STAN LAUREL & OLIVER HARDY CLASSICS 3: SILENT
Laurel and Hardy ('The Boys' as they are affectionately known) are the most recognized comedy duo the cinema has produced. The film that introduced them as the Stan and Ollie characters we know so well today was 1927's Do Detectives Think. Before that, Stan Laurel (from England) and Oliver Hardy (from America) had long solo careers, as this collection of rare and hilarious comedies shows.Hardy entered movies in 1913, Laurel in 1917. Stan often played sharp-witted types, and Ollie heavies or villains (often with comics Billy West or Larry Semon). By the mid-1920's, both were employed at the Roach Studios, still playing different roles, with Laurel also gag-writing and even directing Charley Chase, James Finlayson, Our Gang - and Oliver Hardy! Producer Hal Roach played comic roulette, teaming his stars in the hopes of hitting box office gold. The Boys make their first appearance together in Lucky Dog, but it will be another ten years before they truly become a team. This collection showcases the comic genius of two great performers on the road to fame - Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy. Short Kilts (1924) with Stan Laurel, James Finlayson: The clans collide when the McPhersons invite the McGregors over for supper. Trouble starts between Stan and Fin over a game of musical chairs... nothing a bowl of haggis and a punch in the eye can't fix! Smithy (1924) with Stan Laurel, James Finlayson: After being discharged from the army, Smithy (Stan) gets a job building houses. Construction becomes destruction when his old sergeant (Finlayson) shows up! Along Came Auntie (1926) with Oliver Hardy, Vivien Oakland: Talk about desperate housewives! Deeply in debt, Vivien rents a room to Ollie, her first husband. When her rich, divorce-hating aunt turns up, her ex and current hubbies are at each other's throats, and nothing she does can hide her past. The Stolen Jools (1931) with Laurel and Hardy: A Hollywood who's who! Along with Buster Keaton, Joe E. Brown and many others, The Boys (by now

When beautiful Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett) joins the university faculty, Sherman grows desperate to whittle his 400-pound frame down to size and win her heart. So, with one swig of this experimental fat-reducing serum, Sherman becomes Buddy Love, a fast-talking, pumped-up, plumped-down Don Juan. But both the potion and Buddy prove to be uncontrollable, and Sherman discovers he has created a monster! Can Sherman stop his buff alter ego before it's too late, or will Buddy have the last laugh? Boasting incredible special effects, a super soundtrack, and co-starring James Coburn, Larry Miller, Dave Chappelle and John Ales, this hilarious hit is worth its weight in fun!

This Is England DVD
Set during the summer of 1983 This Is England is the poignant story of Shaun (Thomas Turgoos) an unpopular kid who discovers a sense of belonging among a group of peaceful skinheads. Having lost his father during the Falklands Conflict Shaun sees something of a father figure in Woody (Joseph Gilgun) the gangs leader. However the warmth and affection is shortlived as Combo (Stephen Graham) a former member of the group and radical rightwing racist is released from prison and divides the friends with his deeply disturbed outlook. Whereas Woody had strived to bring everyone together through their love of music Combo seeks to mobilise a force with his sights set on spreading chaos and hatred. At only 12 year of age and of volatile frame of mind Shaun is susceptible to Combos charismatic yet gravely dangerous philosophising. As adulthood beckons and with Combos rage manifesting into stark violence Shaun will have to decide which side of the line hes going to stand. The sixth feature from writer/Director Shane Meadows (A Room For Romeo Brass Dead Mans Shoes) This Is England is a bittersweet rites of passage tale that is destined to be remembered for years to come. True Blood Series 13 DVD

True Blood Series 13 DVD
Created by Six Feet Unders Alan Ball True Blood is like a sexier bloodier older sister to the relatively wellbehaved Twilight. This HBO drama is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries novels by Charlaine Harris a series set in a world where vampires have just begun to come out after a synthetic blood substitute called True Blood is introduced. Oscar winner Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse a telepathic waitress living in Bon Temps Louisiana who falls hard for Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) a Civil War veteran and vampire. But their romantic romps arent the only draw for the series: the existence between humans and vampires is an uneasy one and people are dying. Clothes fall to the floor almost as often as blood spatters the walls in this show that blends supernatural horror sex and mystery with just a little bit of social commentary thrown in for good measure. Executive producer Ball and his writers have shaped a variety of fascinating characters in addition to Sookie and Bill including Sookies mysterious boss Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell); her best friend Tara (Rutina Wesley); her womanising brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten); and her sweet grandmother Adele (Lois Smith). This collection presents the shows complete first second and series. Contains 15 discs. Cert 18.
