House Of Spirits - Holding On
$11.00
House Of Spirits - Holding On
House of Spirits is the church of sound over which Tom Noble presides, raising the congregation to ecstatic heights from his pulpit of passion. Noble's initial attempts at making music began like most collectors-cum-producers, lifting samples from worn records and re-purposing the dusty beats into efficient edits. Instead of lumbering in these limitations, Noble opted for a greater challenge by inviting musicians to transform his sketches into a widely - and wildly - dynamic live performance. The resulting studio celebration led to the euphoric Holding On / Keep Holding On 12" for Beats In Space Records.

Marcos Valle Vento Sui
$25.00
Marcos Valle Vento Sui
During the hot Brazilian summer of 1971, Marcos and Paulo Sergio Valle, along with their significant others and six additional couples, rented a few modest fisherman shacks in the small village of Búzios to escape from Rio's more populated beaches. The focus was making music and soul searching, as was the practice for affluent young hippies back then. They stayed for two months. "I wanted to go in a new direction," says Marcos looking back. "I wanted to try out a rock influence and to risk a little bit more." Shifting away from the studio musicians used on 1971's Garra, Vento Sul (translation "South Wind") was a rewarding collaboration with Brazilian progressive rockers O Terço. Originally released in 1972, Vento Sul not only channeled the Búzios beach bum vibe, but also manifested a floating dream like psychedelic sound. Any way you spin it, we at Light In The Attic are extremely proud to present Vento Sul as part of our four-album Marcos Valle reissue campaign. Consisting of an ambitious string of early 1970s landmark studio sessions (sympathetic in spirit to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye's game changing work from the same era) and released on CD and LP, Vento Sul (including a rare bonus track on the CD version) features extensive liner notes by San Francisco-based writer Allen Thayer (Wax Poetics) with exclusive interview content and song-by-song breakdown from Marcos himself. Fans new and old will finally have easy breezy access to these once hard-to-find Brazilian classics. Elevated by a strong union between Valle and O Terço, Vento Sul's magical spell of an album is a welcome addition to any South American friendly record collection and sits proudly with the best of Brazil.

Lord of The Isles - Galaxy Near You
$11.00
Lord of The Isles - Galaxy Near You
It's been nearly two years since the shadowy Lord Of The Isles began his own Little Strong imprint, and though this is only the second release on the label the man's been far from idle. With releases on ENE Japan, Phonica, and the Firecracker offshoots Unthank and Shevchenko, to name but a few, his name has earned plaudits from connoisseurs across the planet. Now he reappears with a package of delights showcasing still more of his signature sound, which simultaneously manages to evoke both colourful tropical climes and barren northern landscapes. 'Timeless' is a much misused word, but here it is truly applicable with the likes of 'Ossian's Hall' calling to mind ancient folk melodies and rhythms, post rave sunrise soundtracks, and utopian future visions. Meditative synth passages which are fast becoming the Lord's forte are present once more also, with 'Fey Folk' and 'Xatsiv' providing the calm which is so welcome in this world of quick fix rhythm tracks. Finally, 'Nustron' exists in that zone between the outer and inner worlds, between the dancefloor and the sofa, both very fine places to find oneself.

Autonomous Africa Vol 2

Autonomous Africa Vol 2
Many of the problems Africa faces are a result of outside interference by other countries, and as the 21st century progresses we will see the continued pillage of African resources to feed the global capitalist machine on an unprecedented scale. Corrupt and greedy regimes gladly sell their land and mineral wealth to finance their own extravagant lifestyles while the vast majority of ordinary people see little or no improvement in their own lives. An autonomous Africa run by the people for the people, where African land is predominantly used to feed African people and Africa's vast wealth of resources is used to benefit the people of Africa seems the only logical way forward. Autonomous Africa's goal is to highlight this message and here presents to you 4 tracks of African inspired grooves.

Sven Weisemann - Inner Motions
$35.00
Sven Weisemann - Inner Motions
Beautiful second album by Weisemann. Inner Motions he is focussing more on emotional club compatible tracks but does not lose sight of the demanding home listener at all. Over the course of 12 songs Sven excels with his very own trademark sound, the sound that became a big and important part of the unique Mojuba universe since it beginning in 2005 and was so inspiring for many people in the years to follow. Inner Motions tells a beautiful and adventurous story and makes you feel welcome right away. The plot of the album is inspired by electronic music's classic and timeless albums of the early and mid 90s and so every little track plays an important role to serve the album concept as whole listening experience! Even the recent other musical explorations by Sven Weisemann under various pseudonyms like Desolate, Phidias or Jouem can also be found reverberating in this oeuvre.

