Louisa Drake is a force to be reckoned with. A fitness expert, business founder and a serious source of lifestyle inspo, Louisa recently launched LDM, a fitness and lifestyle brand built on the principles of her own inclusive training method and her no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

We caught up with her to find out more about LDM, her motivations and of course, her style both in and out of the studio…

So how does your method work? How can LDM sessions influence your lifestyle?

At LDM we focus on body confidence and effective training techniques that educate clients on what their individual bodies need. My Method offers a host of fitness disciplines – cardio, conditioning, resistance and stretch – to keep the mind and body guessing and strengthen the muscles you use daily.

Our whole approach is to encourage confidence, so the Fitzrovia and Muswell Hill studios are a welcoming space where our instructors will calmly guide you through a class, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and well worked, but never worked up and stressed.

Who can take part in LDM classes?

LDM classes are accessible to anyone, regardless of their experience, fitness level, shape or size. We have two boutique studios in London, where you can access small group classes and private training daily. We also have LDM online video subscriptions and range of fitness equipment and apparel for taking part at home.

What inspired you to launch LDM – tell us about your journey...

After a professional dance career I started to transition into teaching dance and fitness. I was known for my unique style and had several disciplines under my belt but I realised there was something lacking from the workouts I was doing as a client at other gyms and studios.

I saw a gap for doing things my way and created LDM. After combining the best bits of popular disciples such as yoga, HIIT, Pilates to name just a few I created my signature total body workout that ticks all the boxes in one session – the Shape Changer, the perfect balance of cardio and conditioning material.

Next month we celebrate our first birthday at our Fitzrovia studio which offers a range of LDM classes that are constantly being fine tuned to suit our clients’ needs.

What does the word ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness really sums up being at your optimal best physically and mentally. For me it’s about finding the right balance – time to focus on my changing needs, to honour my own rhythms and have the energy to achieve everything I need.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

My clients. Most mornings I’m either up early teaching group classes or I’m with a private client. The occasion I have a morning free, I’ll top up on sleep or schedule some time for myself on the mat.

How important do you think physical health is to how happy and confident we feel?

Massively important. It should be the main reason you choose to work out and aesthetics are the bonus. The natural high we get from exercise is what keeps you committed.

What about fashion and style – can what we wear make us happy?

Absolutely, wearing something that helps you feel happy will be the reason your posture improves which will then be part of the reason your confidence improves and you carry yourself differently. You can express yourself through fashion and your own unique take on it.

What are your feel-good outfits for work, the weekend and going out?

I spend a lot of time in activewear and when I'm working out and training clients it’s all about supportive, feel-good fabrics. I select a sweat-wicking product that’s going to work hard for me when I’m back to back and versatile items that mean after a quick change I’m ready to go from studio to meeting.

When I’m off-duty it’s a mix of denim, fun prints, slogan tees and a vintage feel is always present in my style. For going out I add some standout accessories, switch a trainer for shoe and opt for a dress or cool jumpsuit.

What about your favourite brands?

Activewear brands such as Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Lucas Hugh, Nike and Adidas keep me supported and stylish. For tees and sweaters I like British brand Double Trouble Gang – we collaborated on some limited edition LDM sweaters & hoodies. I also love brands such as Etre Cecile and Sezane for an injection of fun prints and slogan pieces.

Free People, Reformation, ADAY, Faithfull the brand, Ganni and the Vampire’s Wife are labels I gravitate towards. I have some great jackets from Zoe Karssen, Whistles and Acne and my accessories are a mix of high street, vintage and investment pieces from Hill and Friends, Sezane, Laura Lee and Missoma.

I’m often in trainers by Adidas, Nike and APL and I’m currently loving the Stella McCartney x Adidas Parley shoes made from recycled ocean plastics – they work for all cardio based workouts. Veja make eco-friendly Parisian cool trainers that I like for off-duty and I also like Russell & Bromley, Birkenstock, Soludos, Hobbs and Miu Miu.

What’s next for you and for LDM?

Plans are underway to open a bigger standalone LDM studio in London where clients can still benefit from small boutique group fitness and private training with more space and amenities. We have some exciting opportunities in the pipeline and I’m working hard to build up our online LDM video offerings, so we are accessible not just in London but anywhere and at anytime. Watch this space…

You've planned ahead and made the guest list, booked the venue, the photographer and picked out the cake. But as the big day approaches and the planning piles up, the stress kicks in and your skin suffers. Of all the special events in your life, this is probably the one where you’ll want to look and feel your best so we’ve put together a guide to help you. The pre-wedding skincare guide…

For your face

Kick things off by establishing a routine. Start with a deep cleanse that meticulously cleans and helps soften, liquefy and wash away dirt and debris. Then it's time for exfoliation to remove dead skin cells from your face and start work on smooth, fresh skin. For a professional exfoliation treatment, try microdermabrasion or use gentle exfoliating scrubs, peels and acid exfoliators at home. Follow with a Vitamin C-infused serum and then a moisturizing cream that induces collagen and elastin production, calms inflammation and stimulates your skin's blood flow. Editor's tip: Massage your face in a circular upwards motion every day when applying your moisturizer for better results.

