Some girls always look polished – dress freshly pressed, make-up perfect and not a hair out of place – these girls are often early birds. Then there are those in an ‘it’s complicated’ relationship with the snooze button.

Whether you’re a self-identifying lazy girl or not these four fail-safe looks are guaranteed to raise your on-duty game to new heights so you can enjoy an extra ten minutes under the covers…

Monochrome

Everyone looks chic in monochrome no matter what they put on. Opt for sleek lines and oversized basics to mix and match so you’ll always have a few options to throw on. We love pieces by COS paired with a smart tote, mules and oversized sunnies.

Layers

Cool linen and cotton layers are ideal during the summer months so don’t be afraid to rock the look at work. Team a cool mini skirt with a pared-down camisole and a loose-fitting unbuttoned shirt for effortless polish in an instant.

Statement

A simple silhouette in a bright color or bold print is always a winner. Opt for something easy to wear and just add a cross-body bag, heels and a pair of frames to match your dress – this will instantly make you look more put together.

Suited

When has power dressing ever failed us? Team tailored pants with a cool blouse and blazer and complete the look with statement loafers and vintage-inspired shades. Nothing says ‘big deal coming through’ like a woman who puts a killer twist on a pant suit.

It’s great when things start to hot up outside, but when your summer holiday seems a million miles away and you have your day job to contend with, looking office-appropriate and remaining cool in the heat can pose a conundrum.

We know this feeling all too well, so we looked into the best ways to stay cool, look cool and feel cool when it’s too hot to think...

Classic

Go for a pair of flared pants and balance your silhouette with a short boxy camisole, a pussy-bow blouse or a luxe silk tee. Opt for light breathable fabrics and team with simple gold jewelry and a cool oversized tote.

Romantic

Opt for a floor-skimming summer dress in a unique print. Jazz it up with a pair of mules and keep your accessories sleek and pared down. Tidy hair and minimal make-up will ensure you still look office appropriate while feeling breezy.

The jumpsuit

The summer wardrobe hero – a lightweight jumpsuit in black, navy or white always looks sleek. For a vintage-inspired look, opt for a wide-leg style and for a modern twist, seek out a tailored number to pair with barely-there sandals.

The skirt

A midi skirt will raise your on-duty game to new levels when paired with the right ensemble. Invest in a statement piece – think print, metallic, tulle and pleats – and team it with a simple white shirt or blouse. Finish the look with a mini cross-body bag and nail summer dressing.

Tailoring is perfect for any occasion, as long as you know how to do it properly. We’ve put together a few tips on how to rock a tailored look and a helpful edit to ensure you can get the look, whatever your budget. With our help, sporting the right suit for your next event should be a breeze…

Layering

Although there's no formula per se, there are a few commandments you can easily follow to nail suiting. Generally, you’ ll want three pieces. Go for a shirt, blazer and a pair of light pants. With your key item in mind, play around with the rest of your outfit combining textures, hues and fabrics accordingly.

Pattern

Update your standard office look with a check jacket for smart-casual dressing at its finest. The finished look can be dialled up or down depending on your mood. Don't be afraid to try a mismatched fabric combo... It will lend your typical look an edge.

Casual

Reaching a fine equilibrium between a rigid suit and a slouchy weekend wardrobe is an art. Achieve come-as-you-are nonchalance by combining tailored pants with relaxed sweaters and sleek white sneakers.

Evening

If you can afford to, consult with a personal tailor for an expert fit. With the customised suit at hand, opt for a buttoned-down white crisp shirt and loafers. When it comes to fabric choice we say to go the extra mile and choose something luxe.

Crop tops are all the rage the past few seasons from the catwalk to editorials and blogger style insta feeds. Their popularity is mostly due to their versatile nature and their ability to mix and blend easily into your summer day or night out looks.

It’s actually less about baring all of your midriff and more about which separates you wear with it. The other thing we love about crop tops is that it's a very affordable trend that you can mix and match with ease!

Made to flatter

It's flattering for everyone, and contrary to what you might think you don't need killer abs to rock it! It's all about clever styling and layering separates to your advantage.

Day to night

Layer over a simple shift dress or wear a printed crop top over a simple white shirt for a easy way to introduce it to your work wardrobe. Remove the shift dress and wear it on its own paired with pants for an uber sleek going-out look!

Quick fashion fix

A statement trend, it is easily recognisable as a modern update your look!

Style with

Crop tops can we worn with your favourite pair of trousers or jeans, skirts and dresses are great easy pieces to style up or down with shoes and accessories. Always be creative with your separates and style it the way that best suits your mood.

Spring doesn’t have to mean floaty boho dresses and voluminous shapes. In fact, sleek tailoring is making a big comeback for the new season in fresh spring colours and prints. As seen on Kendall Jenner, floral suits are set to be on your workwear radar from now until winter.

Perfect for the office to drinks or for cool guest looks as wedding season approaches, floral suits put a spin on traditional tailoring. Think big, bold patterns from Dolce & Gabbana or chintzy florals in vintage-inspired shapes from the likes of MSGM.

Whatever the cut, be it skinny leg, wide-leg, with a cropped jacket or an oversized blazer, the trend – excuse the pun – suits everyone.

