NYC born, Carolyn Compres is the author and Founder the C Statement and a contributor to Taste The Style. She's a Fashion Merchandising student, wife and mama of two who feeds on chocolate and vino. She's an amazing example of a young mum with an exquisite sense of style and our Influencer Focus this week! We caught up with Carolyn and talked about current go-to items, her personal style and all that behind-the-scenes-work that goes in maintaining a blog today.

What compelled you to start a blog?#500050">

I had always wanted to do it but it wasn’t until I gave birth to my first daughter and had to spend a lot of my time at home that I did it. I didn’t feel like I could be at an office from 9-5 because my daughter was too young and I just couldn’t do leave her (first baby problems). Doing this really made me think of things I could do from home and that I was still passionate about, and it occurred to me that I had always wanted to blog. I had a lot of fears, especially the fear of being judged but I got passed them and did it. I am extremely glad I did because I couldn’t be happier with what I have accomplished in a year.#500050">

What's your relationship with fashion? How did it start and what motivates you to keep at it?

Ever since I was a little girl I was extremely passionate about dressing up. I guess it started by seeing my mom and looking at her dress up, it just made me really interested in fashion. I used to collect Vogue Magazines back when I lived in the Dominican Republic and I knew I wanted to dress like those people I saw on the magazines. It’s not hard to keep motivated at it because I feel it comes naturally but sometimes I get a ‘fashion block’ just like writers do and that’s when it becomes a little harder.#500050">

How would you define your personal style? Do you have any icons people accounts that you follow?#500050">

I don’t have a definition for my personal style. I would like to think I am a chameleon, I am willing to try anything at all and I guess that what makes my style. When it comes to inspiration, my biggest inspiration is everyone and everything I see on the streets of NY. Instagram accounts that inspire me are @alwaysjudging and @mirandamakaroff. Both very different styles, but they inspire me in so many ways on a daily basis.#500050">

What do you enjoy most about mixing and matching high street with high end clothing i.e. from YOOX?#500050">

To me, it has always been about the clothing. It doesn’t matter what brands I am shopping or how much does it cost, all that matters is that I like it and I think that’s what I love about it. Using clothes that you are genuinely proud of wearing and not because someone is paying you or because it is socially acceptable to wear it.#500050">

Can you give us 3 styling rules that you abide by?#500050">

I don’t think there are any rules in fashion and that’s what I love about it. You should wear whatever you feel like wearing and forget about the rules.#500050">

What are your current go-to items when getting ready in the morning?#500050">

My current go-to items in the morning are my white Mango boots, my Gucci belt, and my Tory Burch sweater (Its freezing in NY).#500050">

What's the biggest misconception about having your own blog?#500050">

I think the biggest misconception about having a blog is that you need to wear certain items, or that you need to follow certain rules. Be yourself, be confident, and don’t give a shit about what others think.#500050">

What's your morning routine? (makeup beauty styling breakfast)#500050">

I love skin care, and it’s something I want to talk a lot more about with my audience. Although it might sound vain, but your face is so important because everything you do with it people will see. There is no covering up, although makeup helps it isn’t magic. That’s why having a good beauty routine is important, I am still learning about my face therefor not claiming to know anything about it but the most important thing about my morning routine is my skincare routine, I wash my face with Avène : Cleanance Gel, then I tone with Caudalie: Beauty Elixir, then I essence with SK-II: Facial Treatment Essence, then I use a serum from the Glossier 3 pack and then moisturize with Avène: Cleanance Expert, and finish with Milk Makeup’s: Cooling Water for under eye puffiness and  Sunshine Skin Tint which contains both SPF and a little bit of preservative free foundation. I am not a breakfast person but I always have a Starbucks Grande Nonfat Capuccino to go!

What projects are you working on now?#500050">

There are many exciting projects on the works. A lot of brand collaborations coming at the end of the month and then there are other personal projects I am little too superstitious to tell just yet.

