A new season means a new footwear line-up, especially if you’re the type of guy who refuses to rock the same pair of grubby sneakers day in day out. But with so many options on the high street and luxe options from high-end retailers too, how do you go about choosing what’s right for you?

We looked to a mix of menswear styling exerts and designers for a few tips on how to invest in the perfect shoes for autumn and here’s what they had to say…

Favour a slim or skinny jean or trouser shape?

Desert boots are the shoe for you. Easy to wear with a slimmer leg and always on trend, the humble desert boot is a style set and celebrity mainstay for a reason.

Smart office dress code?

A pair of polished Chelsea boots is a step up from a smart brogue or wingtip and a taller length and slightly thicker sole means you’ll be protected from the elements on your commute whilst looking slick.

Love a chilled weekend look?

Neutral high-top trainers are your new best friends. Impossibly comfortable and ideal for anything from a walk round the park to drinks in the evening, opt for tonal blacks, greys, blues and olive green tones for an autumn-ready look.

Need an all-rounder?

Moccasin-style boots can be styled up or down depending on the occasion. Team yours with turned-up straight-leg jeans and a merino jumper or rock them with a checked suit for all your upcoming events.

The runways at London Fashion Week didn't fail to dazzle, though that was largely due to the sheer scale of the accessories showcased for SS19. Chandelier earrings, glittering necklaces and heavily embellished bags featured across the board.

With the coming season's trends firmly established, we've rounded up a list of the pieces you'll be seeing everywhere and what to invest in now...

Pearls and gemstones

That's right, forget your dainty gold chains and simple cuff bracelets because maximalism is on its way and it'll be sticking around for a little while. Oversized pearl earrings and shoes and bags adorned with crystals a lá Gucci and Chanel are where it's at.

Tinted glasses

Big '70s style lenses were huge this summer and they'll continue to reign well into next year. Statement sunnies will be every shade of the rainbow with tinted lenses being one of the biggest accessories trends for the seasons ahead.

Granny bags

We've always loved a granny bag and now that it's perfectly acceptable, if not cool to rock a beaded bag or mini crochet number, we're digging our favourites out and stocking up on new handbag styles. If it's kitsch or cute, send it our way.

One of the best things about fall is picking a new pair of boots. But which to choose? The decision can be tricky, so we’ve rounded up this year's hottest boot trends. These are the styles you’re about to see everywhere...

Most wanted

Thanks to the likes of Calvin Klein and Chloé, cowboy boots are having a serious moment. Influencers are wearing Western styles with everything from printed dresses to denim, and they’ve never looked cooler.

Go wild

You probably know by now that animal print is going to be huge, but the easiest way to wear it is on a pair of boots. Whether you choose faux snakeskin or a leopard-print pair, they’ll add an instant rock ‘n’ roll edge to any outfit. Show them off by rolling up the cuffs of your jeans.

Made for walking

The fall equivalent of this year’s sought-after ‘dad’ sneakers? Hiking boots. That’s right – practical walking shoes are officially cool, and our feet are so thankful for it. The trick to nailing this trend is balancing the chunky shape with a feminine dress.

On point

Balenciaga’s ‘Knife’ boots are a cult favorite on the street style scene, and now sharp point-toe styles are everywhere. Look for high-shine patent leather or sleek burgundy hues and use them to dress up relaxed denim.

Louisa Drake is a force to be reckoned with. A fitness expert, business founder and a serious source of lifestyle inspo, Louisa recently launched LDM, a fitness and lifestyle brand built on the principles of her own inclusive training method and her no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

We caught up with her to find out more about LDM, her motivations and of course, her style both in and out of the studio…

So how does your method work? How can LDM sessions influence your lifestyle?

At LDM we focus on body confidence and effective training techniques that educate clients on what their individual bodies need. My Method offers a host of fitness disciplines – cardio, conditioning, resistance and stretch – to keep the mind and body guessing and strengthen the muscles you use daily.

Our whole approach is to encourage confidence, so the Fitzrovia and Muswell Hill studios are a welcoming space where our instructors will calmly guide you through a class, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and well worked, but never worked up and stressed.

Who can take part in LDM classes?

LDM classes are accessible to anyone, regardless of their experience, fitness level, shape or size. We have two boutique studios in London, where you can access small group classes and private training daily. We also have LDM online video subscriptions and range of fitness equipment and apparel for taking part at home.

What inspired you to launch LDM – tell us about your journey...

After a professional dance career I started to transition into teaching dance and fitness. I was known for my unique style and had several disciplines under my belt but I realised there was something lacking from the workouts I was doing as a client at other gyms and studios.

I saw a gap for doing things my way and created LDM. After combining the best bits of popular disciples such as yoga, HIIT, Pilates to name just a few I created my signature total body workout that ticks all the boxes in one session – the Shape Changer, the perfect balance of cardio and conditioning material.

Next month we celebrate our first birthday at our Fitzrovia studio which offers a range of LDM classes that are constantly being fine tuned to suit our clients’ needs.

