Raf Simmons is stepping down as the Creative Director of fashion house, Dior as announced by LVMH this morning.
The questions is, why?
Simmons was appointed Creative Director in 2012 and since then, the brand prospered and grew under his direction. From taking new heights and direction from John Galliano who was his predecessor, Raf Simmons gave life to Dior's rich and romantic legacy.
As it turns out, during Dior's last Spring show in October at Paris Fashion Week, which was Simmon's last show, the management such as Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH knew about Simmon's intent of stepping down and exiting Dior. No bad blood, no broken ties, as Simmons and the rest of the team in Dior and LVMH had always had a warm relationship with each other.
So the question again, why and what is Simmon's reason to leave?
From a statement released from Simmons, "It is after careful and long consideration that I have decided to leave my position as Creative Director of Christian Dior Couture Women's collection. It is a decision, based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside my work."
Now, it seems like Simmons felt that Dior wasn't the best place for him to grow, so who will succeed him next? Lots of name will surface including Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, or even Phoebe Philio of Celine, the waiting game begins.
