Louisa Drake is a force to be reckoned with. A fitness expert, business founder and a serious source of lifestyle inspo, Louisa recently launched LDM, a fitness and lifestyle brand built on the principles of her own inclusive training method and her no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

We caught up with her to find out more about LDM, her motivations and of course, her style both in and out of the studio…

So how does your method work? How can LDM sessions influence your lifestyle?

At LDM we focus on body confidence and effective training techniques that educate clients on what their individual bodies need. My Method offers a host of fitness disciplines – cardio, conditioning, resistance and stretch – to keep the mind and body guessing and strengthen the muscles you use daily.

Our whole approach is to encourage confidence, so the Fitzrovia and Muswell Hill studios are a welcoming space where our instructors will calmly guide you through a class, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and well worked, but never worked up and stressed.

Who can take part in LDM classes?

LDM classes are accessible to anyone, regardless of their experience, fitness level, shape or size. We have two boutique studios in London, where you can access small group classes and private training daily. We also have LDM online video subscriptions and range of fitness equipment and apparel for taking part at home.

What inspired you to launch LDM – tell us about your journey...

After a professional dance career I started to transition into teaching dance and fitness. I was known for my unique style and had several disciplines under my belt but I realised there was something lacking from the workouts I was doing as a client at other gyms and studios.

I saw a gap for doing things my way and created LDM. After combining the best bits of popular disciples such as yoga, HIIT, Pilates to name just a few I created my signature total body workout that ticks all the boxes in one session – the Shape Changer, the perfect balance of cardio and conditioning material.

Next month we celebrate our first birthday at our Fitzrovia studio which offers a range of LDM classes that are constantly being fine tuned to suit our clients’ needs.

What does the word ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness really sums up being at your optimal best physically and mentally. For me it’s about finding the right balance – time to focus on my changing needs, to honour my own rhythms and have the energy to achieve everything I need.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

My clients. Most mornings I’m either up early teaching group classes or I’m with a private client. The occasion I have a morning free, I’ll top up on sleep or schedule some time for myself on the mat.

How important do you think physical health is to how happy and confident we feel?

Massively important. It should be the main reason you choose to work out and aesthetics are the bonus. The natural high we get from exercise is what keeps you committed.

What about fashion and style – can what we wear make us happy?

Absolutely, wearing something that helps you feel happy will be the reason your posture improves which will then be part of the reason your confidence improves and you carry yourself differently. You can express yourself through fashion and your own unique take on it.

What are your feel-good outfits for work, the weekend and going out?

I spend a lot of time in activewear and when I'm working out and training clients it’s all about supportive, feel-good fabrics. I select a sweat-wicking product that’s going to work hard for me when I’m back to back and versatile items that mean after a quick change I’m ready to go from studio to meeting.

When I’m off-duty it’s a mix of denim, fun prints, slogan tees and a vintage feel is always present in my style. For going out I add some standout accessories, switch a trainer for shoe and opt for a dress or cool jumpsuit.

What about your favourite brands?

Activewear brands such as Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Lucas Hugh, Nike and Adidas keep me supported and stylish. For tees and sweaters I like British brand Double Trouble Gang – we collaborated on some limited edition LDM sweaters & hoodies. I also love brands such as Etre Cecile and Sezane for an injection of fun prints and slogan pieces.

Free People, Reformation, ADAY, Faithfull the brand, Ganni and the Vampire’s Wife are labels I gravitate towards. I have some great jackets from Zoe Karssen, Whistles and Acne and my accessories are a mix of high street, vintage and investment pieces from Hill and Friends, Sezane, Laura Lee and Missoma.

I’m often in trainers by Adidas, Nike and APL and I’m currently loving the Stella McCartney x Adidas Parley shoes made from recycled ocean plastics – they work for all cardio based workouts. Veja make eco-friendly Parisian cool trainers that I like for off-duty and I also like Russell & Bromley, Birkenstock, Soludos, Hobbs and Miu Miu.

What’s next for you and for LDM?

Plans are underway to open a bigger standalone LDM studio in London where clients can still benefit from small boutique group fitness and private training with more space and amenities. We have some exciting opportunities in the pipeline and I’m working hard to build up our online LDM video offerings, so we are accessible not just in London but anywhere and at anytime. Watch this space…

This may be the year of the Scrunchie return. In addition to the recent scrunchie craze, there's an equal craving for over-the-top headbands in bold colours like red and royal blue. Those kindergarten hair-accessories are inspired by a need to return to a more naive era but in all honesty, they're just a fun way to accessorise.

Fashion followers have welcomed back one of the most polarising accessories of the past few decades. In the 90s and naughties, there was a common consensus that scrunchies are dated even kitsch. They led a life as a definitive faux pas by the mainstream culture but were also considered hipster material by labels like American Apparel or Retro Vintage.

