After a long summer of unbearably hot commutes, office air con and sunbathing on the beach (if you were lucky), now is the perfect time to step up your skincare routine.

Whether your skin is feeling super dry from the sun or the balmy nights have taken their toll on your already-oily complexion, we’ve picked out the essentials you need to start fall feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Energize

If heading back to work after a two-week getaway feels daunting, don’t worry – The Body Shop’s Energizing range is enriched with Brazilian guarana and Ethiopian green coffee to invigorate your skin and give you the wake up you need. Try the cleanser first thing in the morning.

Cleanse

If your skin has been feeling oily recently, look for a deep-cleansing face wash that removes excess oil and reduces the appearance of pores. The Kiehl’s Oil Eliminator helps to eliminate sweat and airborne pollutants, so your skin will be left looking smooth and shine-free.

Hydrate

If you haven’t been spending too much time in the sun, you’ve probably been stuck at work with the AC on full blast – now it’s time to rehydrate. Kiehl’s's Facial Fuel is enriched with vitamins and ideal for normal to dry skin types, and will leave your face feeling revitalized.

Harsh weather, fumes and the stress of city life can weaken our defences and dry up the skin so protecting it is key. Luckily, anti-pollution beauty has arrived. So, for all you city dwellers, we've prepared a list of hacks and products to save your complexion, fight free radicals and get that much-desired glow. Anti-pollution beauty consists of purifying the skin and then  reviving it with great skincare and nutrition...

Begin your routine with a great cleanser. Wash your face and then exfoliate to slough away dry, dead skin; you can use an AHA for this or a gentle scrub two or three times a week.

Follow this with a charcoal mask charcoal is great at purifying the skin and ridding your face of city grime and dirt. Next, apply defence-boosting oils and glow-activating serums for that extra luminous effect.

Finally, make sure you invest in a quality SPF and a daily moisturiser that will protect your skin against damaging UVA and UVB rays. Make-up containing an SPF is great for an extra barrier against sun damage too.

Boost your inner beauty by indulging in a diet full of antioxidants like citrus fruit and berries, nuts and delicious avocados for Vitamin E. Vitamin E is great for fighting free radicals and promoting healthy cell reproduction.

Be sure to incorporate lots of Omega 3 and fatty acids into your diet to help with this too. These are typically found in salmon, tuna and other oily fish. These vitamins and minerals are great for boosting your collagen production, giving you that healthy glow.

We all enjoy the beauty and it's one of the easiest ways to give away a great gift set that is affordable without looking cheap! When going down the affordable beauty route there are a few points to consider. Try to curate the experience by really taking into account the individual needs of your loved one. Choose from oily, dry or normal skin, do they have coloured hair or natural, and finally what colour palette would look better on them in terms of make - up? Do they have a specific make-up brand that they choose?

Stay away from choosing foundation or concealer as this would be a daunting task, and instead go for a cool set of eyeshadows, a violet lipstick (we will be mentioning violet a lot since it's the colour of the year by the way) or a set of sparkly and glitter nail polish. Go for a night cream or a great SPF for your friends or a set of essential bath oils and shampoo which is a fantastic affordable option that is always practical!

Summer is the time of bare skin exposed to the warm rays of sunshine that can be amazing for our mood (as we produce more serotonin - a mood-boosting hormone) but also very harsh for our skin and hair. Summer skincare is an entirely different chapter in beauty than our normal everyday beauty routine during winter. Excessive sun exposure can cause anything from pigmentation to skin dehydration, sunburn and premature ageing, but not with a proper summer skincare routine.

Here's what you'll need:

TONER
You wouldn't necessarily associate dry skin with summer but that's a myth. Sweating, in particular, can cause our skin pores to open up and that's when the toner is really helpful. Use your favourite toner after you've cleaned your skin thoroughly to help close the pores. Don't forget to moisturise and follow these simple basic steps every day to avoid premature ageing and wrinkles.

NO SCRUB(S)
Although it's important to cleanse the skin during the summer months it's not advisable to scrub it, especially after long-term sun exposure. Scraping off the dead layer of skin may leave you with a brighter complexion but it can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun. If you still want to exfoliate, try limiting it to two times a week and make sure you moisturise after. Because of extra sweat-clogged pores can end up in pimples so keep up with your exfoliating and splash your face with water 3-4 times per day.

DAY CREAM with SPF
An oil-free and fragrance-free cream day cream with SPF 30 would be ideal for summer. Thick creams are only good for dry areas of the body like the feet, knees and elbows. For summer you need a lighter lotion and serum. You should apply a minimum SPF of 30 at least 20-30 minutes before sun exposure. If you have oily prone skin (you still have to wear an SPF!) try a gel-based sunscreen. If you have a mixed or dry skin try a sunscreen with a matte finish.

CC CREAM
If you want just a bit of coverage you can sport a CC Cream in addition to your SPF. Most of the CC's include a SPF and are also colour-correcting, act as a lightweight makeup, and hydrate the skin. But their SPF is sometimes as little as 15 so ALWAYS wear it on top of your normal face sunscreen.

ULTRA HYDRATING MASK
Chlorine from the swimming pool and sea water in combination with sun exposure can severely dehydrate and damage the skin. This season think about investing in a hydrating mask and we swear it will feel just like splashing your face into the water after taking that first summer dip.

LIGHTWEIGHT NIGHT CREAM
Night cream is a tad excessive during the summer months, just like that sweater you packed and never worn on your holidays- you just don't need it. You don't necessarily need it in humid conditions. But due to sun exposure and dry environments (especially with air-conditioning) you should aim for a lightweight night cream or serum depending on your skin type.

