Now that summer’s here, it’s time to give your warm-weather wardrobe an overhaul. There are a few rules stylish men swear by when it comes to building a half-decent summer capsule and they are as follows…

Go tonal

Shades of blue will always complement one another and the same goes for bright summer tones like red, pink and yellow too. With a few options at your disposal, there’ll always be an opportunity to switch up your look with minimal fuss.

Statement piece

Every summer line-up should boast a healthy dose of print. Opt for cool patterned shorts and a few printed shirts and pair both with pared-down pieces in complementary tones.

Double up

A classic white tee or light shirt is the foundation of a holiday wardrobe, and they come in pretty handy when the sun decides to shine at home too. Invest in a few identical styles to mix and match with your tonal and statement pieces and you’ll always be prepared for a sunny day.

Cool off

Swap your leather shoes for a pair of breezy canvas trainers – ideal for kicking it on a city break, roaming the wilderness or just straight chilling. Our go-to is Superga, who offer up a ton of cotton canvas styles that were basically invented for summer.

Elevate it

Lend your look a little polish with a tan leather belt, low-key sunnies and a statement watch – just make sure it’s waterproof before you hit the pool.

Whether you're a fan or not unicorn makeup is having a serious moment. Long associated with music festival culture it describes anything pastel or holographic applied with some elementary school enthusiasm. The key theme here is fantasy and creativity and the freedom to interpret it as you wish. Today we have one more reason to sport this uncanny makeup as it's National Unicorn Day which is celebrated in the US and the UK, so it's the perfect day to get out the glitter and immerse in anything rainbow.

Many brands and beauty companies are taking their piece of the pie by releasing countless unicorn products from brushes to palettes and colours. If you simply search Unicorn Beauty you'll come across a series of iridescent, and fantasy-inspired goodies.

UNICORN MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Everything starts with a great blank canvas, so begin by applying a base to smooth and clear your complexion. Next, take that concealer to cover dark circles and treat blemishes. Use your fingers so it's absorbed better from the skin. Now it's time to throw on some shades. Don't be colour shy. Using a blue pencil apply it to the back of your hand and transfer to the corner of your eye towards the middle of your lid. To set it, go over each colour with the same shade of powder with a fluffy blush.

Take an iridescent shadow to draw along the inner corner using an eyeliner brush. Now take a pink eyeliner pencil and draw along the bottom waterline. Define your eyes with a swipe of black mascara on top lashes and use a bold blue for your bottom lashes. Now that you're done with your eye makeup put it all together with a candy pink lipstick that works well with most complexions and also with whichever hue you may choose for your eyes.

From double denim to all denim. Boiler suits are definitely having a moment - does anyone think it might be to do with Orange is the New Black? Just me that's coveting an orange jumpsuit? Whatever the reason for their resurgence into the fashion sphere I am not complaining. I think what's so great about this in denim is that with trainers you're ready for a casual brunch and shopping outfit but throw on some heels and statement jewellery - I'd opt for a bold green or red - and you can head off to drinks or dinner. It is insanely versatile. A denim canvas for you to infuse your personality onto. I love this Alexa Chung oversized boiler suit. It's not a steal at £375 but you can imagine the quality would keep you wearing this look for years. Image: Alexachung.com

I am absolutely, definitely, certainly obsessed with this new micro trend! You don’t have to go to far off your budget to try this new style. D-ring belts are everywhere and with one small touch it adds a “cool” look to your outfit. Try it over your blazer or with your boyfriend jeans, it has the same effect no matter what you pair it with. These canvas belts became a trend thanks to the yellow off-white belt and now this style has been copied by every brand for every budget. #belt #trend #microtrend #style #offwhite #fashion #streetwear #streetstyle

‘Life in plastic, it’s fantastic” sang Aqua in the Nineties hit ‘Barbie Girl’ but we’d definitely disagree now that some horrifying evidence and stats have come to more prominent light. A recent Refinery 29 article revealed that plastic takes at least 450 years to break down after reaching the sea: even if it’s ground down into tiny pieces. That means ecosystems are affected as wildlife eat and/or get stuck in it and the food chain too because fish and salt can contain plastic traces as well. Just let that sink in for a moment and consider the fact that almost everything is packaged in or made more durable using plastic- food, beauty products, clothes… You can’t say the environmentalists didn’t warn us.

