Now that September's here and New York Fashion Week has graced us once again, it’s time to reflect on the trends we saw on the runways and get excited about wearing them in real life. Here’s our round-up of the top ten trends we loved at NYFW and the ones you'll be seeing everywhere...

Animal print

Already spotted on our favorite street style stars, animal prints ruled the New York runways. Tom Ford’s came in every shape and color you could imagine, but classic leopard patterns still dominate – see Victoria Beckham’s timeless coats.

Western boots

From slouchy over-the-knee shapes to classic cowboy styles, plenty of Western boots were worn on the runway this season. Whichever you choose, show them off with cropped denim or maximalist dresses.

Checks

They may be nothing new, but checks are about to have a major moment. Michael Kors and Calvin Klein 205W39NYC both showed punk-inspired tartan coats – we’ll be wearing them with denim and chunky boots.

Logomania

Logo prints have ruled the street style circuit for several seasons now, and they’re not going anywhere – Alexander Wang’s embellished tracksuits and Tom Ford’s sequined sweatshirts are proof if proof were ever needed.

Neon

Already championed by Kim Kardashian, neon brights popped up everywhere. We loved Calvin Klein’s industrial-style jackets and Tibi’s fluorescent sweaters teamed with low-key camel tailoring.

‘70s brown

Coach and Self-Portrait both showed plenty of ‘70s-inspired brown hues, proving the trend has serious staying power. Try a belted coat or midi dress for a timeless feel.

Colorful suiting

Navy and black will no longer do – suits this season came in every color possible. From candy pinks to pastel blues, any shade goes as long as you’re wearing it from head to toe.

‘80s maximalism

Tom Ford proved the ‘80s are here to stay for another season with purple leopard-print leggings, sequins and shoulder pads.

Modern sports

Sportswear is now a staple on the runway, and this season it came in sleek silhouettes with industrial details – think quilted nylon midi skirts and oversized drawstring pants.

The new utility

Military-inspired pieces make their way onto the catwalk every fall, and with good reason: a classic double-breasted coat or khaki jacket will never go out of style.

From Gucci to Marni luxury labels have been gifting us with far-out prints in statement colors for SS18 and beyond. These pieces look gorgeous when paired on a catwalk but what about when it comes to the practicalities of dressing for every day?

Clashing prints is a tricky trend to master, especially if you want to look chic for work, meetings and brunches with friends. There’s a fine line between effortless beauty and bag lady but fret not, we’re here to help.

Whatever your budget, take stock of our Editors’ tips and browse our picks below to look like a bonafide member of the Gucci gang day and night…

Keep it tonal

Keeping your pieces in the same color family, or clashing complementary colors will help to keep the look chic. Don’t go too matchy matchy but always keep your palette in mind.

Scale is everything

Too many oversized print pieces will drown you so remember to balance your silhouette. Team boxy jackets with voluminous skirts and pants and opt for slouchy tops and sweaters with mini skirts and tapered pants.

Mix fabrics

To accentuate the contrast between your prints, opt for clashing fabrics too. Mix silk with jacquards and crepe with denim and beading for a next-level look.

Accessories rules

Less is more with this trend so keep your shoes sleek and opt for simple earrings and rings. A single statement necklace always works well but keep it classic with a gold-toned chain or simple chunky knotted style.

Crop tops are all the rage the past few seasons from the catwalk to editorials and blogger style insta feeds. Their popularity is mostly due to their versatile nature and their ability to mix and blend easily into your summer day or night out looks.

It’s actually less about baring all of your midriff and more about which separates you wear with it. The other thing we love about crop tops is that it's a very affordable trend that you can mix and match with ease!

Made to flatter

It's flattering for everyone, and contrary to what you might think you don't need killer abs to rock it! It's all about clever styling and layering separates to your advantage.

Versatility

You can sport crop tops in everyday staples, evening wear, streetwear, workwear even gowns and wedding dresses!

Day to night

Layer over a simple shift dress or wear a printed crop top over a simple white shirt for a easy way to introduce it to your work wardrobe. Remove the shift dress and wear it on its own paired with pants for an uber sleek going-out look!

Quick fashion fix

A statement trend, it is easily recognisable as a modern update your look!

Style with

Crop tops can we worn with your favourite pair of trousers or jeans, skirts and dresses are great easy pieces to style up or down with shoes and accessories. Always be creative with your separates and style it the way that best suits your mood.

Fashion has always courted controversy and there’s been no shortage of designers using their collections to make a statement. From Vivienne Westwood to Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, the catwalk is a platform for more than just style.

Whether you rock a ‘The Future Is Female’ tee or a pro-EU hoodie from Vetements, donning a slogan T-shirt is a great way to show the world you’ve got something to say and you’re proud to make a statement.

To celebrate Earth Day, we’ve rounded up our favourite statement tees from fashion giants to little-known brands. Simply team yours with high-waisted jeans and trainers for a vintage-inspired look, or opt for wide-leg trousers and an oversized blazer to show you mean business.

Another make up look that I have touched upon before is the blocked colour eyeshadow trend. This was recently spotted at the likes of Marni and Prada shows. Dior even matched their red, yellow and pink sunglasses to their eyeliner of choice. I love eyeshadows and my Morphe palette has been my best make up friend for months now. I am always experimenting with colours so it's great to see this manifest on the catwalk. Even better it's been kept really simple. All you need to do is swatch a colour across your lid et voila. An easy make up look that's also really fun. Image: Indigital

Our cute little furry friends became models during Milan Fashion Week. Carried by models like Gigi Hadid, the Tod’s runway featured puppies! The most exciting show of the season was definitely Tod’s. They hacked the fashion system! Everyone’s attention were on the puppies instead of the designs. What do you think of puppies being more fashionable than you? #puppies #tods #fashion #runway #catwalk #dogs #animals
