The New Year comes round so quickly and with that I find myself thinking about spring... and oh how far away it is. The New Year seems to have thrown us further into the depths of winter. I find myself wanting to hibernate further into my coat. On the plus side perhaps that's reason enough to buy a new coat? I've been searching for a puffer jacket throughout winter and am yet to find my perfect match - a pastel pink perhaps? But there truly are so many out there from the reliable North Face to fast fashion ASOS.

As seen on the runway thick black eyeliner is in. Instead of the wispy, classic cat eye this year we will be grabbing the liquid liner and layering it up. This is a totally dramatic look which works well with pastel coloured outfits. There is no wrong way to work this trend. Just wing it. Image: Instagram

I'm loving the match between the hair and the eye makeup in this makeup look. The cut-crease and halo technique on the eyes is stunning but is the lilac hair that really caught your eye. Pastel hair is really 2017, but maybe we still are going to see it in 2018. Photo Credit: @abhcosmetics on twitter #makeup #beauty #trend #pastel

The quickest way to bring your ankle boots bang up to date is to add shine. That means a patent surface rather than a matte one in real or vegan leather that you can wipe-clean and maybe even see you face in. Bring on the rainy days and you’ll be able to go from desk to disco without having to swap shoes.

We don’t recall there ever being as many patent boots on offer as there are right now. And they’re not just glossy black either. The white shoe trend still has major legs and shades of red from traffic-light bright to deep burgundy are proving popular. And how about a nude or baby pink pair to shake up the pastel looks you’ll be rocking later this Spring in line with the SS18 trends? Rich tones like Cadbury purple and caramel brown only look more delicious with a sheen and molten metallics look out of this world with denim.

Loving this moodboard created by Elle Decoration's Editor. It brings together dirty pastel colours with the brilliance of copper. It's the perfect board for inspiration this 2018. Why not try creating your own! #moodboard #Elle #colour Credit: Elle Decoration Instagram

What a fantastic fur coat from blogger, Lily Melrose! The cute pastel colours just make the look to be honest. This coat would be perfect with a plain outfit underneath to add some interest to an otherwise simple look! #ootd #bloggerstyle #fashion #outfitinspo #lilymelrose Photo Credit: @llymlrs on Twitter

Purists are an eclectic bunch. They don't necessarily side with the opinion of minimalists where you may not even be able to buy them a Xmas gift (they won't accept it), but they share an affinity for simple, quality items that bring value to their life without cluttering it. If you're going for clothing opt for a muted colour palette of whites, cremes, pastel colours and uncomplicated silhouettes. Think of a wardrobe similar to Jennifer Lopez's all-white ensemble in the movie "Maid in Manhattan". A lush white coat, white trousers and a chic rollneck pair them with a beaded bag that is turning heads lately.

For a truly beautiful winter outfit, you can get them a beautiful shearling coat a fluffy scarf, an elegant hat and leather gloves. Mansur Gavriel AW17 and Chanel Resort 2018 are your go-to collections for purist inspiration in style and aesthetic. The purist looks for an uncomplicated life and that includes life at home. You can gift them a pair of sleek petite speakers or elegant pc accessories that are both stylish and practical. Believe us, the purist will be pleased.

It's very easy to get a bit blue just before Christmas. It gets darker quickly especially on the 21st of December. So it's understandable that you might need a bit of pick me up wardrobe to put a halt on those winter blues.

You can start by amping up that colour palette. For example trade in those black and deep browns for a pastel pink, a bright yellow, a sumptuous violet (great for 2018) or a luscious tomato red. If colour doesn't do it then turn to one of the most prominent trends of the year: sequins. Opt for a sparkly blazer, a skirt with studs or a flapper dress with tassels - it's party season after all so a bit of glitz and glam is in order.

Finally if all else fails, turn to gold and high stiletto heels - combine them for double the effect! And if you've been particularly good this year and expect a treat why not go all out? A designer splurge is the ultimate mood lifter after all - and what better way to celebrate than with a velvet Gucci belt bag one of our biggest lust-haves of the year!