Vidal Benjamin presents Disco Sympathie

Vidal Benjamin presents Disco Sympathie
This October, the compilation Disco Sympathy will be released on Versatile. It's author is Vidal Benjamin, an outstanding DJ / digger, considered by his pals as one of the most brilliant in his category. And that says a lot! Here he makes us rediscover the sound that was so characteristic of a certain early eighties French scene: wacky, happy, dancing and at times even poetic. One begins to travel through an era during which the French producers were not afraid to tackle disco, American boogie, British and German synth wave, to present us their version: French, poppy and above all, fun. As a prelude, before releasing the compilation, Versatile has released this 45 rpm maxi, on which every track has undergone an editing treatment by mysterious French producers: Jean-Marc Misère (last sighted somewhere near London), DJ Ringardos (who, since his last Versatile release in 2008, chose Roman exile), ALT (already spotted on the Edits Du Golem and on the US label Black Disco), and of course Vidal Benjamin himself, accompanied by Gilbert Cohen - the boss.

Acteurs
The spores of TG breaking out all over. An Alternative bloodline of electronic music, as if interbreeding of Chicago and Industrial resulted in sleeper cells entering a long gestation all over the world. Genesis' postal network as the carrier. - 20 Jazz Funk Greats. And so Public Information splashes into 2013 with an almighty throb, pulse-tone generators at the ready. This is the debut record of malformed electronic-pop and modular fury from from Chicago two-piece Acteurs. From the chest-rattling kick of the opening track to the radon hailstorm of dub-techno epic Freezing Fog it's clear that the pair, Jeremy Lemos and Brian Case know their way around a mixing desk. Both have long, immaculate CVs with the cream of the US alternative scene, and here they stretch the studio to its limit. Acteurs: proponents of bass to make systems quiver, drums that punch the gloom, electronics to scythe and screech into darkest night - a psychedelic overload. Dream an Acteurs dream. Sodium street lights, grey smoke. Chromium staircases and black glass buildings. Acid rains. Cyberpunk racers. Dead TV channels. Amped-out brains. Come join their future-primitive world of stark and brutal groove, metallic avant-pop and precise mechanical funk.

Pick a Piper - Lucid in Fjords
Phonica Records welcome the latest addition to their ever-growing stable of talent, Pick A Piper! The brainchild of one Brad Weber, usually found behind the drum-kit at Caribou's live shows, Angus Fraser and Dan Roberts, Pick A Piper Combines dance-music structures, polyrhythmic percussion, atmospheric sound design, loopy melodies and a focus on electronics and production technique to create a sound poised between the organic and the synthetic and Phonica White have been blessed with two killer remixes to release on a limited stamped and numbered 12". On the A-side one half of Junior Boys and increasingly prolific producer in his own right, Jeremy Greenspan delivers his first ever solo remix! His reworking of "Lucid In Fjords" is one of the most epic tracks we've heard in a while - clocking in high on the BPM scale, Jeremy pulls out all the stops with an acid-tinged and dubby remix complete with covert pan flute sample. On the flip Phonica fave Dan Snaith, dons his Caribou alias for an uncharacteristically abstract remix of "Once Were Leaves". Moody and bass-heavy, it builds around two other-worldly vocal samples, one pitched down, one ethereal, working in tandem to create an atmospheric backdrop for Caribou's downbeat drum programming. This is Caribou showing off a different side to his productions, one we personally would like to hear more of! Limited vinyl pressing of 444 copies - hand stamped and numbered. Special artwork by Pedro Carvalho de Almeida.

Intimate Friends - NY AK
Second release on Marcel Vogel's Intimate Friends presents NY*AK's aptly titled THE TRUTH WILL FIND YOU. Pfff that was long. What truth will find us then? The truth that Detroit and New Castle's working class have a lot more in common then the eye meets. NY*AK channels his love and passion through 4 mid-tempo bangers, breathing incredibly soulful. How I feel reminisces of stripped down 80's Boogie with a heavy foot, while Makosa melts into a sweet piano loop. Empty Promises might be a kind of a theme song for Mr Scott, since the voice urges the listener to keep on pushing for his own fulfillment, no matter what friends & family. The Truth indeed has found him.