What does the word ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness really sums up being at your optimal best physically and mentally. For me it’s about finding the right balance – time to focus on my changing needs, to honour my own rhythms and have the energy to achieve everything I need.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

My clients. Most mornings I’m either up early teaching group classes or I’m with a private client. The occasion I have a morning free, I’ll top up on sleep or schedule some time for myself on the mat.

How important do you think physical health is to how happy and confident we feel?

Massively important. It should be the main reason you choose to work out and aesthetics are the bonus. The natural high we get from exercise is what keeps you committed.

What about fashion and style – can what we wear make us happy?

Absolutely, wearing something that helps you feel happy will be the reason your posture improves which will then be part of the reason your confidence improves and you carry yourself differently. You can express yourself through fashion and your own unique take on it.

What are your feel-good outfits for work, the weekend and going out?

I spend a lot of time in activewear and when I'm working out and training clients it’s all about supportive, feel-good fabrics. I select a sweat-wicking product that’s going to work hard for me when I’m back to back and versatile items that mean after a quick change I’m ready to go from studio to meeting.

When I’m off-duty it’s a mix of denim, fun prints, slogan tees and a vintage feel is always present in my style. For going out I add some standout accessories, switch a trainer for shoe and opt for a dress or cool jumpsuit.

What about your favourite brands?

Activewear brands such as Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Lucas Hugh, Nike and Adidas keep me supported and stylish. For tees and sweaters I like British brand Double Trouble Gang – we collaborated on some limited edition LDM sweaters & hoodies. I also love brands such as Etre Cecile and Sezane for an injection of fun prints and slogan pieces.

Free People, Reformation, ADAY, Faithfull the brand, Ganni and the Vampire’s Wife are labels I gravitate towards. I have some great jackets from Zoe Karssen, Whistles and Acne and my accessories are a mix of high street, vintage and investment pieces from Hill and Friends, Sezane, Laura Lee and Missoma.

I’m often in trainers by Adidas, Nike and APL and I’m currently loving the Stella McCartney x Adidas Parley shoes made from recycled ocean plastics – they work for all cardio based workouts. Veja make eco-friendly Parisian cool trainers that I like for off-duty and I also like Russell & Bromley, Birkenstock, Soludos, Hobbs and Miu Miu.

What’s next for you and for LDM?

Plans are underway to open a bigger standalone LDM studio in London where clients can still benefit from small boutique group fitness and private training with more space and amenities. We have some exciting opportunities in the pipeline and I’m working hard to build up our online LDM video offerings, so we are accessible not just in London but anywhere and at anytime. Watch this space…

The high street has come good once again with new-season drops drumming up excitement amongst the style set. With back to school fever in the air and chillier weather on the way, we’re looking to our favourite British brands for a style refresh.

One collection that’s caught our attention in particular is the autumn drop by Jigsaw. Comprised of sleek silhouettes and unexpected pops of colour, the brand’s seasonal offering puts a twist on classics like the trouser suit and checked skirt.

Shoes and accessories also give autumnal heroes a refresh in bright white and navy blue with panels of contrasting suede and grained leather. Think minimalist, contemporary essentials with a luxe edge.

We’ve picked out the coolest pieces to take your wardrobe from one season to the next with ease. Shop the edit below or save your favourites for later…

Sure sequins are a holiday party staple but does that mean they should only be worn during winter? We say no. Summer is the perfect time to sport a glittering ensemble so take note of these essential styling tips...

A summer tan really pops against metallics so opt for gold, silver and rose gold numbers. These light reflecting pieces will work wonders after dark.

Black, white or a light cream tone always works for an event so if you've got a summer party to attend, consider investing in a classic silhouette in a neutral tone and adding sequinned accessories. Or if you're feeling like only a statement will do, rock a sequinned dress in classic black or gold.

Planning to dance the night away? Sequinned shoes are the order of the evening. Just remember that if your shoes are glittering, keep everything else pared down to avoid overkill.

If you're heading to a more laid-back event like brunch with friends or maybe a festival, a sequin-embellished jacket or blazer is the perfect addition to distressed denim. Just add your favourite white tee and sunnies.

Every month we round up the pieces we’ve been loving, trends we’re crazy about and the designer pieces we’re lusting after. So, here’s what we’ve been wearing and wishing for in the SC office this month…

We saw rain and a little chilly weather disrupt the heatwave so the sweaters came out. Did that mean we opted for sensible shoes? Absolutely not. Fun sliders, sandals and sneakers are still the order of August. Along with polkadots and leopard print – arguably the biggest trends of the summer so far.

We’ve also been loving iconic accessories by Gucci as seen on Instagram – see IT-bags and sunnies – simple denim by M.i.H Jeans and of course, those easy breezy boho vibes.

Simple cotton and linen shirts have been top of our menswear list and when it comes to colour trends yellow tones have been top of our list with everyone rocking a pop of sunshine at least once a week.
