Only a few days left until Black Friday and we're already creating wishlists, and researching crossing and adding items that we can hopefully find for a bargain! When looking for top quality pieces straight from Fifth Avenue, there's only really one name that stands out: Lord & Taylor, with the visionary Dorothy Shaver at the helm leading it through an unprecedented period of expansion, was brilliant in showcasing the work of truly innovative American fashion designers. For Black Friday, Lord & Taylor are offering an eclectic edit of products to accompany us through the season at almost half the price!

If you saved up all year, now is the time to splurge on key items from Lord & Taylor and re-invent your winter wardrobe. Starting with your outerwear, take your pick from a vast array of luxe puffer coats in a multitude of colors, hues and silhouettes. Go for a seasonal favourite like a rich faux-fur coat or a sleek raincoat in a poppy tomato-red color!

Opt for a long parka with a faux-fur hoodie and enjoy the best of both coat worlds! For tops, go for a chunky knit with a bold pattern such as stripes or intricate designs. If you're going for a more classic look, then choose a monochrome knit or sweater and pair it with your favorite jeans. Go for a comfy long cardigan over a Xmas top and get in the true holiday spirit!

NYC born, Carolyn Compres is the author and Founder the C Statement and a contributor to Taste The Style. She's a Fashion Merchandising student, wife and mama of two who feeds on chocolate and vino. She's an amazing example of a young mum with an exquisite sense of style and our Influencer Focus this week! We caught up with Carolyn and talked about current go-to items, her personal style and all that behind-the-scenes-work that goes in maintaining a blog today.

What compelled you to start a blog?#500050">

I had always wanted to do it but it wasn’t until I gave birth to my first daughter and had to spend a lot of my time at home that I did it. I didn’t feel like I could be at an office from 9-5 because my daughter was too young and I just couldn’t do leave her (first baby problems). Doing this really made me think of things I could do from home and that I was still passionate about, and it occurred to me that I had always wanted to blog. I had a lot of fears, especially the fear of being judged but I got passed them and did it. I am extremely glad I did because I couldn’t be happier with what I have accomplished in a year.#500050">

What's your relationship with fashion? How did it start and what motivates you to keep at it?

Ever since I was a little girl I was extremely passionate about dressing up. I guess it started by seeing my mom and looking at her dress up, it just made me really interested in fashion. I used to collect Vogue Magazines back when I lived in the Dominican Republic and I knew I wanted to dress like those people I saw on the magazines. It’s not hard to keep motivated at it because I feel it comes naturally but sometimes I get a ‘fashion block’ just like writers do and that’s when it becomes a little harder.#500050">

How would you define your personal style? Do you have any icons people accounts that you follow?#500050">

I don’t have a definition for my personal style. I would like to think I am a chameleon, I am willing to try anything at all and I guess that what makes my style. When it comes to inspiration, my biggest inspiration is everyone and everything I see on the streets of NY. Instagram accounts that inspire me are @alwaysjudging and @mirandamakaroff. Both very different styles, but they inspire me in so many ways on a daily basis.#500050">

What do you enjoy most about mixing and matching high street with high end clothing i.e. from YOOX?#500050">

To me, it has always been about the clothing. It doesn’t matter what brands I am shopping or how much does it cost, all that matters is that I like it and I think that’s what I love about it. Using clothes that you are genuinely proud of wearing and not because someone is paying you or because it is socially acceptable to wear it.#500050">

Can you give us 3 styling rules that you abide by?#500050">

I don’t think there are any rules in fashion and that’s what I love about it. You should wear whatever you feel like wearing and forget about the rules.#500050">

What are your current go-to items when getting ready in the morning?#500050">

My current go-to items in the morning are my white Mango boots, my Gucci belt, and my Tory Burch sweater (Its freezing in NY).#500050">

What's the biggest misconception about having your own blog?#500050">

I think the biggest misconception about having a blog is that you need to wear certain items, or that you need to follow certain rules. Be yourself, be confident, and don’t give a shit about what others think.#500050">

What's your morning routine? (makeup beauty styling breakfast)#500050">

I love skin care, and it’s something I want to talk a lot more about with my audience. Although it might sound vain, but your face is so important because everything you do with it people will see. There is no covering up, although makeup helps it isn’t magic. That’s why having a good beauty routine is important, I am still learning about my face therefor not claiming to know anything about it but the most important thing about my morning routine is my skincare routine, I wash my face with Avène : Cleanance Gel, then I tone with Caudalie: Beauty Elixir, then I essence with SK-II: Facial Treatment Essence, then I use a serum from the Glossier 3 pack and then moisturize with Avène: Cleanance Expert, and finish with Milk Makeup’s: Cooling Water for under eye puffiness and  Sunshine Skin Tint which contains both SPF and a little bit of preservative free foundation. I am not a breakfast person but I always have a Starbucks Grande Nonfat Capuccino to go!

What projects are you working on now?#500050">

There are many exciting projects on the works. A lot of brand collaborations coming at the end of the month and then there are other personal projects I am little too superstitious to tell just yet.

With temperatures falling to a new low this week, figuring out a way to stay elegant and chic in the cold is one of the top priorities on the list. Chunky knit jumpers, and heavy fabrics like corduroy are a fantastic method to keep the chilly breeze away although they can be difficult to style effortlessly. Most women when we wake up in the morning with only a limited time allocated to our everyday styling, it's essential to go for simplicity.

A modern chic way with which we can defy the cold without sacrificing our need to look stylish. Enter, the sweater dress. This type of elongated sweater is an amazing item as it's extremely versatile yet warm and cosy. Add a belt to give definition to your waist and sport it with wool thigh high socks, with opaque tights or knew high flat boots. Embellish your look with a faux fur teddy bear coat, a hat, scarf and gloves. The weather is not joking. Finally finish your look with a luxe black leather backpack that you can wear from the office to a late night cap.

The great advantage of opting for a sweater dress is that it offers an abundance of styling options and it's also one of the key items for layering. Wear it with an open hoodie for a sporty look, a check blazer for a smart casual look, a leather jacket for a party look or a long fuzzy coat for pretty much any occasion!

Oh Kendall, Kendall, Kendall… Why are you doing this to us? The supermodel just wore $10,000 boots to a basketball game and taught us that sparkly boots are not only for evening wear… Kendall paired the boots with skinny jeans and a basic turtleneck sweater. Even though she was wearing literally an investment on her feet, she looked casual and modern. So glam up and wear your statement boots as daywear! #KendallJenner #supermodel #glitter #boots #trend #glitterboots #sparkleboots

Dads are setting the trends now! I bet we all owe an apology for making fun of our dad’s style. Dad sneakers and now dad sweaters… This button collared jumpers are loved by many designers and fashion girls. J.W. Anderson’s collection with Uniqlo revealed many colour options of dad sweaters, Marks & Spencers have plenty while Ralph Lauren is a staple of this jumper trend. I was about to sneak into my dad’s closet to “borrow” his buttoned sweaters when he immediately gifted me Uniqlo and J.W. Anderson’s sweater to prevent me of “borrowing” his sweaters. So jump on this trend because dad sweaters are going to be huge! #dadsweaters #sweaters #jumpers #trend #itgirl #fashion #uniqlo #ralphlauren #jwanderson #marksandspencers

A little color blocking don't hurt nobody and i think yellow, is the most suitable color to match with others. As we see in this outfit, the mustard yellow coat pairs perfectly with the navy, light blue and gray tones in the sweater. And in my opinion, yellow also pair well with pink, coral and red. what's your favorite color blocking combo? Photo Credit: fashionista.com #trend #outfit #fashion #streetstyle #fall