A trend set to update every wardrobe in 2018 is white accessories. Think patent shoes and monochrome bags. The great thing about this bag l, like black or tan accessories, is that it goes with everything. I've always steered clear of wearing white before summer, save for white shirts, but I think this will be completing our outfits much earlier in the year and I think I'm onboard. What are your favourite colours to accessorise with? Image: #elle.com

As we move closer towards winter months and brace ourselves for chilly weather, less daylight and more time indoors sipping a hot cup of coffee or wine - our wardrobes also transition. During this time of changing seasons we want to feel comfortable, yet elegant and stylish - oversized sweaters and all of that hygge feeling!

Winter is really about individual style, as more materials require greater stylistic flair. The good thing is you can find the best selection of premium quality products all under one roof. YOOX, provides without fail a wide choice of hard-to-find clothing and accessories from the most prestigious designers.

From beautifully crafted mules and cross-body bags at Prada, to party dresses at CELINE, to a plethora of bold patterns at Emilio Pucci, to severe diva vibes at Balmain and all your athleisure essentials at Rick Owens and Stella McCartney.

PARTY LOOK

You can pair a sleek Alaia dress with a faux fur leopard print coat, high stilleto heels and a bold lip for a night out with the girls.

COMFY LUXE

Cashmere, velvet and leather as well as luxe chunky knitwear are very on trend for this winter. You can dress them down with a classic pair of denim jeans and ankle boots or pair a chunky knit with a leather skirt and thigh high boots for party look that is both chic yet relaxed.

STATEMENT COATS

This season it's all about statement coats that keep us warm and are utterly chic at the same time. Think a long streamlined brown CELINE coat for a trenchcoat alternative, a cool bomber jacket from Emilio Pucci or go for a romantic cape from CHLOE.

SUITED UP

From Stella McCartney to Victoria Beckham the suiting trend is inspired by power women especially Hillary Rodham Clinton and has made a serious comeback. From checks, to white sleek suits from Moschino and Jil Sander to buttoned-ups with tie at Roberto Cavalli, there's no way you can go wrong with the 2017's version of the power working girl.

Winter is all about spending quality time with loved ones and we think it's time to treat them to a little gift. We're pleased to announce that from Sunday October 29th through Tuesday October 31st, YOOX is offering up to 25% off your favorite designer styles.

I have a soft spot for editorial makeup. I see this photoshoot as an interpretation of winter. With the pale skin and dark raven hair of the model, the makeup artist use a white mascara on her lashes to make them look as they were cover by tiny snow flakes. This is not the first time i seen this tecnique for winter ice inspired looks. Celebrity Makeup Artist, Ariel Tejada also use white mascara and iridiscent glitter on the lashes of Kylie Jenner for her Snow Angel Costume on Halloween Night. I love white mascara for special effects, but would you wear it on a daily basis? Photo Credit: Pinterest #makeuplook #beauty #winter #snowangel #editorialmakeup #trend #AW17

Boot season is here! Well white boots were trendy in the summer too but now it is officially boot season. This year like the previous ones, thigh high boots are still on trend. The higher the better… Thigh high boots are taking over street wear. Previously black ones being worn, this season like any other trend it is all about the coloured and patterned ones. So try the thigh high trend once again with upgraded colours… #trend #style #boots #thighhigh #thighhighboots #streetstyle #winter #fall

This week we're completely crushing over a piece of accessory that looks like it emerged from the 80's due to its architectural form. Jacquemus is one of those brands that can bring a sense of haute couture to the simplest of accessories. His designs make a bold confident statement without diminishing the elegance of the item.

Take the Sac Rond for example. It features a signature curved top handle and gold-tone metal chain embellishments which are in line with the AW17 runway show. The shoulder strap is detachable making it both a perfect morning and evening accessory. The bag is quite versatile and therefore incredibly easy to style.

Go for a full monochrome sleek pantsuit look for evening or wear it with denim and a white shirt for the day look. If you want to accentuate the 80's nostalgia vibe, go for a sleek low bun, a bold red lip and chunky gold earrings.

Have a look at out gallery for more Jacquemus inspiration and shop the look below!