For your body

Even if you're not interested in shedding a few pounds, exercise will help you tone up and boost your endorphins which helps to fight stress and promote a healthy glow. Pilates, and personal training are great options, but if you're looking for a fun inexpensive way to lower your cortisol levels, put your running shoes on and head outside. Indulge in a weekly bath with salts to relieve muscle tension from your workout. Exfoliate your skin with a luxe sugar scrub and apply a rich body moisturizer or oil.

Editor’s tip:  For the perfect pre-wedding glow, add a few drops of self tan to your moisturizer. Just remember to wear gloves or wash your hands afterwards.

Voila! Your pre-wedding beauty routine is complete. Shop our edit of the best beauty tools to use below…

The past few years  Alicia Vikander has been going from strength to strength both in her acting roles but in her style evolution as well. Her break out year was 2015 when she released seven films, won an academy award for her role as Gerta in the  Danish Girl and landed her first Vogue cover, too. This Oscar winner obviously knows a thing or two about style. She sports unapologetic vibes in her new movie as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider after gaining six kilos of muscle and donned combat shorts and double revolver's to portray the action heroine.

Apart from her action star wardrobe, her fashion credentials are more aspirational including a gig as a Louis Vuitton spokesmodel. It doesn't hurt that Vikander is graceful and poised due to her rigorous dance training at the Swedish Royal Ballet School. She continues to carry that Scandi chic factor working with stylist Victoria Sekrier taking her through awards seasons, premieres and appearances, striking a balance between fashion innovation and nonchalance. Even though her looks are timeless, Vikander likes to blend muted minimal options with sleek tailoring and neutral colours with a few boho details creating her own unique style (a mix of the Marc Jacobs and Chloe girl).

As a model and muse for Nicholas Ghesquiere's Louis Vuitton, she always looks flawless on the red carpet with diverse outfits from high-necked gowns or strapless finds. Other designer favourites include Gucci, Rodarte, McQueen, and emerging brands like Barbara Casasola. If you want to infuse a bit of her everyday style try a long boho skirt a top denim jacket and mules. For an evening look go for the GANNI lace black dress paired with strappy sandals and a crossbody tiny evening bag.

So you have just signed up for many workout classes that are located at a convenient distance from your flat or office. Thankfully, workouts have evolved into a fun experience far from the tedious repetition of the coventional gym. From a zumba class, to ballet and barrecore, HIIT training or Hot Yoga, there's definitely a class for you.

If you're making the effort to join your nearest gym or dance class you may as well look stylish while breaking a sweat. After figuring out your special athletic gear, including your sports bra leggings and trainers it's time for gym bag research. In this case, you will want to invest in a bag that is both chic and practical. Focus on styles with different compartments for shoes, makeup kit, fresh change of clothes and valuables. Multiple straps are also great if you want to carry your bag on your shoulder or by hand. And a little tip before you sign up for every single workout class close to your apartment or office why not prioritise the workouts that actually make you happy and that you're more likely to follow all year long?

Moving from office to the gym and bag means that you have to do it in style. And though a tiny bag might be appealing (thank you Kendall Jenner!) might not be practical for you. If you have a locker at the gym feel free to sport a fanny pack or tiny bag. It will actually save you the trouble of carrying your bag from the office or at least you can sport it to after gym drinks with ease. On the other hand, you can also go for a more classic choice of an oversized duffle bag where you can store your energy drink, protein bar, towels and a clean set of clothes. There, you're all workout ready!

Kate Moss turned 44 today, and for more than 20 years she has been infusing the fashion industry with her unique sense of grunge and boho style, her edge and her overall completely effortlessly elegant aesthetic. The truth is that she has had an excellent training of top designers, stylists and fellow models that have worked with her. So she has developed her unique formula of Kate Moss style that relies on a few simple style rules. Shopcade investigates.

1. Go for an edgy denim

We 've always associated denim with Kate Moss but she's always gone for the denim underdog - the styles that weren't on trend at the time. From low-cut skinny jeans to wide -legged jeans and animal print she's worn all kind of styles and it has always been ahead of their time. Kudos!

2. Quality

Moss is not a fan of the high street. Even though she has launched many successful fashion lines with Topshop she always goes for quality. One of her favourite past times is discovering second-hand clothing from Portobello market.

3. Timeless Prints

You could say that Moss is a print queen. She loves her leopard print, polka dots and a few 70s funky patterns. But she always goes for the ones with classic appeal. She would never go too crazy which explains her effortless yet edgy look.

