A good rule to follow? Even if you leave the house without thinking twice about how you look, try an intense colour on your lips to transform your look in seconds. Credits: Pinterest

Fashion Week is so much more than style. During fashion week we get an inside look at the hair and makeup trends that we'll be sporting all next season. On a few lucky occasions like this years’ New York Fashion Week, it also reflects a shift in society on the very definition of beauty. This NYFW was bursting with a sense of change that was embracing activism, and celebrities that were more disrupting than your average celeb bunch.

From the breast cancer survivor Erica Hart, who walked at the Chromat show in a slip dress that was gracefully showing off her scars to the ten-year-old drag kid Desmond Napoles, who walked proudly at Gypsy Sport. To accommodate to this celebration of inclusivity and uniqueness, makeup and hairstyles were extravagant, rebellious and bold.

EYE FOCUS

The focus currently has shifted towards eye makeup featuring over the top looks such as black lashes and plastic bug eyes á la Gareth Pugh. There was gold glitter at Ulla Johnson and smoky eyes at Tom Ford or Alice + Olivia who traded the liquid eyeliner for a smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples. While Kate Spade opted for diamonds carefully glued on the models’ eyelids.

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS

When it comes to hair, the trend was all about spray products using all the essentials to create a  wet look. The accessories were over the top featuring 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent updos put together with an army of hair gel.

BOLD LIPS

Whether it's two-tone pink and red lipstick, a healthy glow so extreme you're basically applying moon dust to your skin, red was a constant. The classic crimson lip became a powerful pout painted in a carefree fashion of individuality, whether it was in liquid form at Chromat or matte at Bottega Veneta.

HAIR DYE

Objecting to the single hair colour trend of seasons past, bold as they may have been, this time it was all about strategically placed streaks. The models at Sies Marjan wore pinks and blues while green and blonde short dos was also a trend at Marc Jacobs. Which of the makeup trends will you be trying this season? For quite some time, we’ve been obsessed with matte lipstick. Well, it’s time we call quits. This Spring bold and glossy lips are a major trend. Especially seen in the red, lipsticks are shinier than our future. Reviving back from the 80s and 90s, glossy lips are back. Our makeup trends this season are matching the trends of our clothes. Glamorous eighties and naughty nineties are everywhere this season! #nineties #glamour #eighties #makeup #lipstick #red #shiny glossy

Red lips on Valentine’s day seems like the perfect beauty tradition. Not only can you leave cute kiss marks everywhere from your lover’s face to a note and on the mirror; they’re also bold and self-empowering. Slick on your most flattering shade (you might need professional help to find it), and your eyes are brighter, your smile wider and your pout is all the more enticing. It’s no coincidence that some of the biggest bombshells like Marilyn Monroe and cartoon Jessica Rabbit have made red lipstick their signature. And even though red is the tried-and tested colour of seduction, often used to uplift a LBD for unprecedented glamour after dark, it has plenty of daytime mileage with denim and neutrals as well.

But you can’t deny how high maintenance red lips are. And not really suitable for actual kissing either because one unintentional facial smudge or teeth smear kills the magic. There’s a lot of prep involved too: lips need to be exfoliated, then outlined and contoured before filling in (Kylie Jenner popularised over-lining: where you draw beyond your lip line to create the illusion of fuller lips). Matte, gloss or stain is the key question and determines the impact. Matte is dramatic but gloss will catch the light more and a stain is the most natural of the bunch with just a hint of colour. Keep last season’s just-kissed lipstick trend in mind as well because the slightly smudged application is gorgeous and adds an air of nonchalance.

Jeanne Damas from @rouje it's the definition of a french babe. In this photo, Jeanne wears a colourful blouse that you can probably find in your mom closet from the 70's and she pairs it with the iconic frenchie beret and I'm just obssesed with her classic and effortless style. Damas is also a fan of red lipstick which is also another reason why I followed her. What's the thing about French people that they make everything cool seems so effortless? Just yesterday we commented on the vast resurgence of the trainer being elevated to haute couture status. Actually, the simplest trainer paired with couture looks absolutely mesmerizing. Just ask any of its devotees like Street Style Influencer of the Year Veronika Heilbrunner or Fashion Director Lisa Aiken. But there's one fashion influencer that is absolutely dedicated to her trainers so much so that she didn't wear much else during Paris Couture Fashion Week. We're talking about model Kaia Gerber and her affinity to a pair of black high top Converse. Almost all of her off-duty looks comprised of styling variations of the trainers.

For a naughties throwback look, she paired a tomato red zipper sweater with ripped jeans and finished the look with a bright violet lipstick.

On the second say she appeared in a beautiful checked coat that she styled with a black hoodie, black vinyl leggings a small cross body bag, and a  pair of rose coloured tiny frame sunnies.

For her third off-duty look she opted for a pair blue checked trousers a zipped black hoodie, white tee and her fave black high top Converse Chuck Taylor's.

Head to our gallery for more inspiration and see how you can style your Converse trainers in our expert edit below

The Stellar Light Holographic Lip by Milani is such a cool product. This year, lipgloss is having a huge comeback, and I think this product would look so amazing over lipstick as a lip topper or alone with bare lips and minimal eye makeup. Second post about Alison Brie, but I just loved so much her overall look. Especially the makeup. Brows are polished and her skin looks so smooth and alive, with those flushed cheeks. The eye makeup was so minimal and classic, I'm loving the soft peach shade on her crease and eye-catching champagne shade on her lid. I'm pretty sure a little black liner was used to enhance the thickness of her eyelash extension. But the star of the show is the corally pink lipstick, that gives a splash of freshness to the classic and elegant look.
