We get it, ok? Swimwear shopping can be a daunting task at this time of year – so many styles, so many occasions to wear them. Whether you’re heading off on a sunny vacation, chilling at home, hitting the beach for volleyball and windsurfing or heading to a next-level pool party, you’re going to need at least a few options.

Luckily for you, we’ve selected the hottest swimwear trends of the summer and how and when to rock them…

Stripes

It’s all about big, bold stripes this summer, especially in rainbow tones – hello Pride Month. Invest in a high-leg one piece with lace-up detailing or a classic triangle bikini to rock this swimwear trend. Add cat-eye sunnies, gold-toned accessories and comfy mules. This look was made for fun vacations and parties so live it up.

Ruffles

Romantic Latin-inspired vibes reign this summer so a one-piece adorned with ruffles is a must-have. Opt for a monochrome style and add hoop earrings, layered necklaces, a wicker bag and a huge fedora hat for extra sun protection. This chic ensemble is perfect for poolside lounging and sashaying around that yacht deck.

Sporty vibes

Made ultra-covetable by the likes of Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, nothing beats a sporty two-piece. A sports bra-style top and simple bikini bottoms are perfect for hitting the beach for a morning run or afternoon surf. Team yours with a classic white tee and complete the look with chunky Ray Bans.

Boho babe

The trend that inevitably rolls back around every summer because it’s just too cute and classic to pack away, crochet bikinis and monokinis with tasselled cords are the order of 2018. Up your game by opting for something besides the classic off-white style and team with a cool kimono, pool slides and round vintage-style sunnies.

Time to find a new pair of sunnies? You’ve got a tricky decision on your hands. Do you invest in a luxe pair from a high-end brand and feel like a total rockstar or do you opt for a cheaper designer dupe and still feel like a rockstar – albeit a pretend one?

We put a range of designer and designer dupe sunglasses to the test to discover whether investing in luxury labels is really worth it when it comes to eyewear…

Our findings were pretty conclusive – if you want a pair of sunnies to protect your eyes and still look good after two weeks of wear, it’s designer or nothing. Most cheap dupes just don’t provide the UV protection you need despite looking good so when it comes to sunglasses, be prepared to splash the cash if you want the best.

Luckily, our friends at Rent the Runway came up with a clever solution if you happen to be on a budget. Got a big event coming up or a vacation in the sunshine? You can rent a pair of luxe high-end shades for a tiny fraction of the cost of a brand new pair.

Renting designer pieces is a huge trend these days as it’s both sustainable and financially savvy. So, if you can’t justify spending on those Gucci frames yet, just rent them for as long as you’ll need them. We promise not to tell…

Trends, they come and go but classic pieces, they last forever. In our opinion, every woman should have a line-up of classics in her wardrobe – see a little black dress, oversized sunnies and the perfect pair of jeans.

When it comes to enduring styles jewellery is a priority. After all, the right accessories can transform a low-key outfit into a high-end ensemble. We asked our Editors about their go-to pieces and how to create a fail-safe edit of classic jewellery…

Pendant necklaces

Having a few cute pendants on quality chains of varying lengths is a recipe for success. This is a trend that dominates every season and is easy to put your own twist on.

Precious studs

A pair of simple studs goes with everything – opt for simple gold, silver and pearls or your birth stone. Opt for subtle diamond details for a little extra sparkle.

Chunky chain necklace

The chunky chain is a classic for a reason – it goes with absolutely everything, no exceptions. Team yours with occasion dresses, Breton tees, cool beach kimonos and chunky knits all year round.

Hoop earrings

Whatever size you rock, gold hoops are forever. Opt for tiny sleeper styles by day and team your evening-ready looks with an oversized hoop to effortlessly up your glam factor. A silver iteration really pops against a tan. Wear yours with all your summer essentials year in, year out.

Simple bangles

A bangle in a precious metal is a great way to elevate an outfit. Keep things simple with minimal detailing and rock a stack of gold or silver-toned pieces together.

Watch

Every woman should have a luxe watch in her line-up. Team your simple daytime ensemble with a few chunky rings and a timepiece in a matching glossy metal for pared-down yet ultra-chic look.

Diamonds

Diamonds speak for themselves so no need to go all out. A simple diamond stud, chain bracelet, pendant necklace or understated diamond ring will lend your line-up a touch of classic appeal in an instant.

In summer, pared-down basics are everything and boy do we love a bodysuit. Sleek, simple and perfect for pretty much every occasion, the bodysuit sits somewhere between your best-fitting top and feel-good lingerie.

Got a night out with the girls planned? A wrap skirt and long-sleeved bodysuit is a fail-safe look for desk to dark – just change from flats to a pair of block-heeled sandals and add a stack of bangles.

For your holiday wardrobe, it’s all about simple sleeveless styles in bold colours and textures. Think ribbed one-pieces with halter-necks and deep V-necks to pair with cut-off denim shorts and boho-inspired wide-leg trousers.

For the weekend, a simple black or white number with jeans and a designer tote is guaranteed to become your go-to – simply add oversized sunnies for instant cool.

You've booked the hotel, bought the flights and finished the daunting task of packing. Now one question remains… what should you fly in?

You should never have to compromise style for comfort. After all, real fashion girls go for both. So, here’s what to wear at 25000 feet...

Sporty

If sportswear isn’t usually your jam, at least consider it for your next long-haul journey. Models and IT-girls swear by the sports-luxe look and it’s wonderfully easy to rock. Try teaming a cropped hoodie with fitted sweatpants and cool sneakers.

Basics

Don’t overthink it. Go for classic silhouettes – think boxy tees, leggings, oversized tank tops and simple cargo pants. Mix fitted and loose styles for a cool layered look that feels as good as it looks.