Frederick - Episode of Love

Frederick - Episode of Love
The mysterious Frederick is a rapidly-rising star, already recording for the likes of Restless Soul, Soul Free, Fifty Fathoms Deep and Local Talk and 'Episode of Love' is a sneaky preview of just what to expect from his debut album coming in 2014. "Episode of Love" in its original version is an exquisite slice of slo-mo house hypnotica whose tempo belies its laser-guided effectiveness on the dancefloor. A four note call and response horn-like synth pattern blasts over a chugging low-down acid house rhythm with Linn drums supplying electro-disco-dub echoes. Miseriedits first remixers Hot Lunch take the track to the low countries circa '87. On the flip Sean Johnston takes a moment from strutting the spaceways with Commander Weatherall to turn in yet another superb remix as Hardway Bros. Taking the track up through the gears and adding a drop of acid in the punch, in 1989 they'd have called it hypno-house. One that'll have you wringing the sweat out of that smiley t-shirt after some energetic dancing.

TM404 - Svans EP
$11.00
TM404 - Svans EP
TM404 aka Andreas Tilliander drops his first EP, after the celebrated debut album from earlier this year. TM404 is a project where Andreas Tilliander embarks on a conceptual journey through classic Roland machinery. In February we saw the light of his first album under the moniker and it is probably one of the best albums this year. Since then Andreas has toured the world with his huge bag of Roland gear, finally landing a gig at Richie Hawtins Enter club concept at Ibiza. This is no wonder. On the A-side of the Svans EP you can clearly hear the connection to Richie and his Plastikman project. The track 303/303/303/606/606 is heavy, slow grooving techno that brings the listener back to the dark emptiness of the Plastikman Consumed era. On the b-side the TM404 project is allowed elevated to new levels. With a Yamaha SY-1 and a Yamaha TG33 entering the machine park, TM404 for the first time, breaks his Roland oath and opens up the project to a future of new possibilities. During the development of the Svans EP this track actually went under the working title 'the summer hit'. Take a listen to the fine bassline, airy production and the Selected Ambient Works-inspired harmonies and sounds and you will know why. Welcome to over 12 minutes of pure old school bliss. To be played really loud on a very good soundsystem.

Present, as always are the deft rhythm sections and powerful arrangements, as subtle elements of Disco, Techno & New Wave provide the bedrock for his trademark off kilter melodies and soundscaping. The darker underbelly of club life may well be the inspiration, but the mood and execution are pure Tiago! Another beauty then from this outstanding, diverse and incomparable imprint.

"PUSH" a pounding 606 beat and heavy vocal that flirts with both Hip-Hop and experimental Electro with the signature twisted Pintado vocal and instrumental improvisations inspired by the cult classic movie "Black Devil Doll From Hell." "Patience The Wheel" is collaboration between composer/pianist Jonathan Dryden who has recorded/performed with everyone from David Byrne to Herbie Hancock and is a Waits esq whisky soaked tale of waking up in unknown places with unrecognizable faces. Ghosts on Tape - No Guestlist

Ghosts on Tape - No Guestlist
When San Francisco's ICEE HOT launched its own record label last fall with a new record from Ghosts On Tape (one of the party's founders), there was a lot of talk about how quiet he's been in recent years. Now, a mere nine months later, that's all changed. Following the release of 'Nature's Law,' Ghosts On Tape has been on an absolute tear, dropping numerous remixes and turning out new tunes at a blinding clip. At this point, he's built up a solid reserve of dance floor weapons, and ICEE HOT is thrilled to begin unleashing it upon the world. 'No Guestlist' is the first salvo, and it's an absolute stormer. Combining the brash spirit of classic Chicago with Ghosts On Tape's drum-heavy sensibilities, the much sought-after tune has been lighting up ICEE HOT for months and is poised to do some major damage. The producer's own 'Underground Mix' takes things deeper, albeit while keeping the sass of the original version intact. Finnish producer Arttu has also been enlisted to remix 'No Guestlist,' and kicks off the b-side with a playful and light-hearted take that employs snapping drum patterns and gleefully lilting melodies. Rounding out the record is another Ghosts On Tape original, 'Still Got the Feeling,' a darker, slower burning cut that reflects just how effective he can be when experimenting with a more techno-flavoured template.