If you’re wondering how you can reduce your plastic consumption, you’re already doing it. The 5p charge for plastic bags in the UK that you probably curse when you forget your canvas bag at home has already seen a 83% drop in usage since 2015. And plastic microbeads formerly found in cosmetics are banned. Iceland became the world's first supermarket to ban plastic packaging this week. Next up is a possible ‘latte levy’: a 25p charge on single use coffee cups which are apparently plastic-lined and therefore not biodegradable. Pret’s offering a 50p discount if you bring your own cup for your morning hot beverage and other companies have followed suit. Don’t forget about plastic water bottles either, and soon the straw in your cocktail or milkshake will disappear or be paper instead of plastic as more business ban them.

To fight plastic pollution more proactively, we’ve rounded the best reusable cups, straws and bottles around right now in our edits below.

As opposed to the dark and smoky vibes of nighttime and party makeup, daytime makeup is more subdued. You would ideally want to look fresh faced and awake, and packing on too much product. And of course, in the heat of the Indian sun, you want to use long lasting products which won't melt away over time. We have compiled a list of the daytime makeup tips for you, so you can look amazing with minimal effort!

1) Skincare is the key
Any painting requires a cared for and clean canvas, and the same applies to makeup and your skin. Use a traditional cleanser-toner-moisturizer-sunscreen routine every morning before you put on your makeup for the day, and you'll instantly find your makeup applying more smoothly and evenly.

2) Less is more
It's all about restraint when it comes to day makeup. Instead of a full coverage liquid foundation that might look a little heavy, mix a few drops of foundation or BB cream into your moisturiser for a light and even finish with a healthy glow. Top with a light dusting of powder foundation for extra coverage. If you feel like you still need more coverage, use a skin toned concealer and a detail brush to spot conceal any blemishes or imperfections.

3) Aim for a soft focus glow
If you want a little more glam in your life, then remember to be smart about it. Try and avoid overly glittery products, so you don't catch the sunlight like a disco ball! Instead, opt for creamy products that have a natural sheen, which will blur out your skin and give a healthy glow to it.

4) Blush it up
When you first wake up, your skin can look a little lifeless and drained. So while applying your makeup, don't forget to put on a light light layer of any matte peachy blush. This will bring some colour back to the face, and will help the skin look healthy throughout the day.

5) Brighten the eyes
Add a nude or skin toned liner to the waterlines of your eyes, and pop on some lengthening mascara to make yourself look wide awake and ready to seize the day. For an extra pop of glam, add an eyeshadow with a sheen to the inner corner of the eyes. Your eyes will look wider and brighter, which is exactly what you need!

Notting Hill Carnival is having its 50th anniversary this Bank Holiday weekend, which means one thing- it'll be bigger then ever! Carnival is a lot of fun, a celebration of London's diverse cultures and a time where we all come together. However, with 2 million people attending every year, it pays off to be in the know and organised.

1. When is it on?

Carnival starts on Sunday the 28th of August (known as 'children's day') and continues into Monday the 29th of August.

2. Where is it?

If you can't tell by the name, Notting Hill. It spreads through W10 from Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park.

3. Transport

Transport to Carnival is tricky, so pay close attention. Notting Hill Gate is exit only from 11am-7pm, so arriving isn't difficult but getting home can be. Royal Oak is exist only from 11am-6pm, and closed after 6pm on Monday. Westbourne Park is exit only from 11am-6pm. Bayswater and Paddington operate normally, but are a little further away. Other stations nearby at High Street Kensington, Holland Park, Queen's Park, Kensal Rise, Kensal Park and Shepherd's Bush.

There are no buses entering the Carnival area from Sunday until Tuesday morning, but the operate from Prince of Wales on Harrow Road and beyond.

