They say old is gold and well, it surely is but not always! When it comes to trends, most of them become outdated over a period of time! What we need to do is either evolve them to suit the present -- and that's exactly what we are here to talk about.

We have curated a list of beauty rules that you need to break right now because they are outdated, sorry not sorry!

The old rule #1
Gloss is only for your lips

Why to break it When they walked the ramp with glossy eyelids, we immediately knew what was to come! Using gloss on the eyelids is a new trend that we love and believe is here to stay! However, caution needs to be taken as glossy can very easily become sticky, which is a put off! Use multiple products like eyeshadow, vaseline, eyeshadow brushes to get this style right.

The old rule #2
Brick-red lipstick is for older women

Why to break it Well, with a vintage dress on, hair tied in a plat and deep-red lipstick on your lips, anyone is to guess your age to be above 35. But no more. Deep-red lips are just as sexy as the shade of Ruby Woo you love and practice wearing it to a normal evening out with friends with a more rugged outfit! Sneakers, denims, dresses or skirts, this trend will go with absolutely anything.

The old rule #3
Coloured hair is for teenagers

Why to break it If you're a 90s kid you'd know why most people think coloured hair is for teenagers! Our pop culture back then expected youngsters to don crazy bright pink or electric blue hair colour which was a rage among the punk community. But no more, no more! Take inspiration from some of our Hollywood celebs and take a leap of faith.

The old rule #4
Eyebrows should be thin, thread-like

Why to break it: If we had thick eyebrows in school, changes were people would hate on us for being totally out of style. However, the game has changed completely and what's trending now are thick, lush eyebrows that are shaped to perfection. Actually, the thicker, the better -- take a cue from Cara Delevingne.

The old rule #5
Always apply foundation before concealer

How to break it: If you're a working professional, you probably know how difficult it is to put makeup on every morning!

They always say, foundation first, then concealer, then everything else and blend blend blend; but let's be honest, this rule should only apply to all the on-screen appearances and important evening outs. If you're struggling with dark circles or blemishes but have a flawless skin otherwise, wear a coat on concealer on those areas, apply BB cream on the remaining part and blend! This way, your skin can breathe.

Our list below will help you break the old rules! So go ahead and splurge..

There’s nothing like a bit of mystery, and the new underlights hair trend certainly comes with the element of surprise!

Underlights are a way to hide your multi-coloured hair under a top layer of a more neutral colour. Watch the video above to find out what we mean!

Whether you just like to surprise people or need to keep up a conservative appearance at work, underlights let you be creative, colourful and fun while still allowing you to tone-down when you feel like it.

Now we’ll always be wondering whether that girl in the office with the thick, jet-black hair is hiding a more colourful style underneath!

Pop sensation Justin Bieber has posted a series of selfies on Instagram showing off his new purple hair! Giving ombre hair colour a go, the 21-year-old's new 'do appears darker towards the back with a lighter, lilac shade at the front.

In other Bieber news, Hayley Baldwin's dad Stephen has hinted to TMZ that Justin and his leggy daughter aren't in fact an item. When bombarded by paparazzi at LAX, the star said "They're just friends."

Despite having spent New Year's together with his family in Anguilla and St. Barts with Justin posting a picture of the two of them kissing, is it possible that he and Hayley have simply hit it and quit it?

We knew Tinder had a celeb following, but didn't realise former Disney teen queen and squeaky clean starlet Hilary Duff had signed up!

That said, it's not looking like she's hoping to find true love: "I don't know if it's going to happen on Tinder...I wouldn't turn it down if I was actually, genuinely into a guy and thought he was good for me and we had a serious connection. I'm not just totally joking around, but I'm also not taking it very seriously."

This is the latest in a long list of changes Duff has made since filing for divorce, which includes dyeing her hair green and adopting a cooler, more boho style. She's also been spotted at the gym more regularly; well that beach body ain't going to create itself is it?!