Luxe fabrics

Cashmere, silk, cotton and satin are where it’s at when you’re set to fly. Natural, breathable materials will be your lifeline on a long flight with all that air con.

Sunnies

There’s no better way to look chicer in arrivals than rocking a pair of oversized sunnies. Go for a chunky vintage-inspired pair for instant glam.

Bags

If you’re going to be hauling your luggage around you might as well make it look good. This is the perfect excuse to rock a chic designer weekend bag, a cool tote or belt bag and a luxe suitcase all at the same time. Let your accessories do the talking.

Some girls always look polished – dress freshly pressed, make-up perfect and not a hair out of place – these girls are often early birds. Then there are those in an ‘it’s complicated’ relationship with the snooze button.

Whether you’re a self-identifying lazy girl or not these four fail-safe looks are guaranteed to raise your on-duty game to new heights so you can enjoy an extra ten minutes under the covers…

Monochrome

Everyone looks chic in monochrome no matter what they put on. Opt for sleek lines and oversized basics to mix and match so you’ll always have a few options to throw on. We love pieces by COS paired with a smart tote, mules and oversized sunnies.

Layers

Cool linen and cotton layers are ideal during the summer months so don’t be afraid to rock the look at work. Team a cool mini skirt with a pared-down camisole and a loose-fitting unbuttoned shirt for effortless polish in an instant.

Statement

A simple silhouette in a bright color or bold print is always a winner. Opt for something easy to wear and just add a cross-body bag, heels and a pair of frames to match your dress – this will instantly make you look more put together.

Suited

When has power dressing ever failed us? Team tailored pants with a cool blouse and blazer and complete the look with statement loafers and vintage-inspired shades. Nothing says ‘big deal coming through’ like a woman who puts a killer twist on a pant suit.

Packing for a holiday is always a tough one – so many winning outfit ideas so little space. Your best bet when filling a suitcase for your summer holiday is to create a vacay-ready capsule wardrobe that can be relied on for any and every eventuality.

This fail-safe line-up should contain a pair of sunnies that goes with absolutely everything, a wide-brimmed straw hat, hot-weather haircare products and of course, a few all-white pieces that are chic, comfortable and easy to wear.

When it comes to shoes and accessories, opt for one or two accent pieces to lift your mix and match outfits and don’t be afraid to go bold with colour and embellishment.

Finally, don’t forget light lacy lingerie, a swimsuit and a pair of faithful blue-wash denim shorts. Add a few ruffled tops and simple tees and you’re ready to roll.

No girl should be without a decent line-up of cross-body bags in the summertime. The perfect size for all your essentials but small and chic enough to elevate your outfit, a classic cross body is simply a must when exploring a new city or some exotic location.

We’ve picked out the best cross-body bags for every budget and occasion so you can enjoy the hot weather hands free…

For the beach to the bar

Go for a bright, colorful piece for a touch of statement flair. Pair it with a simple outfit with distressed denim or a cute white dress to make that bag pop.

For a city break

Time to raise your game – those snaps for your Insta should feature your best side and your best bag, obviously. Invest in something sturdy with a strong clasp and unique detailing. We love silver-toned hardware and embroidered embellishments.

For weekend brunches

Keep things breezy with a boho twist and rock a basket bag or leather saddle bag. Don’t be afraid to amp it up with a printed day dress and oversized sunnies either.

For those luxe events

A chain-strap cross-body bag is the perfect addition to a party dress or sleek tailoring. Slip into a pair of heels and finish the look with a bold red lip.

Remember 10 years ago when white skinnies were the pinnacle of cool? Well, white jeans are back and this time round they’re way easier to wear. In fact, relaxed white denim is hotter than hot right now and we’re thanking the fashion gods for their graciousness…

Rocking white denim is easy – simply team your wide-leg jeans with a classic white tee, slip on a pair of luxe pool slides and grab that basket bag. Or if a denim jacket’s more your vibe, throw an off-white number over your sundress and complete the look with oversized gold-toned or tortoiseshell-style sunnies.

Relaxed silhouettes reign but so do ruffles and a rips so don’t be scared to invest in a skirt or pair of shorts with a little extra detailing for sunny afternoons at home and on your holidays – might we suggest a knotted white shirt and shorts for your next city break and a cute skirt with mules for that afternoon drinks date?

If you feel like taking the plunge and opting for double denim, you can’t really go wrong with all white. Team cool culottes with simple trainers and a cropped denim jacket and throw in a tan leather bag for a classic finish.

Whether you're hitting the beach in an exotic location or just stopping by your local pool, looking your best is a must. So throw out the dad shorts, do away with those ill-fitting speedos and try these cool, casual swimwear trends for summer…

Tropical times

You can never go wrong with a tropical print but opting for the right style is essential with this trend. Opt for boxy styles that sit higher on the leg – too much excess fabric when paired with a print is never a good look. Go for blue and green shades to emphasize your tan and finish your look with a pair of mirrored sunglasses.

Riviera rules

Opt for a classic look with a pair of block-color swim shorts with subtle logo detailing at the leg or a contrasting drawcord. Pair them with a white polo-shirt, fedora hat and simple Ray Bans for an effortlessly cool Gallic-inspired vacation look.

‘80s statement

Infuse your summer swimwear line-up with a cool old-school aesthetic is by sporting stripes. Invest in a colourful design with a vertical stripe and add pared-down round sunnies for a vintage-inspired finish.

Playful print

Now’s your time to shine – whether you opt for a pineapple print, on-trend lobsters or a simple graphic design, a stylish print has the power to elevate your look to new heights. Opt for repeat patterns in modern silhouettes and avoid anything too long or loose – the secret to pulling off a print is tailoring. Pair with a neutral tee and you’re good to go. Now, which way to the beach?
