It is common knowledge in the world of beauty that eyebrows can make or break a face. To understand the full extend of this, just imagine your favourite celebrity without eyebrows. Not so hot, huh?

Eyebrows are therefore a super important part of any beauty routine. Here's how to have fleeky brows.

If you have full brows
If your brows are already pretty full, consider yourself blessed, as full brows are MAJORLY in! All you need to do is thread them a little to get rid of strays, and keep them tidy by using a brow gel (which is kind of like a mascara for your brows).

If you have full brows but have some empty spots
Since you have full brows already, half your battle is won! And spots of missing hair are easy to fix. Simply use a deep brown eyeshadow (avoid black as it looks way too harsh) to fill in the spots where your skin is showing, and set your brow hairs in place with a brow gel or brown mascara. Done!

If you have medium or scanty brows
Thankfully, even if you don't naturally have luscious brows, it's super easy to achieve this look with a little bit of effort. There's a variety of things you can use to fill your brows in: dark brown eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, eyebrow pomade, or an eyebrow pencil.

If using anything besides a pencil, use an angular brush to create the desired shape, and then fill in with the same brush. Make sure to use a little product at a time—it's easier to add more product than to remove excess product.

Take care to keep your brush strokes short and upward, so that you achieve the look of real hair. If you end up going a little too heavy on the product or find your brows looking unblended, simply use a spoolie or eyebrow brush to brush it out.

A lot of beauty myths are completely false, for example washing your hair in beer does not make it shiny. It makes you smell like you spent the night in a dingy bar and someone spilt their drink on you. However, some of the classic beauty old wives tales do actually work. These are our tried and tested beauty myths:

1. Coconut oil for your hair, skin and teeth.
Basically coconut oil is sent down from the gods, it works for everything.  Makeup remover, breath freshener, makeup brush cleaner, lip balm, frizz tamer, dandruff treatment, deep conditioner, boyfriend troubles, brexit...

2. Cold green tea bags for puffy eyes.
Cucumber only works because it's cold and wet, whereas cold green tea bags actually reduce the appearance of blood vessels. Due to the caffeine and antioxidants they can even reduce inflammation.

3. Charcoal face mask.
Yup this one actually works. It can get rid of blackheads, whiteheads and other impurities. If you make the mask with aloe vera and shea butter it'll ensure the charcoal doesn't strip your skin too much.

4. Cayenne pepper lip plumper.
Just mix it into a paste with olive oil and apply to the lips for five minuets, it will tingle but don't be put off- that's normal. A great temporary lip plumper which isn't as risky as fillers.

5. Mayonnaise to protect your hair.
'Ew' is a normal response to this, but hear me out. Blake Lively uses it, and her hair is perfection. You apply it to the bottom of your hair before showering, which means that the ends are protected when shampooing. Just rinse thoroughly, obv.

Back in 2013 Feel Unique conducted a study that found 1 in 3 women applied their makeup on their daily commute. 55% of the women asked said that they applied their makeup on the move because they don't have time to at home.

Whatever the reasons, we've all done it. Or do it on a regular basis. The panic when you wakeup late and have just enough time to rush out the door, which then leaves you trying to rescue bedhead etc whilst on the tube.

Applying makeup in public use to be a big taboo, which when you think about it is pretty messed up- society makes you feel like you have to wear makeup but punishes you for applying it in public. Thankfully, this is no longer the case (as much), and many people feel comfortable doing their beauty regime on public transport. Obv no one needs makeup to be beautiful, but many enjoy the process and the confidence it gives them. Or if you're anything like me, just have magpie tendencies and want to put all the glitter on your face...

So if you do have to apply your makeup on transportation, follow these Do's and Don'ts that will ensure you don't turn up to work looking like the joker...

The Guide

1. Wait for stops.
If you're applying eyeliner, or lipstick try and do it when the tube is at a station or the bus stops at some traffic lights. Beware of the sudden jolts when the vehicle starts moving again though...

