Louisa Drake is a force to be reckoned with. A fitness expert, business founder and a serious source of lifestyle inspo, Louisa recently launched LDM, a fitness and lifestyle brand built on the principles of her own inclusive training method and her no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

We caught up with her to find out more about LDM, her motivations and of course, her style both in and out of the studio…

So how does your method work? How can LDM sessions influence your lifestyle?

At LDM we focus on body confidence and effective training techniques that educate clients on what their individual bodies need. My Method offers a host of fitness disciplines – cardio, conditioning, resistance and stretch – to keep the mind and body guessing and strengthen the muscles you use daily.

Our whole approach is to encourage confidence, so the Fitzrovia and Muswell Hill studios are a welcoming space where our instructors will calmly guide you through a class, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and well worked, but never worked up and stressed.

Who can take part in LDM classes?

LDM classes are accessible to anyone, regardless of their experience, fitness level, shape or size. We have two boutique studios in London, where you can access small group classes and private training daily. We also have LDM online video subscriptions and range of fitness equipment and apparel for taking part at home.

What inspired you to launch LDM – tell us about your journey...

After a professional dance career I started to transition into teaching dance and fitness. I was known for my unique style and had several disciplines under my belt but I realised there was something lacking from the workouts I was doing as a client at other gyms and studios.

I saw a gap for doing things my way and created LDM. After combining the best bits of popular disciples such as yoga, HIIT, Pilates to name just a few I created my signature total body workout that ticks all the boxes in one session – the Shape Changer, the perfect balance of cardio and conditioning material.

Next month we celebrate our first birthday at our Fitzrovia studio which offers a range of LDM classes that are constantly being fine tuned to suit our clients’ needs.

What does the word ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness really sums up being at your optimal best physically and mentally. For me it’s about finding the right balance – time to focus on my changing needs, to honour my own rhythms and have the energy to achieve everything I need.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

My clients. Most mornings I’m either up early teaching group classes or I’m with a private client. The occasion I have a morning free, I’ll top up on sleep or schedule some time for myself on the mat.

How important do you think physical health is to how happy and confident we feel?

Massively important. It should be the main reason you choose to work out and aesthetics are the bonus. The natural high we get from exercise is what keeps you committed.

What about fashion and style – can what we wear make us happy?

Absolutely, wearing something that helps you feel happy will be the reason your posture improves which will then be part of the reason your confidence improves and you carry yourself differently. You can express yourself through fashion and your own unique take on it.

What are your feel-good outfits for work, the weekend and going out?

I spend a lot of time in activewear and when I'm working out and training clients it’s all about supportive, feel-good fabrics. I select a sweat-wicking product that’s going to work hard for me when I’m back to back and versatile items that mean after a quick change I’m ready to go from studio to meeting.

When I’m off-duty it’s a mix of denim, fun prints, slogan tees and a vintage feel is always present in my style. For going out I add some standout accessories, switch a trainer for shoe and opt for a dress or cool jumpsuit.

What about your favourite brands?

Activewear brands such as Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Lucas Hugh, Nike and Adidas keep me supported and stylish. For tees and sweaters I like British brand Double Trouble Gang – we collaborated on some limited edition LDM sweaters & hoodies. I also love brands such as Etre Cecile and Sezane for an injection of fun prints and slogan pieces.

Free People, Reformation, ADAY, Faithfull the brand, Ganni and the Vampire’s Wife are labels I gravitate towards. I have some great jackets from Zoe Karssen, Whistles and Acne and my accessories are a mix of high street, vintage and investment pieces from Hill and Friends, Sezane, Laura Lee and Missoma.

I’m often in trainers by Adidas, Nike and APL and I’m currently loving the Stella McCartney x Adidas Parley shoes made from recycled ocean plastics – they work for all cardio based workouts. Veja make eco-friendly Parisian cool trainers that I like for off-duty and I also like Russell & Bromley, Birkenstock, Soludos, Hobbs and Miu Miu.

What’s next for you and for LDM?

Plans are underway to open a bigger standalone LDM studio in London where clients can still benefit from small boutique group fitness and private training with more space and amenities. We have some exciting opportunities in the pipeline and I’m working hard to build up our online LDM video offerings, so we are accessible not just in London but anywhere and at anytime. Watch this space…

If you haven’t already added a handful of vitamin-rich products to your beauty line-up it’s high time you considered it. Whether you opt for a cream, mask, gel or capsule, these are the health-giving heroes you should be looking for…

Vitamin C is loved by beauty buffs for its collage-boosting properties. Fighting free radical damage – caused by UV rays, pollution, smoking and other environmental factors – Vitamin C is your go-to for reversing UV damage and hyperpigmentation. Use your products before applying sunscreen and make up in the morning.

Vitamin E is ideal for preventing dryness as it reduces water loss in your skin cells. It’s also pretty good at defending you from free radicals and calming inflammation. Vitamin E reduces water loss in skin cells, which keeps dryness at bay. Use Vitamin E all day, every day – especially in sunny weather or after a trip to the beach.