Want to try it for yourself? Browse our Editors’ favourite floral suits below…

It's true that dressing for work everyday, especially if you work in the creative industries, can cause anxiety that you just don't need in your life. We’ve all experienced ‘decision-making stress’. It's actually why Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs used to wear the same "uniform" to work every day, so they’d have one less decision to worry about.

There are plenty of times when a simple trouser and shirt combo will do, but we tend to fall into the outfit trap of looking samey, especially during the winter season, sporting the same sweater a few days in a row.

How to create the perfect work capsule wardrobe…

Dressing for work shouldn't be difficult if you simply invest in a few key items. For example, opting for a versatile suit or a few blazers is a great idea because you can change the look up with shirts, jumpers or T-shirts. Then go for a really great pair of trousers coupled with work-ready sweaters.

If you want to step outside of the usual blazer and trousers uniform, opt for a midi skirt, a pair of corduroy pants or, if your workplace allows it, a statement jumpsuit. If you own the key ingredients it should be fairly easy to mix and match in order to create an elegant outfit Monday to Friday hassle-free.

Amal Clooney n'est ni influenceuse, ni mannequin, ni it girl.

If the thought of piling on gives you an uneasy stomach, fear not. The art of layering has never looked better. Although it's an American tic, think the Olsen twins during the mid -noughties, being enclosed in layers of bohemian fabric and oversized coatigans, the Parisians have employed it with effortless ease too. Experimental layering is a dominant issue on the fashion agenda, especially when deciding on what to wear in chilly weather.

Take Paris Fashion Week for example. Fashion editors from across the globe (not only from the US) showcased their unique vision to nailing the layering craft. We've compiled a few of the best piling-on tricks we discovered on the streets of Paris you can try now.

TONAL

Try the tonal approach by opting for slightly differentiated hues of the same colour and wear it from head-to-toe. Throw in an unexpected colour like white or coral to juxtapose to the monochrome look.

ADD A ROLLNECK

Rollnecks have many charms being one of the best options for workwear and smart casual alike. Just take cues from Audrey Hepburn's fail-proof styling in 1957's Funny Face for more inspiration.  With your key item in place strategically create the rest of your outfit.

GO FOR COATIGAN

A knitted coatigan is your best bet when layering. Just throw it over some of the season's natural fabrics like linen, cotton and hemp and style it with bold and chunky accessories.

ADD SOME LEATHER

Layering offers a great opportunity to experiment with texture. Don't be afraid to wear your leather jacket under your main coat or trench in a samey colour.

DON'T FORGET THE PUFFER

Now might be the best time to invest in a slim quality puffer jacket. Wear it in the same colour just under your coat or trench. To avoid the same shade from top to bottom add a pop of colour in your accessories like a tangerine bag or mules.

Balenciaga's career was founded in Paris yet but his Spanish roots continued to have influence on his designs. I really admire that this can still be seen in the fashion house today and this year's autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection definitely proves this. The bright hues splashed across this dress have a definite Spanish feel - bold and vivacious. This is such a fun look, especially paired with chunky jewellery and fun but understated shoes. A loud print like this is perfect for going from workwear to evening but throw on some trainers and you're ready for the weekend. Image: Vogue

It may be March this week but we’re most concerned about the ‘Beast from the East’ sweeping into the UK with below freezing temperatures. Olivia Culpo's outfit during NYFW was a fine testament to her ability to look effortlessly polished and sexy at the same time. She rose to fame after being crowned Miss USA and Miss Universe. She's also a swimsuit model and has appeared in movies and series as an actress. Her sense of style is composed and sleek yet varied according to the occasion. For example, she goes for off-duty denim and elegant workwear to lovely party ensembles and cocktail dress attire. Here are a few of the style tips that constitute her unique fashion formula.

1. Play Up your Assets

Olivia Culpo knows what works best for her figure and shows off her best features: her pins. She considers what suits her best and incorporates trends according to her look, not the other way around. If you want to accentuate your legs, go for an oversized jumper dress or a mini with ankle boots that elongate the silhouette.

2. Selective Trend Infusion

As Culpo's look is mostly about clean lines, and loose but figure-hugging materials, elegance and classic patterns you're not bound to see Culpo sporting fishnet stockings. They may be one of the biggest trends of the season, but since they don't work for her overall look she doesn't wear them. However, she favours slingback kitten heels that are very much on trend right now.

3. Workwear Spin

You may not see Olivia Culpo working a 9-5 job yet when she goes for workwear she knows how to make it her own. For example, she chooses a culotte jumpsuit paired with chunky heels and socks in order to infuse a funkier edge to her normal officewear.

4. Colour Perfect

Since she's a fan of the chic classic looks, you may eye Culpo sporting a head-to-toe same colour look. However, she also enjoys experimenting by colour-clashing an outfit, especially this season. For example, she incorporated the red and pink combo which is a seasonal key trend, and at the same time works well with her aesthetic.

5. Off-Duty Fun

Although her look is poised and put together she likes to experiment with her off-duty looks. She may try a baggy denim, sheer tees and baseball caps just in time for weekend attire!
