skirt, and pair it with something a little "hatke"!

One idea is to pair it with a crop top. This still retains some of the ethnic vibe as it's similar to a choli, but since the design of the crop top would be more western, it gives the whole outfit a more Indo-western vibe. Stick to a basic black crop top so that the embroidery on your lehenga does all the talking. To up the badass quotient further, pair the outfit with boots!

You can also get a shirt (take a loose one from your own wardrobe, or swipe one from dad's!), leave the bottom three buttons open, and tie it in a knot. Makes for the perfect fusion look when paired with a lehenga!

If you still want to keep with the ethnic theme and still switch it up, ditch the choli and get an anarkali made to go with your lehenga instead. This makes for a perfect outfit for festive occasions, and will give you that regal, Mughal vibe.
