While we love those vacation-ready beachy waves sometimes the sun, sea and sand can take a heavy toll on your hair, leaving it feeling super dry and frazzled when fall begins.

Thankfully, there are plenty of products designed to bring post-summer hair back to life – just in time to start the new season. We looked to the experts for a few tips on how to revive your tresses to their former glory…

Before washing

The first step to restoring a healthy shine after months of UV damage? Get yourself a hair mask. Try a deep conditioning butter and cover the lengths and ends of your hair – leave it overnight for maximum effect. Your hair will be left feeling super soft and tangle-free.

While washing

If your scalp has suffered due to sun exposure, invest in a soothing shampoo that treats dry skin and follow with a super moisturizing conditioner – try a leave-in one to tackle split ends.

Before drying

Before getting the hair dryer out, it’s time to lock in the moisture with a protective serum or spray. Look for one with nutrient-rich oils to keep your hair super hydrated and protected from heat – those beachy waves are no longer going to style themselves, after all.

After drying

Opt for a smoothing serum to add extra shine, tame flyaways and lend your locks a little extra moisture or if you find serum a little too greasy, finish with a spritz of nourishing shine spray.  Shop our post-summer hair care edit below…

Louisa Drake is a force to be reckoned with. A fitness expert, business founder and a serious source of lifestyle inspo, Louisa recently launched LDM, a fitness and lifestyle brand built on the principles of her own inclusive training method and her no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

We caught up with her to find out more about LDM, her motivations and of course, her style both in and out of the studio…

So how does your method work? How can LDM sessions influence your lifestyle?

At LDM we focus on body confidence and effective training techniques that educate clients on what their individual bodies need. My Method offers a host of fitness disciplines – cardio, conditioning, resistance and stretch – to keep the mind and body guessing and strengthen the muscles you use daily.

Our whole approach is to encourage confidence, so the Fitzrovia and Muswell Hill studios are a welcoming space where our instructors will calmly guide you through a class, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and well worked, but never worked up and stressed.

Who can take part in LDM classes?

LDM classes are accessible to anyone, regardless of their experience, fitness level, shape or size. We have two boutique studios in London, where you can access small group classes and private training daily. We also have LDM online video subscriptions and range of fitness equipment and apparel for taking part at home.

What inspired you to launch LDM – tell us about your journey...

After a professional dance career I started to transition into teaching dance and fitness. I was known for my unique style and had several disciplines under my belt but I realised there was something lacking from the workouts I was doing as a client at other gyms and studios.

I saw a gap for doing things my way and created LDM. After combining the best bits of popular disciples such as yoga, HIIT, Pilates to name just a few I created my signature total body workout that ticks all the boxes in one session – the Shape Changer, the perfect balance of cardio and conditioning material.

Next month we celebrate our first birthday at our Fitzrovia studio which offers a range of LDM classes that are constantly being fine tuned to suit our clients’ needs.

What does the word ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness really sums up being at your optimal best physically and mentally. For me it’s about finding the right balance – time to focus on my changing needs, to honour my own rhythms and have the energy to achieve everything I need.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

My clients. Most mornings I’m either up early teaching group classes or I’m with a private client. The occasion I have a morning free, I’ll top up on sleep or schedule some time for myself on the mat.

How important do you think physical health is to how happy and confident we feel?

Massively important. It should be the main reason you choose to work out and aesthetics are the bonus. The natural high we get from exercise is what keeps you committed.

What about fashion and style – can what we wear make us happy?

Absolutely, wearing something that helps you feel happy will be the reason your posture improves which will then be part of the reason your confidence improves and you carry yourself differently. You can express yourself through fashion and your own unique take on it.

What are your feel-good outfits for work, the weekend and going out?

I spend a lot of time in activewear and when I'm working out and training clients it’s all about supportive, feel-good fabrics. I select a sweat-wicking product that’s going to work hard for me when I’m back to back and versatile items that mean after a quick change I’m ready to go from studio to meeting.

