Among these famous figures is Adwoa Aboah, the internationally renown British model who has modelled for Chanel, Dior, Burberry and Marc Jacobs, just to name a few...
Adwoa Aboah has just released a video for Heads Together, a charity campaign set up by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, in which she discusses her depression with her mother. She explains that talking about her problems is what helped her most, saying “I went to meetings and I talked, and talked. That's all I ever did. Now I'm here and I'm happy and my life has changed. So, if that's all I had to do, then I couldn't believe that it was that simple... I literally thought it was going to be something that was so complicated."
This isn’t Adwoa Aboah’s first move to destigmatise mental health problems as she has spoken up about her issues before and is the founder of Gurls Talk, an online platform for girls to share their experiences and feelings which encourages them to work together and empower each other.
Hopefully, celebrities will continue to open up about about their experiences to both get rid of the stigma around mental health and give hope to anyone suffering with similar issues.
Mental health problems affect more than half of the population at some point in their lives, and people should know that they are not alone in their struggles and that there are many ways to deal with them.