4. Jewellery

When she wants to draw attention from the clothes she turns to jewellery and diamonds to be exact. From 19th-century drop earrings to sapphire and ruby bangles she knows how to make any dab outfit spark.

Giving the gift of a head start on a ‘get fit’ New Year’s resolution or registering a loved one’s favourite sport is a brilliant move. Not only will they think of you (and silently thank you) as they pull on their new gear come January, you’re setting them up for a happier and healthier 2018. That surely trumps anything else they’re likely to receive and might even spur them to try something new or on to greater goals. And after such a party-focused and indulgent holiday, it’s welcome relief.

If you know their size, new training tights or trainers will keep runners on track. A new football or basketball will lead to fun and social workouts, and who wouldn’t like their own personal weights or yoga mat to use at home or at the gym. It’s much more hygienic. Everyone can use a reusable water bottle, which is better for the environment than throwaway plastic ones, and the subliminal motivation to drink more water; while a Fitbit will tell the time and monitor their progress. For those who like sports but don’t necessarily participate, a team jersey is a great way to expand their wardrobe so they can fly their fan flag with pride.

Our influencer for the week is the well-known stylist Prayag Menon (Insta handle: @prayagm_v). Prayag’s foray into the industry was incidental when he began styling shoots on his own at home, as an outlet for creative exploration. Completely self-taught and with no formal training, Prayag draws inspiration from his perspective on lifestyle, aspiration and the people he interacts with. His work resonates a sense of minimalism and timelessness. Read on to know more about him.

1) Being a commercial pilot, how did you get into styling?
A) I was always interested in fashion. Though the leap from pilot to stylist was a happy accident! My partner (photographer Porus Vimadalal) who’d recently entered the industry at the time was to collaborate on a test shoot with a stylist, but she had to cancel a day prior due to unforeseen circumstances; and I offered to jump in to style the shoot. I remember everyone really liked the shoot when it was out, and subsequent to that Porus encouraged me to start styling. I also started getting offers to work on other shoots and there was no looking back since. I am completely self-taught and have learnt consistently from each shoot I’ve worked on.

2) What’s your personal style all about?
A) Clean and restrained mostly. I like incorporating a sense of balance in terms of colours and silhouette.

3) Do you remember your first fashion shoot? Tell us more about it.
A) It was in the summer of 2013. We worked with some beautiful Roberto Cavalli gowns that a friend had recently acquired. The model was the beautiful Rasika Navare; now one of my closest friends. We shot a series of pictures in a studio and I still have that shoot in my portfolio; it's classic and beautiful.

4) Who are the photographers you love working with and why?
A) My partner Porus Vimadalal is definitely someone I love working with the most. I have learnt a great deal from him ever since I got into fashion. We have grown together in the industry and our aesthetics are completely aligned, which makes every shoot experience with him seamless and wonderful.

5) What are some of the biggest challenges that you face as a stylist?
A) One of the biggest challenges is dealing with commercial clients and a set brief which is not always familiar to your aesthetic. I have learnt from experience that it is necessary to stand by your opinion and choose how much you want to budge. It's fine to meet someone half way, but provided its mutual.

6) What are some of the things you do to get inspired for a concept shoot?
A) My work is straightforward in terms of fashion being the focal point. Inspiration arrives via many mediums; it could be a story I read somewhere, or someone I meet, or just my imagination. I then pick a trend which appeals to me and add it to connect the story. Conceptualisation and ideation are an organic process for me, I don't spend time consciously researching/studying or following a particular method.

7) What are you currently working on?
A) To name a few projects; I have a fashion editorial that is out in this month’s issue of ELLE India. I have also styled Verve Magazine's February cover story, and then I've worked on Miuniku's SS17 lookbook along with some more exciting projects releasing over the next few months.

8) What would be a dream collaboration for you?
A) I'd like to work with Marion Cotillard.

9) What or who has greatly influenced your work and how?
A) The women I've met in my life have played a huge role in the development of my work. These aren't necessarily women who are in the fashion industry; they come from diverse backgrounds. My relationships with them influenced and heightened my love for understated elegance, the idea of a lifestyle that is more cultivated and refined, not ostentatious. Through my work, I like depicting women as assertive and effortless; attributes inspired from the women in my life - independent and fearless, who live/have lived life on their own terms, and who make their own life choices.

10) What’s the best thing about being a stylist?
A) For me; the best thing is how work doesn't feel like work. It is something I truly enjoy, and never tire of.

11) Favorite fall trend you can’t seem to get over?
A) Velvet!

12) What advice would you give to a young stylist who is just starting out?
A) Start easy, explore different sensibilities before you settle into what your comfort zone is. It's totally okay to make mistakes and learn from them. It’s important to constantly seek inspiration in what’s around you. The most important pearl of wisdom I was imparted with, and that I'd like to share is: Do not seek approval from others. Take constructive advice but in the end just do what you really believe in. Your style should be an extension of who you are as a person.
