Description

Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway:: Participate in a lesson to master the basic principles of carriage driving and enjoy a drive out with a pair of ponies around the locality. Following a safety briefing, discover how to harness a pony and the correct technique for putting it into the carriage. Take part in a one-to-one lesson with a friendly trainer to pick up the basics of driving. There'll be the chance to use those newfound skills to negotiate a course of cones and barriers. After a coffee break, hop onto the back step of a carriage driven by a trainer and pulled along by a pair of ponies around the pretty local lanes, or if the weather is poor, in the indoor school. Finish by meeting the other residents of the stables, from ponies and pigs to the donkey and sheep. Availability: Seven days a week, all year round. Weekends tend to be very busy and we recommend you allow at least six weeks booking notice. Weather: As there are indoor and outdoor facilities at the venue, the weather will not affect this experience. Duration: Lasts for approximately three hours with at least one hour of driving time each. Numbers On Day: This is an exclusive experience with just the two of you and your instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome and are able to watch the whole experience. Dress Code: Wear comfortable clothes (e.g. leggings, jodhpurs or track suit bottoms) with wellingtons or riding boots (no trainers please). You can wear your own hat (if it conforms to safety standards) or the venue can provide one. Guidelines: Exit the A74(M) at junction 17 (signposted Lockerbie) and at the first roundabout take the first exit onto the B723 to Boreland village (do not head into Lockerbie town). Continue for approximately five miles along the B723. The centre is on your right as you pass through the village, opposite a bed and breakfast and a short distance past the small post office and shop on your left. Restrictions: Min age three. Under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult. Max weight is 17 stone. The centre introduces people with additional needs to ponies and carriage driving. Please contact them prior to booking to discuss tailored activities. Other Info: Sessions are tailored to each individual's needs. The instructor is by your side at all times and will take things as slow or as fast as you all feel comfortable with.
