The movers and shakers of the fashion and entertainment industry dolled up for last night's CFDA Fashion Awards in New York where Beyonce took home the coveted Fashion Icon Award. Taking to the podium in a striped Givenchy suit, the star made sure to thank her mom and Uncle Johnny who designed and handmade each of Destiny's Child's first costumes.

Other significant moments from the evening? Marc Jacobs was named the Womenswear Designer of the Year and late music and fashion icon David Bowie was given The Board of Directors' Special Tribute Award.

Scroll through our gallery to see which stars ruled the roost on the CFDA Fashion Awards 2016 red carpet! Hint: Karlie Kloss, Irina Shayk, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Emily Ratajkowski were among them...

@nadiaharding I'm not sure that look is an easy one to pull off but at least she got the colour scheme right!

On adore.

On s’y croirait.

Having bagged 11 nominations, Kendrick Lamar walked out of the 58th Grammy Awards last night with a whopping five of them in tow including those for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album and Best Music Video.

Undoubtedly the star of the night, Kendrick's live performance of The Blacker the Berry and Alright from his album To Pimp A Butterfly was praised by news outlets as the highlight of the evening.

Winning several a Grammy herself as predicted, Taylor Swift emerged victorious in the face of Kanye West's "misogynistic" lyrics in Famous. Accepting her award for Album of the Year, Tay Tay told the crowd: "I want to say to all the young women out there - there are going to be people along the way who are going to try and undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame."

Rightly or wrongly, rival nominee Tori Kelly appeared angered at Taylor's claiming of the award for the second time and had a serious case of sour grapes as she stared on at the leggy star as she gave her acceptance speech.

Lady Gaga's tribute to David Bowie was also a treat; the performance (lasting over six minutes long) may have been effects heavy but was dubbed "experimental" and "multisensory." The Bad Romance singer performed a medley of Changes, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City and Rebel Rebel.

Over the weekend, media outlets reported that Labyrinth (1986) - featuring David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King and Jennifer Connelly as Sarah Williams - would be getting a reboot.

Confused about whether "reboot" meant remake or a sequel, bewildered fans awaited more news while expressing outrage over the poorly timed announcement given Bowie's recent passing.

However, screenwriter Nicole Perlman (known for Guardians of the Galaxy) whose name was attached to the project by news outlets, claims she has "no interest" in remaking the cult movie. Taking to Twitter, she posted: "Guys, please don't fall for all the clickbait. No one is remaking Labyrinth. That movie is perfect as it is."

She told Guardian Australia: "All I can say is that the timing for the story was awful; it felt like a punch in the gut... Bowie's music helped me through some of the hardest times in my life. I respect him as a musician, an actor, an icon and, most importantly, a human being. It would have been a dream come true, to write something for him."

Entertainment Weekly now claims the new film will be a sequel and not a reboot... whatever that means.

David Bowie was one of those people who could seamlessly transition from decade to decade and still be relevant, which is all the more reason why his death today is so poignant.

Incredible artist, fashion icon, legend, these words hardly do him justice. Looking back over his career in order to try and whittle down the most defining moments, this is apparent.

A tribute to one of the greatest rock gods of our time, here's 10 times David Bowie absolutely smashed the scene...

1. Ziggy Stardust: Very few artists today would commit to adopting a whole new persona as part of his latest fashion reinvention. Bowie even gave him a backstory and a suicide to match.

2. Aladdin Sane: The master of disguise, Bowie revealed his next character in typical loud fashion- the now much copied lightening bolt look.

3. Jareth in Labyrinth: How we felt for Sarah being taken in by the Goblin King, oh and how we loved the 80s mullet and makeup Bowie sported here!

4. Mural Attraction: Born in Brixton, London a mural was drawn for him near his old house to honour his work.

5. Famous Friends: He has many, but attending the 17th Annual Grammy Awards with John Lennon and Yoko Ono was one of the most intriguing.

6. Second Marriage: Marries Somali-American model Iman in 1992 and they have two children.

7. Inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame: In 1996 he received this accolade, with Madonna collecting the award on his behalf.

8. Life on Mars: The ludicrously popular track got something of a renaissance when it featured as the theme tune for a new BBC series of the same name. A whole new generation of fans were born.

9. 'Chubby Little Fat Man': Bowie showing off his humorous side appearing in Ricky Gervais' Extras will go down in history as one of the cringiest moments ever broadcast.

10. Releases his final album. To mark his 69th birthday, Bowie releases Lazarus- a fitting swansong, although we didn't realise it at the time.

With news of David Bowie's passing yesterday, designers showing on the last day of LC:M flocked to pay the style icon tribute. Given Bowie's profound influence on fashion, the face of Burberry's SS16 campaign Hayett McCarthy walked the runway with Bowie's name splashed across her open palms.

The fashion houses' AW16 mens collection show also featured music by the legendary singer before and after the show - "Changes" and "Oh You Pretty Things." Other models wore Ziggy Stardust inspired glitter under their eyes; a last minute make-up decision based on the news of Bowie's passing.

Sir Paul Smith displayed a framed picture of himself and Bowie at his presentation while also sharing the image on Instagram with the caption "With great sympathy."

Katie Eary's AW16 collection drew inspiration from The Sacred Triangle - Bowie, Iggy & Lou 1971-1973, a documentary showing the era in which Bowie worked closely with Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. The finished line-up featured crushed velvet jackets, silver trousers and silk shirts.