4. Which day should I go to?

Sunday starts off a little more relaxed, with the Jouvert procession happening early from 6am until 9am. If you have children this is the best day to go to, but don't be fooled, the carnival still gets very rowdy so if that isn't suitable for you then leave in the early evening.

Monday is the main day, with the main parade moving slowly around the area. This is the full-on party day, so be prepared for a little chaos but a lot of fun!

5. Money

As to be expected with such a massive horde of people, crime happens. So try not to carry a load of cash on you, or atlas keep it safe. That being said, the cash machines run out very quickly, so be prepared so you're not stranded. Or worse, sober.

6. Food

Carnival food is incredible, with a plethora of Caribbean stools. There are veggie options around, so don't worry if you're not a meat eater.

7. Is it dangerous?

Every year there are stories of crime, but really it isn't that dangerous. With 2 million people there will be some crime, but the police patrol the area very well and the crime rate is generally very low. Just be street wise, don't take valuables, keep your phone/money/cameras in a bag that isn't accessible and stay with friends. This is the biggest tip, don't lose the people you came with- as you probably won't find them again. The signal is bad, and there are so many people that it's a nightmare if you split up from the group. To be safe, arrange a designated meeting point with your friends!

8. Is it super crowded?

Yup, it's extremely crowded. And rowdy. And fun. If you get anxious or claustrophobic, there are areas that are less busy- or arrive earlier when it's less crowded.

9. What do I wear?

Something bright and fun. We've got you covered for this, scroll down and shop our ultimate carnival edit...

10. Pre and after parties

There are loads, like Boombox Carnival special at The Horse and groom on Saturday, Faded at Coronet on Monday , the Shoreditch Carnival after party at Canvas on Sunday. If there's one thing you won't need to worry about, it's partying.

It’s that time of the year again and you might want to start tucking away your favourite pair of expensive shoes because they are not rain friendly. While your leather and canvas shoes can wait to be worn until the next season, you don’t have to quit being a fashionista this season. If you’re still wondering how, here’s a list of footwear you must try to be convinced.

Sandals that don’t disappoint
Yes, you don’t have to make fashion blunders just because you can’t wear your favourite shoes for a couple of months. Try rubber sandals this season and if you’re off to an event – why not look at some platform sandals that match the same level of class as your pumps?!

Flip-flops
These are an absolute must! In fact, we believe everybody should always keep a pair of these in their bags in case of unspeakable emergencies that most of us dread in this weather.

Hipster gumboots
Not only are they the best footwear to don this season, but also can be very stylish on casualwear. Wear them on denims or leggings and to add the element of style and consider investing in some fun, colourful ones so you don’t get another chance to miss your leather brogues. Still not convinced? Take a look at our edit down below for some stylish yet durable rainy footwear you should give a try.

The sun is out and the temperature is up, but that doesn’t mean you have to quit being stylish. Staying comfy whilst being dressed like Dapper Dan can be tricky, take advice from out fav celebs who show us how rock great outfits in this sultry weather.

• Shirt on tee on shorts This age-old trend is every man’s favourite. Team up your cotton or linen shirts with comfy tees over beige shorts or denims and you’re good to go. Printed shirts over plain tees can be donned for a more stylish look.

• Comfy blazer Invest in a summer blazer for those formal events where wearing just a shirt or t-shirt isn’t enough. Or alternate that with a comfy yet elegant hoodie. Dapper Dan Ranveer shows us how.

• Go light or go bright This season is all about fun bright colours and classic neutrals – everything in-between is boring and dull. Pair your neutrals with more neutrals for a sophisticated look or go all bright with fun solid colours for that oomph factor.

• Prints on prints This trend has proved itself worthy of a mention by coming back in the limelight time and again. Try on a printed blazer on a printed tee or simply match printed pants with shirts – we assure you, if done properly, you can’t go wrong with this one. Ranveer Singh agrees.

• Accessorize Yes!! Pull out those hats, scarves and ties to jazz up your outfits. Additional backpacks of all kinds are a plus. Wait, are we forgetting something here? You simply can’t miss out on shoes and we suggest opting for comfy canvas brogues to finish the look.
