He hates rubbish and is always telling people to keep the riverside tidy. Flo Vandyke helps to navigate the 'Rose of Sylvania', but her main job is teaching everybody, no matter how old, how to swim. She always starts her classes by stressing how dangerous the river can be. Brook Vandyke is forever in trouble, not because he's naughty, but just plain nosy. He even got his head caught in a large storage jar trying to find out what was inside. Spring Vandyke is very artistic and is responsible for all the decorations on the 'Rose of Sylvania'. Fair Trade Crocheted Otter
ask seller a question Meet Odette the otter who comes from Bangladesh. Otters are really cute but you rarely see them as toys. Odette is here to change that and show you just how much fun an otter can be. In choosing Odette you will be helping sustain fairly paid employment in rural Bangladesh. She was hand crocheted there by women working in a none profit fairtrade organisation. The organisation helps keep families together by providing employment in a village setting close to the women's homes rather than in a city. Mothers are able to stay with their children and earn money to support them. The women decided to celebrate Bangladesh by making toys based on animals from the region and Odette proudly displays a Banglideshi flag on her tail. Odette would make a lovely gift to welcome a new baby or to take to a baby shower, naming ceremony, Christening or Baptism. She would also make a great birthday present for a baby or toddler. Odette is approximately 37 cm tall. She is machine washable at 40 degrees and can be tumble dried on a low setting. CE (European safety standard) certified and suitable from birth.

Natural World: On The Trail Of Tarka

Natural World: On The Trail Of Tarka
In 1927, Henry Williamson wrote Tarka the Otter, about the life and death of an otter in Devon. This film goes in search of Tarka's descendents. Do they still fish the same pools as their forebears? Williamson's otters were treated as vermin and were trapped and hunted for sport. Today the otter is an endangered species and our attitude towards it has changed. Do the lives of modern otters reflect this shift? Combining well-loved fiction with modern-day fact, this film contrasts the dramatic events of the novel with actual events from a modern otter's life.

Tarka the Otter
In the wild there is no safety. The otter cub Tarka grows up with his mother and sisters, learning to swim, catch fish - and to fear the cry of the hunter and the flash of the metal trap. Soon he must fend for himself, travelling through rivers, woods, moors, ponds and out to sea, sometimes with the female otters White-tip and Greymuzzle, always on the run. Eventually, chased by a pack of hounds, he meets his nemesis, the fearsome dog Deadlock, and must fight for his life.
