Alexander Wang, the creative director of Balenciaga, one of the most influential forces in fashion and a major player in the luxury goods industry, is rumoured to be finishing his role after completing the forthcoming SS16 collection set to be shown this October in Paris. Does this pose a threat to Kering, the conglomerate that operates Balenciaga?
Alexander Wang is a central role model for the house of Balenciaga - known for his edgy fashion, streetwise twist and high-impact fashion shows. The creative director has been a main asset to Balenciaga. With CEO Isabelle Guichot reporting an acceleration of double-digit growth in ‘almost all categories’ within the last year.
The San Francisco star, some would say, is the face of Balenciaga, so a serious threat could be in store for the household name if Wang decides to separate from the luxurious brand.
Yet this doesn’t mean the end to Alexander Wang, with over 15 stores worldwide with men’s and women’s categories, offering ready-to-wear and accessories and past collaborations with H&M. Noted for his amazingly talented “Off duty model” looks with sharp lines, groovy t-shirts and studded handbags.
Perhaps the Kering group will bring Wang under their roof as a independent designer? Yet although all allegations are yet to be confirmed of Wang’s departure.
There is no doubt we will not being seeing a lot more of Wang; named as one of fashion’s greatest sensations so far of this century.