Vitamin A is lauded for its ability to strengthen skin cells, reducing wrinkles and helping with skin problems like psoriasis and acne. Encouraging collagen production and shedding old skin cells, save your Vitamin A for your before-bed routine.

Our bodies make Vitamin D naturally when our skin is exposed to the sun but too much sun can lead to skin damage. Maintain the perfect balance and your overall skin health will be impeccable. An anti-inflammatory, Vitamin D stimulates cell turnover and boosts skin elasticity and radiance helping you to get your glow on.

One of the most immediate trends to emerge from fashion month was anything and everything plastic. Whether it was see-through opac black made of PVC or vinyl, plastic interpretations were appearing everywhere during AW18. Think long practical raincoats at Burberry, moto futurism at Valentino or Chanel's chic 1960's see-through version including capes and boots.

Even Yeeze caught in on the trend and presented thigh-high tubular boots. Most designers were looking at the trend ironically, attempting to elevate the plastic fabric which is associated with food preservation to a fashion trend. Kind of like 2010's obsession with trash bags.

Street style was also heavily focused on plastic wear especially when it came to rain gear. Admittedly this trend is challenging to wear IRL even though the synthetic fabric has made its way into our mainstream attire starting from the collections of all our sartorial favourites.#000000">

It was Karl Lagerfeld who truly gave PVC an haute couture dimension not only by the artistry with which he crafted the clothes but also by styling them with modern Chanel tweed suits. They were word under feminine hooded rain capes in plastic, denim jackets and skirts were trimmed with plastic fringe while he created low-heeled boots in clear plastic as a luxury alternative to our common rain boot. Similarly, Demna Gvasalia and Acne Studios opted for sleek plastic raincoats.

This season the trend dominated New York and London alike. Philipp Plein was most experimental by layering faux fur and metallic pieces while Jeremy Scott opted for Space age and taking cues from Barbarella in the 1960's.When it comes to styling, work the trend around your everyday essentials instead of adopting a head-to-toe look.

Take influencer Yoyo Cao's example by layering a transparent overcoat over a classic camel trench, white tee and distressed denim. Try a plastic trench belted with a Gucci belt or simply invest in plastic accessories: From a see-through bag to a hat or boots, there's always a more nuanced way to incorporate plastic in your everyday attire.

Browse through our gallery for more plastic-fantastic inspiration from fashion month and scroll below for our edit of the most eclectic plastic items you need to own!

This week Shopcade turns to influencer and author of the blog 'Ninety Percent Stardust' Rachel Reaney, for an instant fashion and beauty boost. Her blog chronicles her daily life, trends, travels and enviable skin beauty treatments. We caught up with the busy blogger, influencer and Communications professional to talk about creativity, morning routines and exotic destinations.

What compelled you to start your own blog and Instagram account?

I've always chosen photography and fashion as a medium to express myself and Instagram provides the perfect visual platform to do that. Multiple accounts on the platform have not only inspired me personally but have inspired me to start creating and sharing my own content and things that I love.

What do you enjoy most about the creative process?

For me, I really enjoy and find it relaxing to edit photos. I use VSCO to add the final touches to my photos such as adding a vintage grain or warmer tones using a filter. I use an app called Mosaico to plan the layout of my content.

What are the challenges and also the benefits of being a freelance content creator and influencer?

Luckily, I already work in social media so I feel the combination of working with brands as both a consultant and an influencer is very useful, as you can really understand both sides of the equation and how they can partner together in a collaborative way.

What are your non-negotiables regarding your wellness routine?

I'm a skincare junkie and for me feeling good about myself extends to how my skin is behaving. I try to eat lots of vegetables and drink as much water as I can but once a week I'll set aside some time to have some me-only pamper time. I'm currently a fan of beauty brands including Le Labo, The Ouai, Glossier, Nuxe and Rodin.

How would you describe your personal style? Do you have any favourite brands?

For me, I aspire to look low-key yet effortlessly put together. When it comes to my wardrobe I like to mix pieces from high-end designers on Yoox Netaporter such as Acne Studios, Staud and Nanuska with high street staples from Topshop, H&M or the occasional vintage find.

Which are your staples when it comes to dressing up in the morning? It's important to me to be comfortable in whatever I put on.

I tend to favour a good pair of jeans paired with a nude top or ruffled sleeved blouse. I'll then dress this up with gold jewellery and a statement bag.

You're always travelling. Which one of your recent destinations was the most memorable to you and why?

It sounds like a cliche but Oia in Santorini is one of the most beautiful and photogenic places I've ever been to. My next bucket-list destination is a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia.

What are you working on at the moment? Do you have any specific goals for 2018?

Keep on improving! I've recently upgraded my camera and am excited to take my photos to the next level. On a personal note, my goal is also to enjoy the little moments and joys that life brings - most often or not these aren't planned!

