Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to the summer. This makes it the perfect time to tap into a few of summer’s hottest trends. Hopefully you'll be spending the weekend in the sun, enjoying the parades and festivities. We've compiled four fool-proof looks that will match all your Memorial Day Weekend plans, whether you're attending your first pool party of the season, or jetting off on a reviving city break...

Here's what to wear on Memorial Day Weekend...

For a city break

Whether it's Hamptons or Montauk you'll need an array of resort-ready separates to wear from the beach to the bar until the early hours of the morning. Snag a patterned jumpsuit and pair it with espadrilles, a pair of sunnies and an on-trend wicker bag to carry your essentials.

For a pool party

For glamping, cookouts  or simple poolside tanning you need a cool get-up. Show off in a  bikini in bold hues, pair with equally eye-grabbing sneakers, denim shorts and toss on a denim jacket for extra flair.

For a daytrip

If you're headed south for wine o'clock in Napa Valley you've got to do it in style. Sport a linen dress, red sandals, an oversized leather bag and a fedora straw hat that will keep you looking and feeling cool in warm weather.

Which of these Memorial Day looks will you be wearing? Browse our edit below to recreate them at home...

This season’s palette is filled with earthy desert tones and we’re loving it. Muted yellows, warm blues, and soft tan are trending in a big way. Luckily these hues complement most skin tones and hair colors; from blondes to raven haired gals, redheads to brunettes, everyone looks good in desert tones.

How to style desert-inspired tones?

For a more low-key approach go for spring-ready hues like dusty rose and and olive.

Swap out your conventional grey and cream staples and inject your wardrobe with a subtle hit of color.

Pair hues from the desert palette with rich golds, a pair of summer sandals and a glossy pedicure.

Embrace your inner goth by opting for a darker nail colour choice, and going for a little iconography-inspired jewellery  – think Met Gala vibes.

Go for long flowing silhouettes like a  thigh-spit dress in chocolate or camel and define your waist with a thick leather belt. Finish your look with with a few boho accessories.

Strathberry has stolen the hearts of many, including that of future duchess Meghan Markle. It specialises in statement leather handbags at a nicely affordable price point. The brand was founded by husband and wife duo Guy and Leanne Hundleby in Edinburgh in 2013. Strathberry aims to create quality Scottish accessories with an international look.

Though the affordable price tag means similar accessories brands might have trouble standing out from the crowd. but Strathberry has been able to distinguish itself by maintaining a high standard of design. Its silhouettes have already become super recognisable and they've gained the much coveted IT-bag status with influencers and editors alike.

Strathberry was doing pretty well, but its popularity soared back in December 2017, when Meghan Markle carried a Strathberry bag during her official engagement. The Strathberry Mini Tote sold out in 11 minutes after she was snapped with the bag.

Are you coveting a Strathberry bag too? Browse to our exclusive edit below and shop your fave style now...

The leather miniskirts are those delicate garments that can be seen very cheap and in bad taste, very easy. However, this season they are the choice of street style stars to show their legs in a chic and modern way Credits: Pinterest

The past season designers have been showing an act for the artisanal. Over the last year, runways were filled with crafty handiwork that came from peculiar embellishments: from quilting to crochet.

Jonathan Anderson knits dominated his Fall 2017 menswear show, while Jeremy Scott created bodycon dresses for his Resort collection. Other designers opted for crochet miniskirts and polo shirts during a Spring 2018 outing. We absolutely love the offbeat and experimental attitude of the material that allows for an array of mixing and matching options.

How to style crochet?

Pair a jumper with a leather biker jacket to emphasize the juxtaposition between the '60s silhouette dress and the edgy jacket. Add a fetish choker for effect or a knit-top handle bag and a pair of front-button track pants and sneakers.

Kick back in a crochet overlay with your monokini and a summer basket bag with slides for a comfy-chic beach look. Add some bamboo-inspired accessories with beads to fully immerse in this look.

Yes, we're already reaching the mid of May meaning more sunlight, more time for exposed legs and a time for a slight change in wardrobe. These changes include footwear, and though we should be in sandals season, this time it's all about ankle boots and their many variations: Flat, heeled, leather and suede, print or plain.

FLAT

The flat ankle boot is probably the easiest way to be comfy chic. If you don't believe me just ask a few flat ankle aficionados like Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller. Follow in their footsteps and team them with midi skirts, long floral trousers or leggings.

HEELED

Part of your essentials are definitely a pair of impressive, leather heeled ankle boots. They are offered in a great variety of punky buckle boots, suede Western styles, vintage lace up booties, riding styles in metallics bright bold colours like red and purple but also look out for plain black, grey, brown or white.

Check our exclusive edit of ankle boots that you need to try this season!

I love this Versace embroidered leather jacket that Dua Lipa has. black leather is always going to be so badass but the cross factor in the jacket reminds me of the theme of the MET Gala:   fashion and Catholic imagination. photo credit: @versace on twitter  #look #fashion #dualipa #jacket

Summer items are flooding our Insta feeds and we're already making note of our faves. After a very successful run in street style snaps and Insta stories across the globe last spring, the straw basket bag is back for good. Fashion bloggers and influencers are trading faux fur and leather, for the lighter and more weather appropriate fashion accessory.

Quick history lesson: the wicker bag craze is a nod to the seventies style icon Jane Birkin. One of her staples was a chic wicker basket that she paired with her other seasonal faves like washed out bell-bottom pants, floral tea dresses, high-waisted denim shorts and striped tees.

Today’s fashion pack – including French model Jeanne Damas and blogger Camille Charriére – are also welcoming the trend. If you want to nail the look, pair your basket bag with a cool ruffled dress, sleek mules and a bold red lip.

After Amber Valletta made an impressive appearance sporting a thigh-high, shiny leather skirt paired with stilletos last week, the world took notice. Not because of it's novelty, leather and vinyl skirts have been trending more than kale in 2014, but more so as a tribute to the legacy of Yves Saint Laurent.

If you think about it a YSL wardrobe heavily depends on a quality short leather skirt sported with luxe knitwear mini crossbody handbags and sexy super high stilettos. And Amber Valetta wasn't alone in noticing this trend during the past month. Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny as well as models Jourdan Dunn and Winni Harlow went for the thigh-grazing skirt.

Not only are mini skirts trending from street style, Instagram feeds and the catwalks but they look amazing in Spring. Wear them with bare legs a structured jacket and flat ankle boots, or even with a light denim jacket and desinger trainer. Browse trhough our gallery for more inspiration and shop below all the best mini skirt styles patterned, in leather, vinyl, and denim !
