As beauty trends go the runway has been showcasing relatively safe and sensible looks, until now. Glowing skin and minimal make up has been the go-to look for designers and influencers alike but with maximalism making a comeback things are about to change.

Cue the biggest beauty trend of the season: ‘60s-inspired lashes. Seen in show after show during Fashion Week, winged, graphic liner and supersized eyelashes are back in a big way for AW18.

The perfect look for party season, we’re eschewing the ‘less is more’ rule and loading up on khol and falsies to offset perfectly-groomed brows and chunky knits for the chillier months.

Now this look takes a little time to master, but with a quality eyeliner, the right primer, high-pigment shadows and of course, a powerful mascara, you’ll be channelling Twiggy in no time.

So, you’ve got the ready-to-wear trends down for the new season – now it’s time to brush up on the best beauty looks from the FW18 runways. Here’s what was hot and how to rock it this season...

Electric eyes

Neon hues are huge this fall, but it wasn’t just the clothes that were bright on the FW runways. The models at Prada and Marni wore electric eyeshadow, while at Dries Van Noten neon lashes reigned. Try accenting your usual black liner with a bold color in the inner corner of your eyes, or give your lashes a swipe of blue mascara.

Brushed brows

Another season, another brow trend. This time, make up artists kept them natural and feathery. All you need to nail the trend is a tinted brow gel –  or keep it clear if you’re blessed with full brows – and softly brush the hair upwards.

Retro lashes

Valentino and Givenchy embraced ‘60s-inspired beauty, coating models’ eyelashes in plenty of mascara for a retro feel. The trick to keeping this trend modern is to leave the rest of your face as natural as possible – think dewy skin and a just a dab of lip balm.

Punk liner

The runways were awash with rebellious clothes, and there was plenty of make up to match. Max Mara opted for a glam-punk look, with Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber sporting dramatic smoky eyes in the show. Don’t worry about getting it perfect – the smudgier, the better.

If you think metallic make up’s the reserve of festivals and Christmas parties, think again. The trend for shimmering skin and iridescent eyelids has blown up in the last two years with bloggers, celebs and influencers all opting for a beauty look inspired by precious metals…

As summer draws to a close and we start to think about autumnal looks – see berry lips and bushy brows – why not start working a little sparkle into your make up routine too?

A sweep of gold-toned eye shadow or a pearlescent sheen of highlighter is the perfect way to elevate your look during the day. Invest in highly-pigmented products in deep gold, rust and bronze tones and opt for highlighters with either a pink or yellow under-hue.

For after dark it’s all about drama so opt for dark black lashes with a pop of silver liner or a little glitter dusted across your brow bone. Go for fine glitter rather than chunky flecks as this will give your skin a bright, luminescent quality under the lights.

Forever searching for the perfect lip product? With so many options available it can be hard to know what to invest in and what to avoid. Plenty of products promise lip-plumping properties but which one is right for you?

We’ve rounded up our favourite beauty tools for the perfect pout and explained how to get the look, so you can get dreamy lips without opting for painful injections…

Liner and gloss

Overlining your lips is an art so make sure you have the right shade of pencil with a strong pigment and a long-wear gloss to match. We love Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat pencil for this – plus it comes in a range of shades from neutral to pop-bright red, depending on your look.

Lip mask and scrub

Treat your lips to a little TLC with a collagen-activating mask or scrub. Just be sure to treat the delicate skin on your lips gently and follow up with a hydrating natural balm. After you’ve treated your lips, simply add a slick of lipstick and go.

Beauty boost

Specialist products that contain hyaluronic acid, collagen and peppermint can boost the circulation in your lips, encourage circulation and give lips a fuller appearance. Always read the label on these to make sure you’re not allergic to anything.

Have u ever seen a makeup trend that doesn't look good on Rihanna? I know I don´t. And right now, it's time for the white liner, which I don't know if it is for her olive skin tone but it totally looks awesome! This could be a great alternative for the classic cat eye lovers that are a little bit bored and want to try something new. photo credit: @byrdie on twitter #beauty #makeup #rihanna #look #trend

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few years, you’ll no doubt have heard of Charlotte Tilbury. The make-up artist and IT-girl is renowned for her glamorous, romantic aesthetic and is the go-to for models and celebrities everywhere.

A few of Charlotte Tilbury’s creations have even gained cult status in the world of beauty blogging – see the Pillow Talk lip collection – and there are definitely a few bits and pieces our Editors can’t live without. Whether you’re an avid fan or trying the brand for the first time, we’ve rounded up the essential make-up and skincare picks to invest in below…

A lightweight SPF15 foundation, this formula contains a plant-based retinol to boost collagen production, creating a perfect make-up base. Pseudo-ceramides also help to keep your skin hydrated for up to 18 hours which makes for a pretty great foundation.

With vitamins and elastomer pearls, this hydrating complex keeps your skin plumped moisturised for a glowing finish. A Lipo-Siliconic compound helps to cover any imperfections without caking on the skin, filling in lines instead of highlighting them.

Four shades that suit every skin tone make this an obvious favourite. Use them individually or blend the long-lasting colour for work, the weekend, off-duty, after dark and beyond.

With winter Daphne stem cell extract and red algae marigel, this nourishing eye cream is a hit. Time-released retinol molecules refine the skin around the eye to help you look fresh hour-by-hour – great for those long days when tired eyes can make you look wiped out.

The number one product loved by make-up artists, beauty editors and bloggers everywhere, this paraben-free liner lasts up to six hours with no smudging and the waterproof colour stays put making it great for dinner, drinks or just a perfect all-day pout.

This handy wand contains firming eye cream including cyclodextrins, hyaluronic acid, rice proteins & bio extract of Salicornia. Great for brightening shadows, neutralising tones and minimising dark circles with mother-of-pearl and polypeptides, the concealer contains silky elastomers to smooth out lines. Carry this for an eye-brightening touch up on the go.

Finally, a liquid lipstick that doesn’t feather. This long-wear lippie contains beeswax to hydrate lips and anti-ageing sea lavender with hyaluronic acid and firming actives for smooth, plump lips. Just use the clever curved applicator add a slick of this to brighten your look day or night.

A paraben-free lipstick in the perfect vampy shade, the Matte Revolution lipstick contains orchid extracts to soothe, protect and moisturise lips. Triglycerides mixed with a perfect blend of oils and waxes means your lips look great and feel good with minimal effort.

We usually heard that colorful liners look best against brown eyes, but I'm loving the contrast between the icy blue eyes of the girl and the cobalt blue liner it looks so unique and beautiful. I also like how she pairs the liner with dusty and pastel pink eyeshadows, it makes the liner the main focus of the look and at the same time creates a romantic vibe to it.  Photo Credit: @kelseeyclarke on twitter #beauty #makeup #look #trend
