The Cosmo is a round lampshade born of classic Scandinavian design. The globe shape light, inspired by geometry, creates an evenly diffused, ambient glow. NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED - Cosmo will arrive ready to hang and use, straight out of the box. The shade is white and stunning even with the light off, and depending on the type of bulb used, it glows a warm white, cream colour when illuminated. There are no openings in the light shade structure making it pleasingly glare-free lighting. The original ball shaped light was used as a Christmas decoration and became an iconic piece of lighting design. Holger Str0m worked in packaging design and was initially asked to create a design for a spherical lamp to be used for a Christmas display. The classic lampshade, characterised by a simple, minimal and functional structure continues to create a statement piece within contemporary interior design. The shade is designed to be suspended from a ceiling rose pendant cable, hanging from the ceiling in the centre of a room, often fitted as standard for most housing in the UK. There is no need for extra light fittings if you already have this type of light fitting. The light fitting is inserted through a gap in the shade, the cable is then positioned so as to come through one of the circular joints which grips it firmly in place, with the bulb centred inside. If you don't already have the standard ceiling rose fitting as pictured, we can supply a standard 6 inch ceiling rose pendant or they can be purchased in other lengths from DIY stores. Always get expert advice for all major electrical repairs. Interlocking, geometrically identical shaped components, die-cut from opaque, white polypropylene sheets are used to create this sculptural light shade. Customers receive the actual lampshade itself, as pictured. Self-assembly is not required. Designed for use with ceiling pendant style light fittings; the stylish, non-electrical light shades are designed to fit on to a new or existing ceiling pendant cable. The lampshades have the appearance of a solid shape. The light bulb is hidden fully enclosed inside the shade. Without any dominant opening, the light emission from the bulb is dispersed and filtered throughout the lampshade's outer surface made up of clean curved gaps. So you don't get that niggling glare from an exposed light bulb. FITTING THE SHADE IS EASY Installation is easy as the light shade comes packaged in a box, ready to use straight away. Simply take the shade out of the box, attach to the flex above the light bulb, suspend from the ceiling then turn it on. When installing there is no need to fit extra light fittings - The shades 'self-grip' around the flex. The light bulb and lampholder at the end of the pendant lighting cable hanging from the ceiling rose, is inserted through one of the narrow gaps in the structure of the shade and simply slots into the centre of the nearest 'joint' which holds it in place. ADVICE ON LIGHT BULBS We recommend CFL and LED energy saving light bulbs from 8W to 11W which is equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent bulb. Use 8W candle or Corn style bulbs if the shade is small or narrow. Do not use the old style incandescent, filament bulbs, as they get too hot. Only use bulbs up to a maximum of 40 watts (40W). When positioned correctly the light cable is gripped so the light bulb hangs in the centre of the shade, rather than at the top and will stay fixed in place. To turn the shade into a lamp, rather than a ceiling shade we offer another fitting so the shade can be placed on a table, worktop, surface, sideboard or even on the floor, perhaps in the corner of a room or in the fireplace - purchase a switched cable and plug lamp fitting in the drop down menu.