When I’m off-duty it’s a mix of denim, fun prints, slogan tees and a vintage feel is always present in my style. For going out I add some standout accessories, switch a trainer for shoe and opt for a dress or cool jumpsuit.

What about your favourite brands?

Activewear brands such as Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Lucas Hugh, Nike and Adidas keep me supported and stylish. For tees and sweaters I like British brand Double Trouble Gang – we collaborated on some limited edition LDM sweaters & hoodies. I also love brands such as Etre Cecile and Sezane for an injection of fun prints and slogan pieces.

Free People, Reformation, ADAY, Faithfull the brand, Ganni and the Vampire’s Wife are labels I gravitate towards. I have some great jackets from Zoe Karssen, Whistles and Acne and my accessories are a mix of high street, vintage and investment pieces from Hill and Friends, Sezane, Laura Lee and Missoma.

I’m often in trainers by Adidas, Nike and APL and I’m currently loving the Stella McCartney x Adidas Parley shoes made from recycled ocean plastics – they work for all cardio based workouts. Veja make eco-friendly Parisian cool trainers that I like for off-duty and I also like Russell & Bromley, Birkenstock, Soludos, Hobbs and Miu Miu.

What’s next for you and for LDM?

Plans are underway to open a bigger standalone LDM studio in London where clients can still benefit from small boutique group fitness and private training with more space and amenities. We have some exciting opportunities in the pipeline and I’m working hard to build up our online LDM video offerings, so we are accessible not just in London but anywhere and at anytime. Watch this space…

We’ve all been guilty of letting our hair dry out on holiday, returning home with a salty, sun-bleached mane of tangles and wondering why we let things slide…

Looking like a bonafide beach babe doesn’t mean your hair should suffer so add these five hacks to your vacay beauty routine and thank us later.

Brush it out

Invest in a wide-toothed brush or comb to tease those tangles out and remember to be gentle. A spritz of detangler or UV heat protection spray can help with knotty hair but beware of brushing when wet and avoid slathering in conditioner before you brush as hair is more elastic in this state and prone to breakage.

Start at the root

It’s just as important to care for your scalp so before you start treating your hair, exfoliate and moisturise the skin at the root. There are plenty of great products that soothe and moisturise the scalp which is ideal if you’re heading somewhere hot.

Don’t scrunch

Gently twist your tresses and secure them with a clip or an Invisibobble, rather than scrunching them up and tying with an elastic as this bends, breaks and weakens the hair shaft leaving you with broken ends and unruly kinks – not ideal in hot weather.

Use a silk scarf

Silk prevents breakage and doesn’t create friction so if you want to keep your hair out of your face, try wrapping it up in a soft scarf. Opt for a cool printed style and knot or tie it around your ponytail or in a turban-style twist on top of your head.

Treat your hair

Use a hair mask, oil or leave-in conditioner once or twice a week to keep your locks soft, strong and shining. Restorative moisture treatments are perfect for the lead-up to a spell in the sun and indulging in a mask while you’re away and straight after you get home can’t hurt either.

Doesn't Rihanna look like a mermaid in this new cover of Vogue?  While channeling her Pisces energy, I love that she has such a sultry but natural makeup look.  The makeup was done by Lisa Eldridge one of my favorite makeup artists and I really like how she kept all the drama on Rihanna's iconic eyes, leaving her skin bronzed and bare at the same time. beautiful work. photo credit: @vogue on twitter #makeup #beauty #rihanna #lisaeldridge

Sunglasses are essential. Without a doubt, they are an accessory that we use all year round. In fact, a pair of stylish eyeglasses can be the focus of our outfit, leaving aside those that are merely functional to welcome trends such as mini-glasses, with applications, with entertaining forms. Spring is all about dewy skin, barely there shimmers and healthy glows but knowing how to help your skin look its best can be tricky. Protecting it from pollutants in the air is tough and layering up on make up doesn’t always help either. We enlisted the help of some of our favourite beauty bloggers and editors to put together a list of tricks and tools to help you get glowing skin in next to no time. So ditch the foundation, put a cross on your calendar and prepare for a night in dedicated to skincare and spa-like relaxation.