Boardwalk - I'm To Blame
In the Summer of 2012, Boardwalk duo Mike Edge and Amber Quintero were introduced by mutual friends in Los Angeles. Although both were involved in different musical projects (Mike contributing his musical and production know-how, Amber contributing her vocal ability), an undeniable creative chemistry made itself present between the two within a short time of introduction. This chemistry sparked a curiosity that could only be satiated by a collaboration of minds. The creative compatibility test came one day on an impromptu road trip. The elements involved were basic yet obligatory: a guy, a girl, a car, the open road. The trip yielded the birth of the unique sound that is Boardwalk. Featuring analog sounds and vocal melodies over dreamy instrumental layers, this 7" features the tracks "I'm To Blame" and "Crying" from their forthcoming debut self-titled album on Stones Throw.

Gnod Shit and Shine Collision
$25.00
Gnod Shit and Shine Collision
Realistically it was only a matter of time before Gnod and Shit & Shine shared a slab of vinyl together, and it only seems fitting that this 'meeting of minds' is the latest instalment of Rocket Recordings Collisions series, following splits by The Heads/White Hills and Oneida/Mugstar. The first track to kick off this Collisions is Shitting through the eye of a needle in a haystack by the mighty Gnod. For the uninitiated, Gnod are an ever changing collective from Manchester that centres around four key members, who have been exploring and pushing repetitive experimentation through the filters of kraut, drone, space rock and industrial rave for several years now. Rightly earning themselves the title of one of 'the best live bands in UK right now'. This track see's Gnod replace their usual live drumming with drum machines. Mixing heavy sounding rhythms with the heavy echo and studio effects of dub. The track recalls the great 'This Heat' and 'PIL' as well as the Wax Tracks bands of the late 80's and the post dub-step sounds of artists like 'Shackleton', while still remaining entirely all Gnod. Next up is Shit & Shine with their track Ladies Circles. Shit & Shine have been disembowelling the underground music scene for several years now with impressive albums on labels such as Riot Season, Load, Southern etc. Originally based in UK now in Texas USA, Shit & Shine like Gnod is an ever changing beast that means you are never quite sure what you are going to get. For this Collisions LP, which is their first release for Rocket, they have delivered possibly one their finest tracks to date.

Next up on Deep Distance following a full sold out back catalogue thus far (Kosmonaut / JD Emmanuel / Kohn etc) is the long promised mighty new EXPO 70 full length. Released as a pressing of 500 only on mauve, red and black splatter wax with embossed DD insert. The LP features 3 extended jams from the latter days of the working relationship between mainman Justin Wright and Matt Hill (prior to his wonderful recordings under the 'Umberto' moniker). Recently unearthed by Justin specifically for this vinyl release (although watch out for an extended version for cassette only later) the set starts with the wonderful zoned out pulse of "Acerbic Lament" interspersed by JW's piercing guitar tones and textures. "Winter of Discontent" is more organic, otherworldly and in places reminiscent of some of the early Popol Vuh catalogue. The reverse features the epic sidelong "Ceremony of the Blind", constituting 3 parts and to these ears represents one of the finest sides to the huge Expo 70 catalogue. A compelling cosmic soundscape punctuated by evolving waves of carefully constructed synth and guitar drone with flurries of percussive pulse, particularly on the closing section "Eternal The Night". Another essential addition to the ever growing Expo 70 collection- a one off pressing on gorgeous coloured wax with 2 inserts in awesome JW designed sleeve, expected to sell out quickly.

Ultramarine - This Time Last Year

Ultramarine - This Time Last Year
'This Time Last Year' is the sixth album by UK electronic duo Ultramarine (Ian Cooper & Paul Hammond), and their first full-length release for 15 years. Featuring all-new material and recorded in the band's isolated studio on the edge of the Essex marshes, the album ebbs and flows in mood like the nearby Blackwater estuary. Working with a palette of vintage drum machines, analogue synths, textural samples, acoustic recordings, electric bass & heavily treated guitar, the songs were born out of captured live studio performances. Cooper and Hammond then rewired their initial sketches through a series of hands-on, lo-fi effects chains, blurring the edges between acoustic and electronic elements. The result is an organic, playful feel, leaving the music room to breathe and carrying distinct echoes of the band's previous work.

Eat Lights Become Lights - Modular Living
Following the quick fire sell out and widespread acclaim of the bands' second LP "Heavy Electrics" in 2012, ELBL release their third full length via The GPS and Rocket Girl, just in time for Summer. Building on the bands' trademark multi layered motorik groove, "Modular Living" adds a more organic, electronic approach in places. Where once, listening to Eat Lights might have focused perhaps on the adored kraut groove of Neu! / La Dusseldorf etc, "Modular Living" seems to add the key ingredients of slow burning Popol Vuh and Cluster-esque pieces into the mix. Eternally building and evolving resulting in a far better balanced listen than the previous full lengths, arguably. The momentum attained with the last LP should build nicely here- rave reviews were pretty common spread via the likes of Stuart Maconie's "Freak Zone", Andrew Weatherall's 6music show and Gideon Coe. Even a year on, tracks from "Heavy Electrics" are aired pretty regularly so the new full length comes at the perfect time for long-term devotees and the newcomer alike.

