works better? It's widely agreed that using your fingers to apply foundation isn't a good option, especially since that method uses three times more product compared to a brush or blender.
However, the battle between blender and brush isn't so clear cut, with beauty bloggers firmly choosing one camp over the other. Here's our take on the two beauty heavyweights...
The Beauty Blender
Beauty Blenders are made of non-latex, antimicrobial foam which means that they're reusable, and that they press the foundation onto and into the skin rather than swiping it on like brushes do. They allow you to get full coverage but with less product. Plus, beauty blenders are a lot cheaper and you won't have to invest in new ones as frequently.
They are a little bit more hassle compared to a bush, mainly because they have to be damp when used and the motion of patting is more effort than swiping.
Brushes apply the foundation a lot quicker, give a full coverage and make it easy to build and layer. Using a buffing brush gives a thicker and more opaque coverage compared to a beauty blender.
Despite offering a fuller coverage, when foundation is applied with a brush the product is a lot more visible on the skin. So although it may be thicker, it doesn't give a velvety finish like a beauty blender does. Added to this, brushes are a lot more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Cheaply made brushes result in stray hairs breaking from the brush, which isn't what you want when applying your foundation.
It is ultimately down to preference and skin type. For oily skin a beauty blender is probably better as it buffs the areas rather than letting the product sit on top. However with dry skin, your regime probably includes applying a moisturiser first, which may work better with a brush as the foundation can sit on top of the product rather than being buffed into it.
