Temperly London designs the most beautiful, vibrant pieces. I love this catwalk look for s/s18; how to do sequins in summer. At this time of year I love to adorn myself in sequins but as the days grow longer and I switch my mulled wine for Pimms I would rarely think about sequins. Temperly London proves that we can still sparkle in summer. The autumnal tones are traded for pastels and a heavy boot a sandal. The new way to shine in summer. Image: Instagram @temperlylondon

Who said that gloomy and dreary was part of the Autumn/ Winter outfit recipe was seriously mistaken. This season more than ever designers are poignantly rebelling against normcore-esque moody clothing and are conversely desiring glitter, sparkle, rainbow or an optimistic celebratory outlook on fashion, and dare we say - life.

This time this is demonstrated in the form of joyous multi-colored rainbow stripes. The trend was initiated around AW16 when Joseph and the biggest colourful stripped enthusiast out there, Paul Smith. Marc Jacobs and Givenchy took the trend a step further in SS17.

This season was informed by the AW17 shows that added sparkle, sequins and stripes to the rainbow motif. You can find great variations from pastel-colored stripes at Missoni or Mondrian-esque ones at Rahul Mishra. You can find anything and everything from vertical, to circular, thicker and thinner stripes across jackets, dresses, trousers, shorts and scarves.

One of the greatest aspects of the nearing festive season is the excuse for glitz and glamour. Every occasion requires a sequin or ten and this can be dressed up or down depending on the event. Every year @missguided (image from their Instagram) get it totally right, their site a sea of sparkle. #ootd #fashion #sparkle #dresses #sequins #festive #glamour #missguided #eveningwear

Why can't we get that Saturday feeling all week long? That was the inspiration behind this post. We tend to give a special annotation of significance to the weekend and Saturday specifically as the leisure of doing as we please and hanging out with friends elevates it to an even with importance. But what if we didn't go through life dragging ourselves through the week for that day and treated each day with the same attitude. And though we can't do much about altering work schedules and deadlines there's much to be done about our outfits aka the way we dress. This season designers declared a never ending party season over the gloomy sociopolitical events clouding our minds and psyche.

Conversely, they're adding a lush influx of shimmy, glitter and a truly optimistic mindset that trumps (pun unintended) over the dreary. We don't suggest you hit the office in a 1920's flapper dress in stiletto heels, heavy makeup and pearls but you can definitely amp up your weekday attire to Saturday happy status.

Choose a bold floral pattern which speaks volumes of pure Saturday optimism. Head to the floral aficionado Ted Baker for an ultra feminine and sparkly take on the winter bloom trend!

Go for a pair of futuristic metallic boots, and pair them with your business suit and a bold red lip. Sport a chunky luxe knit over a long slip dress, or skirt and add a sparkly necklace that will make you smile from 9 to 5.

Opt for a statement knit with intricate details, striped or sparkly over your denim jeans and pair it with ankle boots. If you're too hesitant to try glitter pieces at work stick to accessories that will infuse your personal Saturday happy all week long!

Browse through our gallery for more inspiration and shop all the Saturday happy essentials from our exclusive edit below!

From Karl Lagerfeld's array of synthetics like plastic and PVC, to sequins and translucents at Acne Studios, future-forward fashion still donned the runways at the recent SS18 fashion weeks. Think Maison Margiela and Balenciaga! But the optimism and high shine of the Space Age emerged a while back on the Fall/Winter 2017 catwalks. Alessandro Michele's unisex Fall/Winter 2017 Gucci show was an extra-terrestrial amalgamation of human and crystal.

Futuristic beauty trends also appeared, like glitter brows, chrome lips, and metallic hues, perfect for adding a dose of sparkle to your Instagram with the Kirakira+ app. Raf Simons' PVC-wrap fur coat for Calvin Klein is also a sensational example of fashion's growing obsession with Space Age Futurism reinterpreted from the '60s. With a shielding PVC overlay, the gold coat felt like an encapsulated treasure. Who wouldn’t want that? Sign us up, please! You know you're in a pure futuristic mode when tinfoil and Comme des Garçons get involved. We’re talking about a tinfoil hat, initially created in the ‘60s, an era ridden with conspiracy theories, to fend off government radio signals.

Concurrently, the space race of the 1960’s and the first moon landings in ‘69 a year after Barbarella appeared on screen, inspired a whole new era of sci-fi glamour that is still relevant today. Fashion has since then always held a soft spot for the future!

Eager to get in on the Space Age theme? SSENSE has a trendy selection of astro-chic, post-apocalyptic inspired outerwear, separates, and accessories. Shop the entire collection in our exclusive edit below!

With yet another fashion month behind us we bracefully look into the future and the next season trends. With minimalistic in New York, Milan went bold, while London and Paris kept a balance between glitter mania and minimal fresh makeup. More specifically we've seen everything from simplistic to shimmering, and rhinestone studded makeup.

GLITTER, GLITTER

The most predominant beauty trend that emerged from Fashion month was glitter. Make up artists truly found innovative ways to add a little sparkle to the models skin. Apart from shiny lip balm, glitter eyelids at Stella Jean and Topshop we were mesmerised by the stick-on stones at Givenchy, Jeremy Scott and Dries Van Noten. One thing is for sure: In SS18 we're going to shine!

GLOWING SKIN

As we all know the foundations of a great make up routine is the base, the treatments to offer a youthful clear glowing complexion. And no we're not talking about age here. At Vercace the original supermodels Naomi, Cindy and Claudia showed us how it's done. While Isabel Marant and Bottega Venetta focused on clear skin and Issey Miyake revealed the ultimate youth trick: pinkish primer around cheekbones and the eyes.

LIPS THAT POP

Cherry blossom is the perfect example for the tonal colour on our lips for SS18. Bright and beautiful that was the choice of hue at Max Mara Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.

BRIGHT EYES

Electro-pop eyes were all the rage at Missoni in orange, pink and aquamarine while at Marni the tendency was absolutely aquatic: blues, greens and deep turquoises. Think Kylie Minogue circa 2001.

CROPED BOB & FRINGES

The cropped bob is here to stay apparently and the accompanying fringes are also trending but not in the severe Anna Wintour fashion but mostly sweeping like Tom Ford. Fendi took it one step further by adding bright hairflips in blue, green and petrol.