Petar Dundov - Sailing Off The Grid
Dundov's third album, Sailing Off The Grid, expands on the lush, intricate synth explorations of his previous two releases, but sees him delve further still into those realms, invoking the spirit of classic ambient and synth-based music of decades gone by. While the album spans just eight tracks, each track clocks in over seven minutes, and some almost double that length. Each is slow-burning, expansive, gradually unfolding to reveal more of itself and to develop its motifs and sentiments without the often hurried constraints of the dancefloor (or even more so, the radio). This is an album to be consumed in its entirety, not for those with short attention spans or iPod playlists on their mind. As well as the glorious aesthetic of this record, it's clear that this third album is indebted to the greats of the synthesizer world. The album imparts a - whisper it - almost Balearic sensuality, with a real sense of humanity elicited from Dundov's array of machines by way of ever-changing melodies and patterns, giving the sense of a spontaneous, freestyle approach to synth playing and constructing tracks. If his first two albums unearthed his wider musical talents, Sailing Off The Grid is the one that sees him blossom into an incredibly accomplished and ever-more-intriguing producer.

Beau Wanzer Svengalisghost - CCCP2
Following hot on the heels of his long awaited release on L.I.E.S. Beau Wanzer brings the full firepower to the A-side of CCCP02. 'Hey Hey Hey Hey' is the sound of a Chicago basement from inside the speaker cabs, as a rolling Juke rhythm is accompanied by distorted drones and a low end rumble. This shit's raw yo. 'Hoedown' also has more than a hint of windy city flair about it, combining a jacking rhythm with a sonic boom of white noise distortion, a nagging synth line hidden under a mass of murk and the occasional super slo mo vocal. Ron Hardy would be proud. On the flip, Svengalisghost goes straight to the witching hour with the twilight zone techno of 'The Booth'. Employing haunting vocal snippets washed in echo and reverse reverb, on top of a murderous techno bassline and undulating top melody, Sven (as he's possibly known to his friends) twists the track inside out and takes your brain along for the ride. One for the pitch black rooms out there. Last but not least, 'Dark Mistress' is a blurred and hazy analogue techno track that brings to mind the wave of New N.Y. producers (Mister Saturday Night, Anthony Naples, Huerco S), with its shifting synth washes and restrained percussion.

Nicely has been making music from the 70s onwards, but his music has recently undergone something of a critical reappraisal, with the likes of Robert Wyatt and Robyn Hitchcock supposedly inspired by his work, 'Wrottersley Road' provides the ideal entry into his music, a masterful piece of shoegaze pop filled with fuzzed out guitars and Eastern psychedelic tones. Remixes are provided by Invisible Hands, who deliver a minimal 80s inspired electro-pop version, which comes saturated in radiophonic textures, and The Oscillation, who take the track into even more abstract ambient territory than the original, deep into a place where time seems to stand still entirely, drawing its rich textures out into infinity.

These tracks come from different points of his career and are stripped down functional pieces made for the DJ even if that was not their initial intention.

Neighbour Lightbreaking EP
$11.00
Neighbour Lightbreaking EP
The latest release from Home Breakin' is from their very own uber-prolific Neighbour. As can be expected, 'Light Breaker' is another slice of high quality synthpop - all dreamy, yearning vocals, chugging rhythms and hazy synth melodies. There's a whole range of top notch mixes too with Cyclist's raucous disco-rock version and Tad Wily's shimmering hiNRG rework, and watch out for 6th Borough Project's 'A' mix which distils everything down to a sleazy minimal tropical grind.

Pocketknife - Canyon Dancing 2
$11.00
Pocketknife - Canyon Dancing 2
This 4-track EP sees the studio warlock Pocketknife reshaping more of his art rock and pagan pop favourites into outré dance numbers that began with Canyon Dancing (Flagrant Fowl) a few years back. With a focus on hypnotic driving percussion, gurgling synth additions, and murky vocal treatments, songs from the catalogues of Mi Ami, Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice, LA Vampires with Zola Jesus and Religious Knives receive the Pocketknife touch. Canyon Dancing 2 continues the party for the adventurous.
