Korean products have been dominating the beauty scene in the UK in recent years but for all the winning formulas and anti-ageing serums on the market, what you really need to know is how and when to use these products. Enter our ten-step guide to nailing your own K-beauty routine…  


1. Start with an oil-based cleanser. This is your heavy-duty starting point – oil helps to penetrate dirt and make up on the surface of your skin and give you a fresh base.  

2. Next opt for a foam-based cleanser. This second cleanse will ensure that your face is really clean so you can get to work on the next steps.   

3. Using an exfoliator more than two or three times per week can be a little intense for your skin so be sure to give your skin a break from this step every other day or so.   

4. Next realign your skin’s pH balance and calm any inflammation with a gentle toner.  

5. Then apply essence – a K-beauty essential. Essence is a concentrated formula that promotes cell regeneration helping to prevent the signs of ageing.   

6. For your next step you’ll want to apply your serum. Gently pat over your face.  

7. Follow with a collagen-boosting sheet mask for 20 to 30 minutes.  

8. Next apply a light eye cream to combat those lines and dark circles.  

9. Your penultimate step is a healthy slick of hydrating Korean moisturiser.  

10. And finally, who could forget sunscreen? Apply your SPF and you’re good to go.

Vitamin C is loved by beauty buffs for its collage-boosting properties. Use your products before applying sunscreen and make up in the morning.

Vitamin A is lauded for its ability to strengthen skin cells, reducing wrinkles and helping with skin problems like psoriasis and acne. Encouraging collagen production and shedding old skin cells, save your Vitamin A for your before-bed routine.  

Our bodies make Vitamin D naturally when our skin is exposed to the sun but too much sun can lead to skin damage. Maintain the perfect balance and your overall skin health will be impeccable. An anti-inflammatory, Vitamin D stimulates cell turnover and boosts skin elasticity and radiance helping you to get your glow on.

Forever searching for the perfect lip product? With so many options available it can be hard to know what to invest in and what to avoid. Plenty of products promise lip-plumping properties but which one is right for you? 

We’ve rounded up our favourite beauty tools for the perfect pout and explained how to get the look, so you can get dreamy lips without opting for painful injections…   

Liner and gloss

Overlining your lips is an art so make sure you have the right shade of pencil with a strong pigment and a long-wear gloss to match. We love Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat pencil for this – plus it comes in a range of shades from neutral to pop-bright red, depending on your look.   

Lip mask and scrub

Treat your lips to a little TLC with a collagen-activating mask or scrub. Just be sure to treat the delicate skin on your lips gently and follow up with a hydrating natural balm. After you’ve treated your lips, simply add a slick of lipstick and go.   

Beauty boost

Specialist products that contain hyaluronic acid, collagen and peppermint can boost the circulation in your lips, encourage circulation and give lips a fuller appearance. Always read the label on these to make sure you’re not allergic to anything.

I swear lady kitty Spencer has the most stunning features, a cat eye really compliments her eye shape and I personally love how taupe and mauve eyeshadow shades look on girls with fair skin. Struggling to sleep in the summer heat? You’re not the only one. Seems like everyone’s circadian patterns are being disrupted by these warm summer nights but don’t fret, help is on the way…   


A decent night’s sleep is essential for our physical and mental health so eight hours of undisturbed shut-eye is a must. If the summer weather is keeping you up, try these tips to rest a little better and wake up feeling fresh.

Breathe

Deep breathing is the easiest way to relax so invest in essential oils, diffusers or pillow sprays and practice deep breathing for ten minutes while you settle down to sleep. You’ll find this helps you drift off quickly and that your heartbeat stays regular, helping you to sleep deeply and calmly.   

Lighten up

Opt for light layers made from natural fabrics like cotton, silk and linen. A pair of silk and lace pyjama shorts with a strappy camisole will feel cool and gentle against your skin, whereas an oversized cotton shirt will help your skin breathe in the heat.

Go natural

Choosing natural bed linen will also help to regulate your temperature while you sleep so consider investing in pure cotton and linen sheets and pillowcases.   

Cover up

No, we don’t mean cover your skin – just your eyes. Using a soft silk or cotton eye mask will encourage a deeper sleep. A gentle weight across the brow bones can help with relaxation and as sleep experts will tell you, the darker your surroundings are, the better you’ll sleep.

A vacation means no worries, zero commitments and a break from the daily grind. However, there are some things you probably shouldn’t let slide while you’re away from home, skincare and haircare being two of them. 


Excessive exposure to UV rays can really dry and damage hair so if you’re enjoying a week of relaxation in the sun, you’ll want to at least make a low-key effort to protect your hair. We’ve compiled a few ways to help keep your locks healthy all summer long... 

Quick spritz 

Just like your skin, when hair is exposed to the sun it becomes dry and damaged. The best way to protect it is by applying a UV protectant spray before you leave the house. Spritz through damp hair before you air or blow dry or apply liberally to dry hair – especially around your part and hairline. 

Bandana babe 

Keep your head, hair and skin protected from the sun with on-trend headgear. Simply wrap a cool bandana or silk scarf around your tresses, secure your ponytail with printed fabrics or go for a full head wrap in a knotted or turban style. 

Serum smooth

Your after-sun routine should feature a moisturizing serum that you can apply from the roots to the end of the hair. Keep it in your hair for at least ten minutes and rinse thoroughly. Consider switching between a serum and a hair mask for damaged hair every four days. 

Braid it

Another easy hack to keep your hair safe from the sun’s rays is braiding it when wet. Braids lock in moisture and are great for keeping your hair in place and ensuring you stay cool in the heat. Plus, you can channel those mermaid vibes when you take the braids out later.

Feeling tired, sluggish and not particularly summer ready? It could be your diet. We looked to our panel of health and beauty experts for a few simple hacks to help you feel healthier, happier and ready to get your glow on this summer…   


Hydrate daily

Staying hydrated during the warmer months is so essential but often, we forget that we should be drinking a little more. To make sure you’re getting your daily H2O, invest in a cool bottle or fill a jug with water and keep it on your desk.   

TIP: Add lemon slices for a refreshing alkaline, electrolyte boost and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper for better digestion and to stem your cravings for sugar.   

Boost yourself

Drink green tea to refresh your body – matcha is great but if that’s a little intense, try a caffeine-free detox tea to reset your body and help flush out nasties. 

Watch your portion sizes

Use small bowls and measure out your snacks too. Weighing bits and pieces out into little containers to eat on the go always makes life easier too, especially if you find yourself feeling hangry in the afternoons.

Cook with recipes

Follow health-giving recipes exactly, don’t add more or less of anything and invest in a few cookbooks with easy, filling and nourishing recipes you can come back to time and time again.   

Keep a journal

This isn’t an excuse to obsess over food so don’t be hard on yourself, just try being mindful and record what you’re eating, how you’re feeling and whether you’ve had much sleep, exercised that day and so on. This will help you to find a balance and set realistic goals for yourself. 

Use coconut oil 

Not only great for your skin, this is a healthy fat that’s great for cooking with. Swap your vegetable oil for a dollop of coconut when you cook.    

Get your greens 

If this is a challenge for you try adding a sprinkle of spirulina to your foods, make green smoothies and juices to enjoy in the mornings or at lunchtime. You can also take supplements to keep your body balanced and stave off cravings.