Christy Teigen's Best Kept secret is coconut oil and she's not the only coconut connoisseur. You may have tried to employ coconut oil in the kitchen or even enjoy it as part of your bath shower routine. However, the healing and nourishing benefits of coconut have made it an all-around beauty favourite. Try it to moisturise your skin and remove your make up or add a few spoonfuls of coconut butter in a smoothie or dessert. There are many ways in which you can incorporate coconut into your daily routine. Now you can discover how you can make the most out of nature's purest ingredient to improve your wellness and nutrition.

BODY OIL

Apply the solid creamy textured coconut oil and get the perfect light moisturiser. Just slather a small portion on your body after leaving the shower and it will be enough to give you soft skin that glows. Add a few drops of peppermint or almond oil and get the royal spa treatment.

HAIR MASK

While in the shower apply a coconut oil mask and leave it for 15 minutes or longer if you have dry and damaged hair. For a more natural approach try melting your coconut oil by placing the jar under hot water. The mask will instantly moisture hour tired locks and give them extra shine and endurance.

UNDER THE EYES

Our skin under the eyes is quite thin and delicate which is why it's the first facial part that shows signs of ageing. It's also very prone to fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. If you want to avoid spending a hefty sum of money on a very costly cream then invest in coconut oil. After all, Emily Weiss founder of Glossier admitted that more expensive doesn't necessarily mean more effective. Attention: Coconut oil is comedogenic so be aware if you're suffering from acne.

HEALTHY FAT

Although coconut oil is perfect for those late night stir fries when it comes to nutrition go for coconut butter. It's thicker in texture which makes it perfect to spread on toast. You can also use it when making healthy smoothies or as topping for berries. Both coconut oil and coconut butter have both nutritional and metabolism-boosting properties that are amazing for your immune system and for your skin. They are though high in nutritional value, so don't overdo it.

Are you ready to incorporate coconut oil into your everyday routine? Shop the best coconut oil infused products from our edit below and add points to your wellness.

We often find ourselves thinking what would Veronika Heilbrunner do? when it comes to styling boyish beige boots. The German fashion editor, co- founder of hey-woman.com and streetstyle star is renowned for wearing hers come snow, rain or shine and the subversive cool of her unexpected shoe of choice is very evident in her must-follow instagram feed. Chunky and lace-up, they look insanely comfortable- compared to the heels her colleagues are sporting- and add few inches to her modelesque frame. What we’ve learnt by scrolling through is that as casual as these boots may seem, they’ll work wonders with a sequin mini dress on the red carpet too: just like Heilbrunner wore them for the Fashion Awards 2017 back in December. She rarely teams them just with jeans, interestingly enough; and usually veers from pretty dresses to knockout trousers looks making these beige boots her signature touch.

The best thing about Heilbrunner’s boot obsession is that she’s not picky about brands. Timberland’s cult Radford boots are one of her go-tos, banish any thoughts of JLo’s heeled pairs our of your mind, and won’t break the bank. If you’ll willing to spend a little more, Acne and Altuzarra are designer brands she’s stepped out in. Then wear them with everything in your wardrobe- the blonde’s even worn hers with black tights which we weren’t feeling until we saw it on her.

Check out Heilbrunner’s best booted looks above and then shop our edit of the best boyish beige pairs available now.

The red carpet of the Golden Globes, more controversial than ever by the Time's Up movement gave a lot to talk. Beyond the black dresses, there was a theme that transcended: the acne outbreaks of Kendall Jenner. A tweeter user commented that the model looked beautiful even with her acne. To which Jenner replied, "never let that stop you".Credits: Pinterest

With only ten days away from the New Year it's time to say goodbye not only to 2017 but to all the fashion trends we loved and welcome 2018 with open arms. Last year saw the resurgence of many brands, the return of logomania, a bloom of mid-tier designer brands, sparkles, loungewear as daywear, vinyl, reds, and who can forget millennial pink? Now a little wiser we take a look at the trends you'll want to invest for next year!

NEW TRENCHES

Take cues from Loewe SS18 and invest in a trench coat that is a bit different than your classic version. It may feature cutouts, fringing or even alternative colouring to your regular camel hues.

FRINGES ALL AROUND

Speaking of fringing, this is another trend borrowed from previous seasons that is still going strong for 2018. Get inspired by Acne Studios, Diane Von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein and Elie Saab.

CHECK, PLEASE

Yes, the check trend is not going anywhere soon, but like all things, it's growing and getting better. This year, add a few unexpected colours to your usual grey palette and don't hesitate to experiment with textures.

WHITE OUT

Probably influenced by menswear one of the biggest trends for next year will be the all-white-outfit. Think of Jennifer Lopez's outfit in the maid or a simple white blazer and trousers, as an alternative business attire. This is the perfect alternative to 2017's colour suiting.

ANIMAL LOVE

So 2017 saw a boom in animal print with leopard print taking centre stage and brushing off any previous trashy connotations. This year, the animal print expands from leopard print to include snakeskin, animal print patches and it's not only for your shoes and bags but also for trousers or jackets. Have a look at our gallery for more inspiration and shop your favourite styles from our exclusive edit below.