But recently, scrunchies have been resurfacing as a bonified trend, a runoff effect of the 80s  revival. The renaissance trend of the 80s is about to become fully adopted by popping up to various collections. For example, Urban Outfitters has offered a wide display of different types of scrunchies varying from velvet to satin. Over at Balenciaga, their chouchou versions are made from lambskin and priced at almost $200.

Amidst the emerging scrunchies craze, a new luxe scrunchie brand was introduced. Comfort Objects is an accessories label based in Denmark that transforms vintage Hermès scarves into silk scarves, priced at $112. Insta - favourite Ganni adored for the rainbow stripes jumper, white cowboy boots and polka dot pieces presented his own scrunchie offering. Just this week, blogger Camille Charriere snapped a mirror selfie sporting a red floral scrunchie from the Copenhagen brand costing no more than $20.

Match the scrunchie pattern with your dress for maximum effect or opt for a red accessory to tie in the outfit. These accessories are best employed with a muted outfit like a creme coloured victorian blouse jeans and flats.

Dressing up for Saint Patrick's Day is no easy feat. You could do something as easy as throwing on a few necklaces and a rainbow shirt, but it's difficult to feel chic in that apparel. This year we want to scrap everything that says Saint Patrick's Day holiday overboard and instead try something we could actually wear on any day of the year.

Here are a few of our favourite Saint Patricks Day Style Tips:

1. HAT ADDICTION

Since no Saint Patricks' Day celebration can evade the green hat, why not make it a fashionable one? Simply sport one of the season's favourites - the velvet beret- in a very fitting forest green hue. Now, you're ready to celebrate with elegance.

2. STRIPE ENVY

If you want to channel the party mood without looking like a green clown, go bananas for stripes. A unique blend of different sized stripes in green can infuse the right amount of celebratory mood. No need to go overboard.

3. GREEN NEUTRAL

If you feel hesitant about the deep greens why not go for a more natural shade? For example, try a neutral or khaki green hue and strategically organise the outfit around your main colour choice.

4. NEON GREEN

Go to the other side of the spectrum and opt for a neon shade of green which is a real head-turner. Don't go over-the-top, instead, add it in small details like your ankle boots or handbag.

5. MATCH IT

Stick to one shade of green and match it head-to-toe. Then, add a cool accessory like a leopard pair of heels or bag to spice up the outfit.

6. BLEND TRENDS

Throw on your perfect blanket scarf, or puffer jacket and give a fresh perspective to your basic Saint Patrick's Day green outfit. Add some athleisure for maximum effect. The combination of trend and celebratory items will result in a much more comprehensive outfit that you can wear anywhere.

7. ADD SOME TEXTURE

Experiment by adding some interesting materials that will give depth to your outfit like leather, velvet or corduroy. As a result, the look will be more relevant and less costumey.

Emma Watson, Stella McCartney and Olivia Wilde don't have to convince you about the benefits of embracing ethical fashion. Sustainable fashion means making ethical decisions throughout the entire production process.

This is an issue gaining global attention especially after the Rana Plaza factory in 2013 injuring at least 2,500 workers. Now there's a deeper demand for transparency and more sustainable options have become available as a result. This expansion in product offerings includes athletic wear. #000000">For example brands like Alternative Apparel and YOOXYGEN brands like Studio 189 and PRABAL GURUNG.

Super-cosy hoodies, slacks and leggings that you can sport confidently knowing that they are made ethically. Make sure the brand that you support is committed to a traceable supply chain, ethical trade and sustainable materials, and that all garments are made in eco-label approved factories.

Many brands ethos means using natural resources responsibly by reusing and recycling materials even coffee. Yes, there are leggings made of recycled coffee waste mesh fabric that you would never think twice about the origin of the material. The odour can give it away but after a few washes, you'll never even know that your perfect pair of workout leggings were made from coffee.

After the success of Yeezy Season 3 everyone had high hopes for his AW16 show, however those in attendance were left disappointed after the show dominated their day (one of the busiest days of the year for the industry). The show was postponed by an hour, guests had to take an hour and a half bus ride to the venue, and there was no shade despite the heat.

The collection wasn't a breath of fresh air, more like deja vu. Oversized hoodies, parkas, sports bra esqu tops, knit tank dresses all in pale, muted colours worn with the same boots we've seen for the last 4 Yeezy seasons. Don't get us wrong, it's a good look, and flattering. But it's what we've seen the Kardashian girls wear a hundred times. He's a designer, that means having a definitive style which incorporates and leads the new season's trends. Yes it's a wearable collection, and very Instagramable, but it would fit in more on the rails of American Apparel than on the catwalk.

The biggest controversy wasn't the clothes, it was the crew's treatment of the models. When models fainted due to the heat (some were wearing black hoodies) they received no medical attention or help from staff. Some of the shoes fitted so badly that the models hobbled, and in some cases, took them off, like Amina Blue, Tyga's ex.

There were highlights, mainly in the form of Teyana Taylor who is the star of Kanye's new music video faded. But all in all, it was a sh*t show. Do better, Ye, we know you can.
