Teamwork definitely plays a role in the smooth covering of LFW15 and after an action packed day yesterday, @lauraroberts and I knew exactly what we needed to do to keep up the momentum. Knocking myself out with Night Nurse after banging out celebrity coverage from yesterday’s shows last night, I fell into a coma-like slumber; here’s hoping for a proactive few days! Arriving on the Strand bright and early with our gadgets fully charged (WHERE IS my portable phone charger?!??), we headed to the HEMYCA presentation at ME London. Led into an elevator not dissimilar to the one at the Shard - sans digital sky view - there was much appreciation from us Press ladies for the strikingly handsome member of hotel security ushering everyone about. Treading as if we were walking on eggshells so not as to knock any of the half-asleep models off of their pedestals (literally), this collection wasn’t so much about red and black as MAROON and black. Resembling an Autumn/Winter collection a lot more than some of the other collections we’ve seen so far, HEMYCA seemed to promote “wrapping up” as opposed to “stripping down”. Perfect for the fashionable working professional, highlights included an maroon leather co-ords with embossed pattern detailing, a sharp black pant suit with a cinched waist touch-of-white jacket and a tailored black collared duster coat with embossed leather front panelling. From this point onwards the day became a blur - admittedly it’d been a long time since I dedicated myself to checking out new and emerging designers and there was a lot to take in! Asli Polat featured more of the oversized check patterns we’d been seeing as well as accents of fur, dropped hems and hair and beauty looks on the models with a fresh faced dewy glow contrasted with red hot eyeshadow and semi-sleek, semi-tousled hair. Enjoying the Mimi Tran show at Fashion Scout in the afternoon, we were impressed with the sheer number of pieces in the collection and spent quite some time gushing over sheer gowns with #sequindetailing
in addition to 21st century power suits - SHOULDER PADS, YEAH! - and a shimmering mermaid-style dress featuring flashes of gold, teal and blue. Soldiering on to see Soojin Lee, yet again we were grateful to have viewed yet another cool new talent; the collection boasted a partly #military
look, metallic cuts, woollen coats, brushstroke beach scene prints, clashing prints, touches of rich burgundy and floral sleeve detailing. Whilst these were some of our favourites today, we also checked out Fashion Scout’s Ones to Watch show featuring designers, J Moon, Angel Chen, Minju Kim and Kim Stevenson as well as ducking into see the Faustine Steinmetz presentation and finishing the day with Zeynep Kartel. Having just devoured the delicious cupcake from Asli Polat this morning - who’d have thought I’d be patient enough to postpone rifling through a goody bag? - perhaps it’s time to chillax and get hunting for that portable phone charger again…fail.