2. Carry a comapact mirror.
We have all tried to apply our makeup blind, or in the reflection of a window. But don't. You'll end up bright orange or with eyeshadow on your forehead. Not cute.

3. Use cream products For blush, highlight and bronze.
Use your fingers and a cream based product as this will give you more control. Add a little at a time- it's much easier to add more than to try and salvage a clown-esqu look.

4. Go for nudes.
With nude tones you're safer, because if you make a mistake it won't be obvious. For example, red eyeshadow is a big trend right now, but probably a good look to try out in your home rather than whilst on the move.

5. Hair, keep it simple.
A braid, ponytail or bun can all be done in a number of minuets. Trying to fishtail plait your hair on the bus does not end well (talking from personal experience, I ended up with what resembled a dread-lock).

Applying primer is an extra step in your beauty regime, but it's a worthwhile one. Primers stop makeup from fading, creasing, feathering or sweating off. Most people who wear foundation already use a primer for that, but what about your Lids? Lashes? Lips?

We've got our tried and tested favourites in the edit below so that you can 'beat your face' like a pro. Enjoy!

Right from concealer to eyeshadow to blush to highlighter, it's always way more convenient to own palettes rather than individual products.

Not only do you get more variety in a palette, it is also easier to store and travel with, and gives you a better bang for your buck.

So what are you waiting for? Dive into our handpicked lists of eyeshadow and face palettes below, and stock up your makeup collection!

Short of questing to find the Fountain of Youth there's not much in the way of turning back time for smooth, baby soft skin. Eating clean and sweat sessions are only part of what'll keep us looking like Baba Yaga. However, incorporating the right serum for your primary skin concern into your daily routine can be a total game changer...

Anti-Ageing & Firming: Whether it's a reduction in fine lines, plumpness, firmer skin or all three you're after, nothing beats a serum packing potent hydrating and botanical properties. Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is an intensive 99% natural remedy while Nuxe Nuxuriance addresses skin weakened by hormonal fluctuations.

Oily & Acne Prone Skin: Those plagued with oily and acne prone skin with large pores will be tired of reading about not stripping the face if its natural oils. There is the constant fear of not wanting to agitate the skin further so when choosing a serum, pick one that's nourishing as well as antibacterial. If your skin is also extremely reactive, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ is also paraben free and non-comedogenic.

Dry & Sensitive Skin: Suffer from hyper sensitive skin that's dry to the point of crusty or flaky? Opt for French pharmaceutical brand Bioderma's Hydrabio Serum Moisturising Concentrate to stimulate the skin's natural water channels and give an instant hydration effect. Additionally, Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum is known for its deep hydration properties thanks to its thermal water composition.

Redness & Dark Circles: Overpower your face's ability to reveal what you've been up to the night/s before - whether its partying or pigging out - and choose Darphin Dark Circles Relief and De-Puffing eye serum and/or Stila One Step Correct!

Emma Stone, take a bow please. Not only did she look sensational in sheer Dior for this weekend’s SAG awards, her hair and make-up were also flawless, which means we both admire and hate her in equal measure! To replicate Emma’s stunning complexion and pop lip combination, let us walk you through it- it’s easier than you think. Using The Body’s Shop’s Mineral range, work the powder into the brush and tip off any excess before applying to your face using circular motions. Once your base is complete, concentrate on your eyes. Emma’s top lashes clearly have been coated in a volumising mascara to really open her eyes up, finished with a slick of eyeliner on the top and lower lids. Emma’s blusher is incredibly subtle, so the real statement piece of the look (those gorgeous red lips) stays the focal point. Sweep across a touch of colour and set down; it’s now time to prep your lips for colour perfection. Opt for a rich matte red colour and depending on how steady your hands are, apply direct or use a lip brush to work the colour onto your lips. Perfection personified, we’re sure you’ll agree!
