In this video, BBC 1Xtra DJ and Presenter Claira Hermet interviews her own boobs that have recently gone through a preventative double mastectomy, on life before and after the operation.
Double mastectomy is a surgical procedure to lower the risk of breast cancer, also recently publicized by Angelina Jolie, who has gone through the same operation. BRCA 1 gene carriers, including Claira and her recently passed mother and sister, have an 85% chance of contracting breast cancer. Successful double mastectomy procedures can significantly lower this risk.
If your family has a history of breast cancer, and or you would like to know more about the operation, you can contact your local clinics to see if you carry the BRCA 1 gene.
You can follow Claira's extraordinary journey on life before and after double mastectomy on her Youtube Channel.
