YouTuber Jenn Im looked phenomenal at Revolve Festival at the weekend. My favourite piece would definitely have to be the rainbow coloured bardot top! #ootd #jennim #revolvefestival #bloggerstyle #tularosalabel Photo Credit: @imjennim on Twitter

It seems as if since the beginning of time a magic fairy godmother awarded all French women with effortless style and elegance. From 60's Brigitte Bardot to Vanessa Paradis and Jeanne Damas there's no denying that Parisian chic is very specific yet unattainable. But what does that mean for the rest of us? We here at Shopcade have aimed to dissect the authentic French style and follow a few simple rules to nail it this Spring?

Beauty & Hair

The first rule of the School of French style is that there simply are no general rules. Developing your individual style is part of the process. This process never fails to involve mineral toning water, eye cream and a great SPF cream. A thorough beauty routine with quality products makes all the difference for French women as they wear minimal make up. "I only wear red lipstick everyday, "said Jeanne Damas in a recent interview for Man Repeller. French girls emphasize on taking care of their skin instead of covering it up with endless layers of make up. They wear little foundation, use hair spray for a sexy out of bed look and have a signature scent!

Show off your Pins

Baring your legs as much as possible like French style blogger Camille Charriére is another Parisian staple. Sport your mini summer dresses, vinyl red skirts, LBDs or uber chic culottes which are basically very cool and elegant ways to nail French chic.

Where Did You Get That Shirt?

All Parisian girls own a great white shirt in their wardrobe as it's ultimately versatile and oh so chic. You can literally pair it with anything that may hang in your wardrobe: from jean bell bottoms to a pencil skirt, a pair of denim shorts, with smart trousers at the office even worn loosely over your swimsuit at the beach. Go for a white crisp shirt fitted or oversized and try a Breton design - another French girl favourite.

Quality outerwear

Even though we're in July we can recognise a quality outerwear item in all seasons. From a boxy blazer, to an elongating raincoat or a simple rock n roll biker jacket the options are endless.. Take cues from French chic and really look which outerwear items will look best with your wardrobe essentials.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories they should always include a great hat, basket bag, earrings, and a quality watch. Less is definetely more so "Before you leave the house, take a look in the mirror, and take one thing off", as the mother of Parisian chic Coco Chanel used to say.

Style icons

Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Vanessa Paradis and Clemence Poesy are among many of the greats. For new sources of inspiration, follow Parisian blogger Camille Charrière, Jeanne Damas, Camille Rowe, Lily Rose Depp and Louise Follain on Instagram.

Scroll down below and see how you can nail French style this Spring!

Berets are seriously trending at the moment but the truth is that they have been around for a long time. They are one of those undeniable timeless pieces and have long been associated with style icons like Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy.

Nowadays style influencers like Pandora Sykes, Yoyo Cao and Miroslava Dumas as well as big time celebrities like Rihanna and Adwoa Aboah are bringing back and thus cementing the popularity of the beret. The beret has also been linked to the French elegance and sense of style but this time the Parisian je ne sais quoi got a makeover.

A surge of berets has popped up recently from designers and high street retailers alike. Take Maria Grazia Chiuri, for example, the Creative Director at Dior who commissioned milliner Stephen Jones to design leather berets.

Berets have also become sort of a staple piece at Gucci. Alessandro Michele has expanded on the classic black beret by introducing a variety of bright colours, and most unlikely textures. And even after this season's Cybord extravaganza the classic allure of the beret remained stronger than ever

Whatever your style and mood this season amp up your look with a cool sleek beret.

Browse through our exclusive edit of the best high street and designer berets on the market below!

Brigitte Bardot was sexy and elegant in equal parts. She was known, of course, for that sleek cat-eye - I wonder if she ever struggled to get those flicks even. And that hair. I'm sure Brigitte never struggled to get that perfect bouffant. Her hair always looked totally effortless. Pinned up or left to flail, Brigitte had the most chic hair and who wouldn't want to bring that back? Image: Getty

Flashback to the 60s! Brigitte Bardot is influencing what we wear yet again in 2018. Her name is an icon from bardot tops to bardot dresses and now bardot bandanas. Hair accessories are major in 2018 and bandanas are on the top of the list. If you’re having a bad hair day, these bandanas will save the day. Opt for the bold coloured ones to stand-out from the crowd. This trend is just perfect for your throwback thursday looks! #tbt #throwback #flashback #sixties #brigittebardot #style #trend #streetstyle #fashion #hairstyle #hairaccessories

This is a great 90’s inspired look. I love the Bardot style printed top, which gives a nod to modern fashion trends. A baker boy style hat is a fabulous accessory choice too! #ootd #motelrocks #fashion #outfitinspo Photo Credit: @MotelRocks on Twitter

Who said that you had to leave the denim items in your wardrobe only for casual occasions? Just like the early naughties, the party jeans are gaining back their reputation as capable LBD alternatives. Emily Ratajkowski certainly thinks so. She sported a pair of straight legged denim jeans with ripped hems with an ethereal silky embroidered kimono by The Kooples to add a bit of glam to the outfit.

She wanted to add a bit more definition and sparkle to her evening look so she placed a pearl and crystal belt around her waist. She put her hair in a half - up Bardot-esque do for the ultimate effortless sexy result. She finished off the look with a pair of black heeled sandals and a leopard print bag.

For a more comprehensive evening look go for a sequinned black top, and pair it with a belt over the knee black boots and a bright coloured tote bag.

Let the top speak for itself and go for a statement off the shoulder ruffled top and pair it with mules and a cute leather clutch.

Channel your inner Victorian vibe and go for the appropriate volume sleeved shirt, soft leather mules and an embroidered drawstring bag. Ready to sport your denim this weekend?

Bob? Nope this year its Lob! I’m not just saying this because I cut my hair in a lob, although it may have a little bit influence… Yes, lob is the haircut of 2018. “Long hair don’t care” is out of the picture. Look at all of the A-list celebs. They have one thing in common; the lob. Not as short as a bob but a bit longer… It is perfect for anyone who isn’t ready to say goodbye to their long locks as well as for anyone who wants to try a new look. This hairstyle can be worn in many ways from braids to a pony tail, to curly and even straight. It also looks perfect with any face shape. I love how Kendall Jenner styles her lob. She opts for a neck foulard that gives her the French vibes. Or a bardot top that shows her wonderful locks. Hop on the trend before you see everyone in a lob! #lob #hair #hairstyle #kendalljenner #bob #style #trend