EYES & LIPS
The sun rays are most harmful between 12 and 4 pm. It's important to wear a pair of UV-protected sunnies and an eye cream for extra sun protection. Chapped lips are common during the summer months as well so make sure you carry an extra lip balm with sun protection and coconut oil for extra moisturising in your bag. If the sun really hurts your eyes sit down in the shade and apply potato juice or peeled potatoes underneath your eyes for a super soothing effect.

Makeup is a huge rage on social media now, and seeing hundreds of beauty YouTubers and Instagrammers recommending scores of products can definitely be overwhelming if you're a beginner to the beauty world. So we decided to put together a makeup guide specially for beginners! Here are all the essentials you need. (We have them all in our edit below for you to buy!)

Base
A flawless base is the beginning of a great makeup look, so make sure to pay attention to it. The first step towards this is to clean and moisturise your face, and then put on a primer. Your skin type is an important factor in choosing what kind of base to use.

If your skin is oily, opt for a powder foundation or a liquid foundation with a matte finish. For dry to combo skin, choose a liquid foundation with a dewy finish.

Normal skin looks great with mousse foundation.

For daily use, BB cream is a good lighter alternative to foundation.

To apply liquid foundation, use a dense flat-top brush for full coverage or a damp sponge for natural coverage. If you are using a liquid foundation, it is important to set it with powder. But in order to avoid it looking cakey, don't set it with a powder foundation—use a translucent powder. Powder should be applied with a large fluffy powder brush.

Blush and Bronzer
Adding blush to your cheeks and bronzer on the hollows of your cheeks and the perimeters of your face help to give dimension so that your foundation doesn't make your face look totally flat. Plus, it gives you a nice, sun-kissed look! So make sure not to skimp out on these. Blush and bronzer go on best with a brush that is large, fluffy, and angled.

Eyeliner
Liquid eyeliner can be quite intimidating even to someone experienced with makeup, so don't insist on using it if you're not confident with it. Instead, use a soft kajal liner in a colour of your choice to line your lashline, and smudge it out slightly with a small eyeshadow brush. This will give a sultry and pretty look to your eyes.

Mascara
Mascara is a must! It helps open up your eyes and make your lashes look good. Choose any mascara you like.

Eyebrows
Eyebrows, though often overlooked by non-professionals, can add a lot to your face if filled in properly. As a beginner, your best bet is an eyebrow powder, as it is quite forgiving and gives a natural finish. Use it with a flat, angled brush, and blend out with an eyebrow brush.

Lipstick
Nudes and light pinks are good for day-to-day wear, and reds, plums, and bright pinks are good for more fancy occasions. To ensure a perfect application of lipstick, make sure to apply lip balm first.

Hey gals! It's important to take care of your skin, and especially so in the arid winter months, when your skin can dry out easily. Ideally, we would all be able to go in for a weekly steam and facial, but unfortunately, we live in the real world, where we're often running out the door, late to work. Have no fear for your skin this year, because we've put together a comprehensive skincare guide - for ladies in a rush! No matter your skin type, find a simple routine that works for you below...

For Dry Skin: Start your daily routine with an exfoliating cleanser, to help scrub off any flakes of dry skin. As soon as you hop out of the shower, pat your face dry, then grab your face moisturizer. Thick creams and gels are ideal for your skin type, so shop products like the Illuminate Moisturizer from Natural Spa Factory, or Dr. Pericone's Face Finishing Moisturizer Tint if you prefer a little pigment.

For Oily Skin: An exfoliating and balancing facewash is ideal for your skin type. Make sure to wash thoroughly, so no traces of oil remain around your hairline or jaw. Foaming cleansers work particularly well for you, since they form a thick layer to battle that stubborn oil. Applying moisturizer needs to be done immediately, before your skin has time to start producing oil. Once the moisturizer is on, it should stop your skin from feeling dry, leading to overproducing oils.

For Sensitive Skin: Start out with a gentle cleanser, to avoid irritating your sensitive skin. Look on the label to make sure it's hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic, which is ideal for sensitive skin. After patting your skin dry, you'll want to use a toner to balance out your color, then immediately apply a daily moisturizer. When shopping for one, you'll want to look for scent-free options.

Regardless of your skin type, skincare collection boxes, like our faves from Clinique, Avene, and Lookfantastic below, are the best way to shop new products. Just choose the option targeted towards your skin (dry, oily, combination, or sensitive), and forget your worries about products interacting weirdly!

Other Great Ideas for Everyone: -Micellar water is a little-known gem for skincare routines. It is one simple product, but has the versatility of being a makeup remover, skin cleanser, and moisturizer, all in one! It works equally well for dry skin and sensitive skin, so give it a try to see if you can expedite your morning process. -Facial cleansing wipes are an obvious choice for a reason. Throughout the day, our faces build up dirt and sweat, and can get shiny, oily, and irritated. The easiest way for a lady on the go to avoid it is to keep these pocket wipes in her purse. Then, when you visit the restroom, you can check for shine and fix as needed! -Peel-off face masks are also an excellent choice for busy ladies - just slather it on, set a timer, then go around your typical business!

While the mask dries, you can watch Netflix, catch up on some work emails, or cook dinner! Then, when the timer dings, just peel it off, and you're good to go. -If you're worried about the signs of ageing, just replace your cleanser with an age-defying formula, like this one from Elemis, and invest in a wrinkle-smoothing moisturiser.

P: I have ligament tear in both my ankles so I love the 'sneakers with everything' trend.

SHQ: One trend/product you would never wear, if any
