In the not-so-distant-past, it was easy to avoid the siren call of sales racks. Your inbox wouldn't have been flooded with tempting sales updates and your mobile wouldn't have even been a smartphone, so none of those cheeky store app notifications to run you off track!
You may have already spent a fortune on Christmas gifts and party attire but with the New Year fast approaching, January isn't looking quite as promising on the social calendar front... Here's how to enjoy the sales without sobbing uncontrollably on your bedroom floor, surrounded by a mountain of sequinned dresses:
1) Take a good look through your wardrobe, shoe collection and accessories hoard and be honest about how many items are of a similar style/colourway. When scouring through sales racks, resist the temptation to purchase more of the same pieces.
2) Still harbouring ripped tights and grease stained vests from back when you were semi-squatting? Toss them out. If the majority of your wardrobe consists of sh*t you wouldn't touch with a barge pole, decluttering your life actually helps you make informed decisions about what you can afford to splurge on.
3) When faced with something new you simply MUST have, visualise how you'd style it with existing items in your wardrobe that you're comfortable wearing on a regular basis. Then visualise how you'd style it with outfits for different occasions- you know, just to optimise its wear.
