Back in 2013 Feel Unique conducted a study that found 1 in 3 women applied their makeup on their daily commute. 55% of the women asked said that they applied their makeup on the move because they don't have time to at home.
Whatever the reasons, we've all done it. Or do it on a regular basis. The panic when you wakeup late and have just enough time to rush out the door, which then leaves you trying to rescue bedhead etc whilst on the tube.
Applying makeup in public use to be a big taboo, which when you think about it is pretty messed up- society makes you feel like you have to wear makeup but punishes you for applying it in public. Thankfully, this is no longer the case (as much), and many people feel comfortable doing their beauty regime on public transport.
Obv no one needs makeup to be beautiful, but many enjoy the process and the confidence it gives them. Or if you're anything like me, just have magpie tendencies and want to put all the glitter on your face...
So if you do have to apply your makeup on transportation, follow these Do's and Don'ts that will ensure you don't turn up to work looking like the joker...
1. Wait for stops.
If you're applying eyeliner, or lipstick try and do it when the tube is at a station or the bus stops at some traffic lights. Beware of the sudden jolts when the vehicle starts moving again though...
2. Carry a comapact mirror.
We have all tried to apply our makeup blind, or in the reflection of a window. But don't. You'll end up bright orange or with eyeshadow on your forehead. Not cute.
3. Use cream products For blush, highlight and bronze.
Use your fingers and a cream based product as this will give you more control. Add a little at a time- it's much easier to add more than to try and salvage a clown-esqu look.
4. Go for nudes.
With nude tones you're safer, because if you make a mistake it won't be obvious. For example, red eyeshadow is a big trend right now, but probably a good look to try out in your home rather than whilst on the move.
5. Hair, keep it simple.
A braid, ponytail or bun can all be done in a number of minuets. Trying to fishtail plait your hair on the bus does not end well (talking from personal experience, I ended up with what resembled a dread-lock).