How to detox your skin…

Drink more

It sounds obvious but staying hydrated is the key to great skin. Water and tea are best for flushing the toxins out of your body but avoid black teas and stick to a green tea or a brew made from nettles, dandelion and other detoxifying ingredients.

Work out

Raising your heart rate and breaking a sweat are great for resetting your system, your skin included. Sweating out impurities that build up from snacking on junk food and exposing your skin to pollution and dirt is great but just make sure you hit the shower after a work out to avoid sweat drying on your skin.

Try dry brushing

Brushing your skin helps to slough away dead skin cells and gently help your face and body to feel softer and look brighter. Massaging your skin also helps so investing in a little hand-held massage roller is a great idea too.

Exfoliate your skin and use a mask

Using a face and body exfoliator is a must if you want glowing skin to rival a beauty blogger. Stick with something gentle and exfoliate once a week. You can also use an electric exfoliator like a Foreo – these are great for when you’re in a rush. Using a face mask will also help to nourish and heal your skin, drawing out impurities and leaving it feeling renewed.

Steam your skin

Warm steam is great for your skin so take a cleansing bath or make some time to use a special beauty steamer. Your face will thank you for it.

It's back. The festival that created its own unique dress code is returning this weekend and if you're one of the lucky show goers we have a few tips for you. Packing for Coachella doesn't have to be a daunting task. You don't need to acquire a Native American headdress to impress. In fact, avoiding fancy dress and going for a chicer approach will make more of a statement. So assuming, you’ve already sorted out your luggage, we’ll help you with the packing.

Do's and don'ts when packing for Coachella…

Don't bring a one-piece

Jumpsuits and bodysuits look cute but they’re a no-no at a festival, as you'll be stuck in long toilet cues and you'll have to change in and out of your one-piece. Instead, go for the simpler version with a bralette, cut-off jean shorts and western-style booties.

Do light layering

Considering you'll be faced with the adverse weather of the desert, see-sawing between high and low degrees it's best to resort to layering. Wear your swimsuit top, with a flowing skirt or denim shorts, your booties and a kimono or denim jacket for after dark.

Do practical bags

Backpacks and cross-body bags are your safest bet come festival season. You can store larger items with ease: say your water bottle, SPF, phone and deodorant while leaving your arms and hands free to fist pump and dance the night away.

Don't do sandals

We know the model pack often strolls the California polo fields in sandals which looks adorable during the day but not so practical during the gigs. Instead, go for cute white sneakers or ankle boots that will elevate your outfit and keep your toes safe at the same time.

Do glitter make up

Add some extra sparkle by adopting the festival look without going full unicorn. Some stick-on gems, glitter eyeshadow and shimmering lip balm will leave you looking fresh and ready to party. Avoid heavy eyeliners and dark eyeshadow as they tend to smudge in the heat.

Editor's Pick: Add a dab of self-tan before you hit the festival for an extra glow. Just remember to wash your hands immediately after applying it and stay away from stain-prone clothing like your whites and crochet bikini tops.

Now you're done and ready to party the weekend away! See you in the fields…

Today is National Unicorn Day! Although you would have not bet on them a couple years back, unicorn-inspired products invaded our beauty routine, leaving their holographic mark behind them.

Make-up brands have been developping more and more products around iridiscent hues, bringing a magical glow to our faces for a multi-dimensional make up.

From runways to our own bathrooms, rainbow shades highlight our cheeks and give a mesmerizing look to our lips. Val Garland at Giambattista Valli with glitter faces, Pat McGrath at Maison Margiela with dazzling lips, Paris Fashion Week was full of kaleidoscopic visages for a cosmic effect.

The visionary make up Pat McGrath innovated in the glitter and holo world, for a showstopper look. Her Instagram is dream-worthy, inventing liquid gold for skin, glitter shining like a million diamonds, and was the first to create kit for a at-home makeup. Make up is a good way to allow yourself to some fantasy, without a little touch on your face, without going into full unicorn look.
