In light of the New Year I wanted to share a few of my favourite style crushes of 2017. They are in no particular order but the first - Megan Ellaby - is definitely up there as a long-standing fave. Manc gal Megan never fails to give me wardrobe envy. Megan makes clashing, bold patterns work. Colours and textures from velvet to heavy sequins are what Megan is all about. I would definitely recommend giving her blog and YouTube channel a go. Image credit: Instagram @meganellaby

As I've said this season Topshop he been the place to shop, or party. Their evening wear glistens in sequins and glitter. I love this Topshop evening look from Lorna Luxe (image from her Instagram @lornaluxe). This crinkled vinyl dress would look fab alone but the sheer embellished top gives it extra finesse. It completes the dress as an outfit, and maybe throwing on a faux fur would complete it all the more.

A quick glance at a recent streetstyle album will provide all the evidence you need that the beret has replaced the beanie as the fash pack’s go-to hat. Pushed forward to cover the hair line, back to frame a fringe or placed jauntily at an angle, you can wear it any way you want and it still manages to look oh-so French cool. Blame Dior for starting the trend with leather berets because brands and designers have taken the hat shape and really run with it- crafting them in all sorts of wonderful shades and textures. Wool, sequins, velvet- you name it, there’s probably a beret made in it. And it’s also become an unlikely site for empowering slogans that definitely won’t be obscured by a winter coat. Add in the fact that it’s cold and you want to keep your head warm, there’s no reason not to rock one.

Well, only if they fit your head properly. A too-tight beret is not a good look for anyone but you don’t want them to be too baggy either because the effect is less chic outfit accent and more sloppy. Having the kind of hair that will retain the beret hat shape for hours after wear or a forehead that indents easily are other potential deterrents. Keeping the beret on at all times in public (inside and outside) could overcome them or equal sweaty/greasy-looking hair; and how insulating or waterproof is a sequin or net-like style exactly? Not very. Some berets are simply worn for decoration.

Christmas is the time to get cosy and for me this extends to the home. I don't just enjoy dressing myself in sequins and velvet but my bedroom is covered in fairy lights, festive scented candles, anything really that sparkles. I love this home look by Anthropologie (image from their Instagram @antropologieeu). This is totally snug from the furry stockings to the festive garland and golden trees. I also love the touch of fairy lights in the fire place. This is a great way to get around have a closed fireplace. Fairy lights or candles decorate the the space warmly and aptly. A perfect Christmas setting.

Every Christmas different trends are imposed. We have the sequins, velvet and lace, which will ensure that we are very fashionable at this time. But there is a garment that does not depend on the season, and that is only valid during this month. The Christmas ugly sweaters, full of reindeer, snowflakes and firs full of lights. .Have a look at our gallery for more inspiration! Credits: Pinterest

It's very easy to get a bit blue just before Christmas. It gets darker quickly especially on the 21st of December. So it's understandable that you might need a bit of pick me up wardrobe to put a halt on those winter blues.

You can start by amping up that colour palette. For example trade in those black and deep browns for a pastel pink, a bright yellow, a sumptuous violet (great for 2018) or a luscious tomato red. If colour doesn't do it then turn to one of the most prominent trends of the year: sequins. Opt for a sparkly blazer, a skirt with studs or a flapper dress with tassels - it's party season after all so a bit of glitz and glam is in order.

Finally if all else fails, turn to gold and high stiletto heels - combine them for double the effect! And if you've been particularly good this year and expect a treat why not go all out? A designer splurge is the ultimate mood lifter after all - and what better way to celebrate than with a velvet Gucci belt bag one of our biggest lust-haves of the year!

With the latest Star Wars film The Last Jedi due for UK release this week, Daisy Ridley has stepped back into the spotlight in glorious style. The English actress, who reprised her role as Rey, wowed at the LA premiere this past weekend in a star-spangled Monse midi covered in glittering sequins. A stylish nod to the film, the setting and her star tattoo, Ridley twirled down the red carpet showing off the fringed skirt, which took her look further out of this world.

Ridley, 25, scored American Vogue and UK ELLE covers this year but it’s her red carpet looks that have cemented her status as a chic newcomer. With stylist Petra Flannery’s help, she’s really mixed it up- stepping out in and making memorable Dior, Mary Katrantzou and Chanel looks her own. There’s a little hint of Keira Knightley about the actress as well and she’s definitely catching up with the Pirates of the Caribbean star in the fashion stakes.

December is filled with parties galore. The mulled wine is flowing and of course, we have to be wearing sequins. This #MatchesFashion too is amazing. The colours are stunning and the polo neckline and subtle bell sleeves complete the winter trend. This item is over £1,000 but with so many high street dupes you'll be shining brightly this Christmas. Image: Vogue.com

The curtain's up this party season so take centre stage and give your best sartorial performance yet in Ted Baker. Whether it's a dreamy dress, statement separates or you go into full-blown magpie mode with metallics and sequins, we all have our favourite party fashion formulas and they’ve been given glamorous seasonal updates to ensure you steal the spotlight.

First things first: all leading ladies need a dramatic dress to ensure all eyes are on her and Ted Baker’s tick all the boxes. Flattering fits? Check. Dazzling details? Check. And switching up your accessories with every wear will give each one much more milage. To ramp up your star quality even further, mix and match tactile textiles- the plusher the better. Velvet is big news this season anyway in any colour and its understated lustre has great instagram appeal.

The new lines to learn are co-ords, as in coordinating tops and bottoms worn together, to help you stylishly stand out in a crowd of dresses. Trousers or skirts, plain or printed, they’ll slot seamlessly into your work and weekend wardrobes too should you wish. This ‘two of a kind’ trend also extends to accessories with gorgeous matching bags and shoes that look best together.

Last minute looks are sorted with the ultimate party dressing trick: the jumpsuit. The only things needed to set off these chic, one-and-done pieces are complementary accessories and a nonchalant attitude.
